A thread to talk about your favorite dead gacha games

Remember the good times
Grieve over your EoS'd waifus
Discuss what the fuck went wrong

I'll start with Alchemy Stars. I enjoyed it for a quite a while but the writing was on the wall. The gameplay proved too simple to innovate. It got to a point where you didn't need to roll for the new characters because they didn't power creep old units and the old units could clear everything just fine.
They also went for broke with "Cloud Garden", a failed Animal Crossing style mode that cost a ton of money to develop and flopped so bad that they just ignored it after a couple of months

Vice was best girl

EN server mismanagement, merged KR players in (it's a JP game) + extreme powercreep after that and EOS'd eventually. JP is still alive but also a powercreep fest. Oh well, old Crash Fever was amazing and I miss it a lot. Game really took skills pre-2018 (launched 2015 on JP, early 2016 on NA). Could farm the most OP units in the game at the time just by playing.

I spent over 12 hours trying to clear Lucifer's quest on my day off school and I remember it like yesterday...sad! Thanks for coming to my blogpost

I had the CBT frame there but ultimately lost interest due to gameplay at some point. AS' had a really nice honeymoon phase for me, Migard my beloved

Alchemy Stars was a wonderful game, but I feel like a hypocrite for complaining that it's cancelled since I dropped it shortly before that was announced. I only found out when I went to return to it after it was dead. The Cloud Garden was alright but obviously cost a lot of money and didn't really do much. It's actually ironic since my main gacha GFL2 is doing the same thing right now, eschewing it's main X-COM gameplay for a 3D base mode.

Best girl was this one I commissioned a couple of artworks of, can't even remember her name now. Something ending in "ey".

A rare Chinese gacha with a good story. After playing many gacha games, I can say with certainty that this game has the most brutal gacha ever. Still, it's funny that I'm really lucky with this game.
The reason why I drop and (maybe) the game dying is because they make free stuff become paid.

Yeah I think it it wasn't for Tencent's profit expectations the game would've probably survived more.

I want to mention a whole bunch of games by Fuji&Gumi.

Phantom of Kill, Taga tame no Alchemist and Shinobi Nightmare.
While I can't say I enjoyed them a lot, these games deserved better.
F&G has a team of great artists, a banger soundtrack composer and their stories were at least serviceable.
A lot of people that created the base of each game would've found more success under different management and producers.
Every time there was a new F&G release, it repeated the same mistakes:
>Characters need tons of dupes to function properly (locked passives and even basic features like skills and ultimates)
>rapidly growing powercreep
>instead of expanding on what made their game unique, they always focused on the same formula "oneshots and minimum turn clears good, disregard everything else we had before"

Absolutely wasted potential.
Their next game is apparently going to be a card game with scrapped art assets from Tagatame.
I think they're done investing in soshage. They had their audience when the market was fresh, but now they don't stand a chance with the approach they used before.

>Fullbokko Heroes X (pictured)
Deeply loved this game. It was both the first mobile game that caught my interest, and it was the first EoS I experienced. I miss this game so much.
>Last Period
Loved this game and its anime, but it soured my interest when my account randomly got deleted or locked. Never learned how that happened or why.
>Alien Egg
This was a charming game that I wasted hours on. Never really got the hang of it, but the music was spectacular.
>Ookami Hime
I only got this because the apk I downloaded when emulating was mislabeled as Fullbokko Heroes. I don't really remember much besides a cute girl in a hoodie with a huge fucking backpack and a rolling log world that auto scrolled.
>Popup Story
An auto battler game where you quite literally did nothing except press confirmations and dress up the students. I remember the final boss before EoS was a game-wide boss where every player's team would whittle the boss down together. That shit was hype. I had the offline version at one point, but it was on an emulator that was shit (Nox), and I lost everything randomly.
>Blazing Odyssey
The only game similar to Fate:GO I played. I don't know what it was, but this game absolutely hooked me. It had a great mix of both male and female characters who were stupidly strong, which feels rare for a mobile game. Like, it was actually balanced. I didn't get very far in the more difficult stuff since I didn't really understand the game at the time, and I was playing up to the very last minute before EoS. Also had an offline version, but I lost it like I did with Popup Story.
>Bakuretsu Monster
A fighting game that was actually really fun. I can't find shit on it though, and I don't remember much about it. I remember I used this girl who could summon giant hamsters that hit the entire screen. Super fucking cheap, but it was fun to shit on that gay furry that looked like a white Lucario/Zoroark fusion.

