The bells aren't so bad if you chip away at it throughout the event. I use leftover energy after my usual farming. I go for the skill cards, good boy points, stamina, and gems first. Then I switch to the bells. You should still have plenty of time in the event to get anything else by the time you finish the bells

The meta in this game is minmaxxing your passive pull income, both silver & golden bells and then down the line, essence gain. Characters' strength are meaningless without high evo. Don't bother rolling on limited time banner unless you're willing to 5-starring the featured one.

Needing to 5 star is an exaggeration and mostly unnecessary. You can get away with 3 star at the bare minimum and it will let you use that character for most content.Of course the more stars the better, and higher starred characters will give you an easier time in endgame tower.
