Here's a question - we talked alot about humans being transformed into Pokemon in our world last thread, but how would humans who have transformed into Pokemon be treated in a Pokemon society that has late 20th century technology, as opposed to the more primitive classical or medieval level they seem to operate at in Mystery Dungeon? Would there be a strong central government tracking and formalizing the integration of these former humans, or are things more laissez faire than that? Is there formalized education or apprenticeships for them to pursue? Are explorer guilds still a thing? Does being in a place that is simultaneously familiar and alien (as Pokemon would build their cities to suit their needs, so expect more wild variance in architecture and even the sizes of buildings. Probably fewer cars because a lot of species don't need them) have a different psychological impact from a regular Mystery Dungeon experience, where just about everything is totally foreign? Been pondering what teched up Mystery Dungeon would look like lately, so I've been curious.

Previous thread's Lucario story: https://pastebin.com/dNfCG4sePlease join in and offer suggestions and ideas for story beats, characters, slice of life scenarios, etc. I'll write another snippet to continue tomorrow.>You had never been in a real fight.>Sure, a few scraps as a kid.>Insults, pushes, angry glares that felt world-ending back when school was the entire world. >The fast heartbeat, bristled hairs, and sweaty palms…>The world narrowing to just you and the mean kid…>Nothing compared to this.>You wished you thought about that before jumping.>You landed gracefully on all fours, unnoticed.>The trio continued their metallic meal.>Aggron towered over everything nearby like a steel fortress.>She ripped and sheared a truck apart with claws that tore metal like paper.>You did not want to get close.>You edged forward, paws raised in a non-threatening gesture.>To draw her attention, and hoping not to startle her, you let your aura pulse gently.>A soft blue glow enveloped your palms and faded away.>Three pairs of blue eyes focused on you.>Two were wide and petrified.>One was furious.>Aggron lumbered forward, putting her massive frame between you and her children.>You did not want this to come to blows.“Look, hey…”>Her growl rumbled like thunder, even this far away.“I don’t want to fight, okay? See?”>You raised your paws higher.>Aggron scowled and swiped her heavy arm in a wide arc.>An oddly human gesture.>Like shooing a fly away.>The universal sign for “get out of here.”>That raised your hopes.>Maybe she couldn’t talk, but perhaps she wasn’t completely feral.“You have to move, alright?”>She roared loud enough to make you wince.>”No. You move.” Was your interpretation.
>>58102471>Her little ones shuffled behind the wrecked truck, wobbling on unsteady legs.>They were so young they hadn’t mastered walking.>They stumbled multiple times. Their chins clanged into the ground each time they tripped.>You’d call them hatchlings if your gut wasn’t telling you they were human infants a week ago.“It’s not safe here.”>She stamped the ground, cracking the blacktop.“You’re scaring a lotta people, big girl.”>She dug her hands into the fractured parking lot.>”Lotta parents and kids over there.” You added, hoping to appeal to her motherhood.>“The police won’t stay back forever.”>She grunted and yanked the ground, hefting a chunk of asphalt above her head.>Loose dirt and rock speckled and dinged off her head and shoulders.>”Think of your children, alright?“>That set her off.>Her aura flared with anger, righteous fury, and confusion.>She was thinking of her children.>And she believed you were far too close to them.“C’mon...” You moaned, shifting to a defensive stance.
>>58102474>Hundreds of pounds of rock hurtled where you stood a second ago.>It slammed into a car door hard enough to dent it, and set off the car alarm. >The shrieking noise made you grimace, but you kept focus on the giant.>A car door hurled past you like a frisbee.>A second door skid across the parking lot like a stone on water.>Instead of ripples, a shower of sparks blew in all directions when it scrapped the ground.“Cut it out!” You yelled over her tearing the steering wheel out. “I’m trying to help!”>Dodging wasn’t hard, given your incredible agility, but it wasn’t safe.>A tire grazed your fur.>Far too close for comfort.>But keeping this far away wasn’t achieving anything.>Maybe you’d tire her out, but she may have stamina just as exceptional as yours. >What you wouldn’t give to throw an aura sphere.>Your palms barely glowed; it was difficult enough to make it appear when training. >You couldn’t count on it now.>Options were frightfully limited. >Close range felt suicidal.>You had to outthink her.
