the downfall of mobile videos games needs to be studied cuz why are mobile games now so brain rot slop and then it was way better and some are still around, but back then it was way more kid friendly. i think 2020-2023 was the big downfall

I think it goes something like
>Pre-Smartphones: Varied, some simple minigames/time-wasters, others games or franchises suited to the format ala the GB versions of Mario and Mega Man
>early Smartphones: Starts leaning towards time-wasters, but still a few dedicated games, even some console games ported over. People begin realizing you can add microtransactions to games.
>Late Smartphones: Somebody invents the gatcha system and mobile gaming is over forever.

Seems like Google promotes games with ads and mtx, they're probably the most profitable for them. And as long as devs do that much, they don't need to make decent games, because Google doesn't curate for shit. Meanwhile, most mobile gamers have zero taste, standards or impulse control, and even if better games are available for purchase, they won't buy them because they're not used to paying for mobile games.
Imagine if Valve worked that way: shovelware on Steam's frontpage, ads everywhere, good indies hard to find, major studios only dump their nickle-and-dime f2p there, everyone treats it like it's normal and nobody buys any normal games because who would pay for computer games. PC gaming would be in shambles.

In general, I agree. I have found some fun games on my own though. Dawcaster is my favorite. Monument Valley. The Last Game. Meteorfall series. 20 Minutes Till Dawn. However, for every 1 good game I have found, I have deleted 10 others. Usually because of the payment required to continue. I do not mind paying for a good game, but if your game is centered around spending money I am completely disinterested.