Now I'm sad looking back. I miss all of these.

>Chain Chronicle (Global)
one of the first gachas I ever played that proved this genre had potential beyond P2W faggotry, still miss it to this day.
>Goddess Kiss
P2W mess but I liked that it had clothing damage for all the girls and their costumes. I swear I'm never gonna find another gacha that properly scratches THAT itch...
>Mobius Final Fantasy
Another game I miss dearly, but I'd say this one lived a reasonably long life and went comfortably into the night. Really felt like I was going on a journey back then. Miss WoL and Echo. Always thought a future act would have us venture beyond Palamecia to explore the consequnces of our actions in Act 1 and maybe even shine light on WoL's origins but that arc never came. Apparently there's a private server in the works called the "Blank Project."
>Disgaea RPG (Global)
I feel like this game is the reason we'll never get another 2d Disgaea again, as the 2d team is stuck working on this gacha. Still pissed that Global died before the big Asagi event could ever come (I had over 90K gems ready to try and pull ALLL those Asagis...). Anyways, Disgaea girls just hit right.
>Idola Phantasy Star Saga
Liked the Law/Chaos concept but felt like it pressured you to roll two copies of your favorite characters. Feels like the game's ultimate shortcoming was appearing at the tail end of PSO2's popularity, when EP5 had already destroyed the game's reputation. Didn't like the transition to 3d models in season 2 but wish I'd ripped that swimsuit Gene model when I had the chance
>N-Innocence (pictured)
Really liked this one's gameplay, in a way it reminded me of those old anime fighting games from back when Blazblue was still a thing. Shame it died so quickly, felt like the devs just ran off after the summer event and it became Asobimo's problem. still wonder what engine this game runs on; I kept a backup of the game's files but my usual Unity tools ain't doing shit

Tagatame was my favorite srpg gacha, no other gacha hit that spot for me anymore
Convallaria is arguably better gameplay-wise but the designs in that game are complete dogshit.

Master of Eternity, global EoSed right before we got a character released as playable with an affection story + lines that instantly turned her from the most hated character in the entire game to #1 most popular girl.
You might recognize the game from its cameo in Dave the Diver
>Discuss what the fuck went wrong
Unironically too generous. Every character in the game was free, no gacha for characters.
In theory you were supposed to gacha for mechs, but every mech in the game was randomly farmable, the girls had personal mechs but those weren't any better than generic mechs + were also randomly farmable. So the only point in gacha was an initial burst for new/casual players. Some of pve ranking stuff even punished you for using high rarity mechs.
There were skins, but all of them you could buy with regular gems. So once you had a few decent mechs farmed you could just save gems to buy all the skins instead of wasting them in gacha.

This is the mech strategy game right? I don't think there is anything wrong with it beside being incredibly generic

>Getting nostalgic for apps that werent able to make money with anime gambling.
Lol this generation is pretty pathetic. And there was a time people played real if not cut down version of real games or better yet original titles without all of this microtransaction crap.

Bro people can get nostalgic for literally anything. My mom gets nostalgic for discontinued brands of soap.I got nostalgic for bootleg wii games.Doesn't mean any of those,or "cut down" versions of games were any better.

For me, this retimo adventure had that sort of tile-by-tile movement and a really basic turn-based battle, like an attack or another healing or defensive skill, very cooldown-based too. As for waifus, latest update had that schoolgirl blue and red heterochromia and wielding a sniper rifle, and that was basic but real cool. just love the chibi design and not too demanding with its mtx, so sharing the only screencap I've got for it yep

>EP5 had already destroyed the game's reputation
It might've not gotten back close to it's peak but EP6 salvaged it for enough of the JP playerbase that they could've easily ride it out for a few more years if not for NGS.