>>58100866This brushes up a question I have whenever there’s human level intelligence animals, or a human TF’d into an animal. What keeps them from progressing up the technology tree? Could they eventually develop a steam engine? Mining and smelting ore? A computer?
>>58102479Hmm. Maybe protag could feint one way and then juke the other way and close to get a few hits in during the Aggron's follow-through next time she hurls something. Then open the range again and rinse-repeat to wear her down.>>58102646I don't see anything in Mystery Dungeon that suggests the Pokemon in that setting CAN'T achieve higher levels of technology - it just seems like they haven't yet. I was inspired by both a terrible webcomic I read and The Slugma Powered Home to try my hand at an information age take on Mystery Dungeon - think ca. 1990. I've envisioned a temparate, coastal city with mostly low, squat buildings, many of which are quite old, with only a few skyscrapers. So sort of a seaside Paris complete with extensive underground catacombs that, in this case, hide secrets from a fallen human civilisation if you venture deep enough. I went through every Pokedex entry and determined that 661 out of the 898 non legendary/mythical/UB/paradox species could dwell in the inner city in significant numbers, and that most of the housing demand is for Pokemon on the smaller side. As such, I calculated that around 75% of the buildings would be around 2-2.6 meters per storey depending on application, another 19% would be 2.9-3.8m per storey (in line with IRL human buildings) and the remaining 6% would be 4.2-5.4m per storey (perhaps situated in their own enclave, like a reverse Little Rodentia from Zootopia). I can share more of the nitty-gritty details if you're interested
>>58102479We have to wear down her energy. Avoid hits while moving as little as possible. Try to bait her into overexerting herself. Only hit her when it's easy to remind her that we can. Her body is heavier, so we should have the advantage in a battle of endurance.
>>58102994She seems content to stay there and chew up some old Silverados. I don’t see how you would get her to move If it wasn’t for the fire, you would essentially have a bear sitting in a watermelon patch.
>>58102976That sounds impressive, yes please.
>>58100696>OOOOH!!! This is bad, this is BAD!!!!!
>>58102479HE'S BACK. I've got no ideas for what to do next. I still think our best bet is to make her follow us out of civilization. Maybe we chuck some car parts back at her to get her attention?>>58100866>a strong central government tracking and formalizing the integration of these former humansI guess that'd depend on how many of them there are. Might be an extension of the "classical" guild system, which often attracted the humans of the old days.Or maybe with advancements in science they've stopped believing in humans altogether.
>>58102646I've seen this topic broached in non-Pokemon stuff, but usually they have to make the main character a polymath to make it make sense. I know loosely how a lightbulb works (vacuum, electricity, filament) but if you asked me how to build any of those things I'd be stumped. It could be neat to have a human with knowledge of what could be possible work with Pokemon who know what's currently possible. So the human says "if you stick a filament into a vacuum tube and electrocute it it makes light" and then Pokemon Leonardo da Vinci has to figure out how to make a vacuum tube with available Pokemon abilities.
>>58103115Thanks anon. Okay, so in the first place, I envision their industrial revolution as being a slower, more drawn out process than ours due to the, "But we already have a Pokemon for that" factor. When you have electric and fire types to power machinery and flying types to transport goods it disincentives you from developing modern power and transport infrastructure. Not enough to prevent their eventual adoption, but enough to slow things down. Indeed, small scale transport still has a hard time competing with fast and teleportation-capable Pokemon, so their trucks and aircraft are behind where ours were in 1990 (I'm picturing anachronistic 60s-looking trucks, and their version of Concorde is brand new rather than already being 15 years old), while the large-scale bulk transport offered by rail and sea is on pace. A minor demographic echo of the industrial revolution is that fire types remain over-represented in blue collar industrial positions, while water types (who were employed as union busters in large numbers as ground and rock types would be too damaging to the factories) remain over-represented in law enforcement - when the city's inhabitants picture a sterotypical beat cop, they picture a Buizel. Architecturally, entire buildings wouldn't be formed after a Pokemon like in Rescue Team and Explorers, but buildings WOULD have aesthetic elements, facades, etc. modled after a relevant Pokemon.Due to the presence of species like Weezing and Garbodor, pollution is kept well in hand, with clean streets and waterways. Even the sewers (one of several places on the city to function like a mystery dungeon) are home to hardy Magikarp and Feebas, as well as a Milotic who fancies themselves the place's guardian, serving as the dungeon boss.A feature landmark of the city is the vertical airport, a skyscrapers with numerous large openings for flying types (especially Corviknight) laden with passengers and goods. Will post more if there's interest.
>>58103422I was actually writing something like that, with Magearna as the leader of a Techno Faction, wanting to bring a bit more civilization back to the Bronze Age Pokemon Dungeon world. After all she is the fusion of a princess and a pokemon, she came from the land of castles and steam engines. This civilization is too primitive for her.
>>58100696>your wifeOh right, my Wife. The Wife of Anon, which is me.Anon's Wife...What Wife?
>>58103599Huh. Great minds really do think alike. It wasn't actually me, but a friend who suggested a while back that Magearna would be found on the deepest levels of the catacombs, forlornly maintaining what rusting human artefacts she can, her sense of purpose lost like the Butler from The Fall: Unbound.I guess continuing on, then, another significant landmark would be a single earthscraper placed adjacent to the river, with flooded sections and tunnel sections to permit dedicated water-dwelling and underground-dwelling Pokemon to participate in inner city commerce. With burrowing Pokemon around, there's always a risk of sinkholes or damaged utility conduits, so certain ground types like Excadrill are extremely highly prized in infrastructure maintenance. There would also be something akin to an open pit mine or quarry near the city that serves as a preferable home for those who prefer to dwell underground permanently, particularly large ones like Ttar and Steelix. While the vertical airport would besituated near the CBD, airports for actual aircraft would be positioned well outside of the CBD - nothing like an LAX equivalent in this setting. More like Melbourne Airport if anything. Why? Well, remember Cactus 1549. ATC hearing a pilot declare "hit birds, we've lost thrust on both engines" hits different when the birds that just got blended by your aircraft pay taxes.I don't have a full layout for the typical Pokehouse mapped out yet, but given the anatomical variations, it seems to me that bean bags and doggy bed-style beds would be popular. If you're rich enough to be able to afford to pay many times what the average 'mon would pay for a high end appliance, you can contract a Rotom helper for your home.If you wanna hear them, I have some concepts for some smaller slice of life moments in the setting as well, a few of which a friend has actually drawn for me.

>>58106497Oh damn, we're going public. My first thought was that we would finally have to answer to family and friends. And our answers to the public would be a big, long string of "I'm not sure." Maybe us speaking up (and not getting shot or experimented on) would lead to other sentient ex-human types speaking up, if we're not the only one.
>>58106497I can just imagine everybody speaking at once after protag speaks. >>58108178>>58108215Yeah, considering you could get turned into something stupid like a Pineco, becoming your favourite is incredibly preferable. In PMD, all Pokemon can access the toolbox just fine regardless of their physical features, but for some (like the aforementioned Cryogonal and Dhelmise) it's rather difficult to envision how that would actually work. Do we consider mouth dexterity like what we saw in Friendship is Magic before the writers gave up and gave everypony velcro!hooves? Do we consider velcro!hooves? If not, is a hoof with claws like Venusaur good enough? Would wingfingers be good enough? Are pincers good enough? Are tentacles or vines good enough? It's a complicated question. >>58109593>>58109599>>58109602Wow, that is some BIG TIME social anxiety there. Is that because of the transformation, or something intrinsic to protag himself? If the latter, perhaps it's time we made him SLIGHTLY less of audience cipher and learned more about his past? I do love how seeing the aura of those he helped makes it all feel worth it for him. Maybe that'll even drive him to further heroics, no matter how much he tells himself he doesn't want the attention or that he's only doing it because it's the right thing to do. Having such a totally unfamiliar but incredibly vibrant sixth sense be overwhelming in the best way possible is definitely an idea that speaks to me with this 'mon - I did the same thing I did with my Lucario OC.The police chief of what is seemingly a small, quiet city (population of around 50,000, maybe?) being totally out of his depth when it comes to dealing with a literal miniature kaiju, to the point of being willing to defer to a blue talking dog and not try to detain him or call the feds on him or anything, whilst I'm not sure how realistic that'd be, definitely IS hilarious. Being an Aussie I'm kinda picturing Tom Croydon from Blue Heelers wearing a perpetual stunned mullet look throughout the whole situation. I wouldn't actually mind a cutaway to one of the younger officers who's a fan of the series having to attempt to give this guy a briefing on Pokemon with a straight face.Anyways, other obvious next steps are protag trawling his phone again to see what's being said about him and if there have been other incidents like with the Aggron. Once his leg heals he might also want to check in at the junkyard to see how she's getting on in her new home. I also like >>58109842 's ideas.
>>58109913I assumed the social anxiety was stemming from the giant cloud of emotions he had to experience, but reading back that wasn't necessarily it. At this point I don't mind giving him a past, he's more of a defined character in his own right now.
>>58109602Honestly we lucked out, if this was just a lone aggron or a male one, this would probably have been a fight to the death. And while small town cop seems to be in the I don't care life is weird just go with it. them reacting to a genuine danger like a gyrardos or a hoard of houndours would have probably ended in a fire fight, literally. So far it's them seeing Aura Puppy save the day, and watching as a mother gets moved away.Questions are going to start to fly, the biggest being HOW and WHY this Is all taking place.
>>58109599we have seen so far a tacit interest as the sightings grow more numerous, but I think a media fire storm is incoming. Especially if something big happens far outside Lucarios reach, like a say a large city far away with a rampaging Raikou or heaven forbid we see a military base get leveled by Rayquaza, after the military tries to shoot it down for being an unidentified flying object in their airspace. This is turning into a game of optics, to insure mankind accepts the surprise of the monsters, but hopefully doesn't panic to the big threats. One Lucario can only do do much damage control.
>>58110107Heh, well I mentioned the capeshit vibes. Clearly we just need to put together a justice league of the more intelligent Pokemon that have appeared. I doubt protag and Kat are the only ones. Definitely wondering what she's up to amid all this, incidentally.
>>58110135I wouldn't trust Kat with a rubber spoon. She's a creature of chaos and does what ever she wants. But if we are suggesting to the Author to start finding intelligent "human" minded pokemon. it might help with the eventual catastrophic encounter, or at least if things stay relatively quite to win the inevitable optics game to show people how to adapt. However, It might be a race against the clock before things start spiraling, media is GOING to find out, and report, the internet is going to explode with who what why wheres and hows, and powerful intelligences firms are going to want to either contain, or exploit.
>>58110146I was semi-joking, but in fairness I'm sure Kat could learn. As to the rest, I think most of the broad strokes options are on the table a this point. Just a matter of which writefag decides to grace us with.
>>58110107I didn’t think about it at the time, but Kat is a Legendary. So the way more serious Legendaries are in play. Imagine waking up as Kyogre
Maybe a counterpoint to the popular opinion but I’d be fine if the story stays smaller and focused on Anon’s personal life and trying to adjust. A personal story about discovery through this change is more compelling to me than creating the Pokémon Avengers. Handwaving the societal upheaval through a time skip is perfectly valid if it means we don’t have to deal with the “what are the new tax policies?” style questions.
>>58110633I actually do like the smaller personal stuff the best, but it just didn't seem practical to keep focusing entirely on that, given what's happening in the world around protag.
>>58110668Yes, but it’s the author’s work. The world they create is beholden to them, not the other way around. If “that’s the way the story would go” then the writer has the power to change the story.
>>58110633I also like it as a character piece, I just think adding a few extra characters for him to bounce off of might enhance that.
What in the name of Christ is this
>>58111148That’s actually a really good point I don’t think I considered.
>>58111176Writefag is penning excellent stuff for us. What's it look like?
>>58109143Sweet. Don't think I could've hoped for better.
>>58110633Yeah, we've done our part, but I think it would be best to try to fall out of the public spotlight as more pokemon show up. That's easier said than done though, because if another pokemon shows up and causes trouble here, we're the only one who can deal with it right now.

https://rentry.org/HerdingCatsDamn writing takes a long time. Anyway I'm joining the party. This is a story about a guy, his girlfriend's cats, and the housesitting job from hell. Let me know what you think. The next section is probably going to be shorter, I just felt like I had a lot to set up here at the beginning.
>>58112877Let's not
>>58112282Ooh, that's one of my favourite Lucario pics. Good taste.>>58112304For all the japing about him being a schizo, protag is taking a very collected Tex Talks Battletech-like approach to his circumstances here. "Yeah... I'm NOT all there upstairs... and that's okay." I like it. For those of us who have fantasies about being transformed into Pokemon, protag's generalised sense here that the positives outweigh the negatives feels very relatable.
>>58112322The genesis of my OC is honestly pretty cringe considering it was a friend and I lewd roleplaying our way through Super Mystery Dungeon's story together. Basically though, I pictured the aura sense of a Riolu as muted, like looking at an image in greyscale. So when Rio (I know, I know) suddenly evolved for the first time in SMD's story and saw his partner Braze, the love of his life and now also fully evolved, giving off the most brilliant blue (for her insatiable curiosity) and golden (for her boundless, unshakable adventurousness) shine, standing in stark contrast to the aura of rather mean bastard Entei, it was a rapturous, almost religious experience for him.Without the baggage of a human life he actually remembers like your protag has, Rio's gone on to fully embrace Pokemonness and all it entails. He's worked with human trainers and has a very different perspective on combat (which he relishes, but hates having to kill) and societal structure compared with the people in most universes Rio and Braze now visit (they became multiversal travellers after the events of SMD). At the same time, though, he's not the stereotypical "meditate under a waterfall" Lucario either. Gentle, cheery, and optimistic, Rio is very live-and-let-live and tends towards adorkability (an awkward chuckle and a neckrub is his signature move, moreso than Aura Sphere) so long as you don't tug on his justice switch too hard. He's good at cutting through BS, though, and will often think snarky thoughts, albeit usually doesn't vocalise them. He mostly trains with parkour rather than martial arts, and is known for randomly remembering music from the human world and bursting out into song, only to instantly forget the track again afterwards. He's a good bean who doesn't hesitate in the moment, but will often question his actions after the fact. Naturally, being from a lewd RP originally, he's also extremely sexually open and giving. Usually subby, but flexible to his partner's needs
Same anon as >>58113112 and >>58113144 , in the interests of full disclosure.>>58112877>>58113084I'd be down for this, but I'm sure I'm very much in the minority.>>58112941Your protag's reaction to realizing he's a cat down seems weirdly understated, but the sheer misery of the circumstance he's found himself is commendably palpable, so kudos for that.

Definitely takes that whole optics battle thing far out of our hands. All we can do now is try to make things as good as we can in our own little neck of the woods, as >>58112322 alluded to. It's relieving that most 'mons seem relatively non-hostile, but air travel and the power grid are definitely going to have some problems as more flying and electric types appear, I think. Don't forget that the oceans are gonna be quietly transforming, unseen by most, as well. If there are any /k/fags around, I'd love a vignette of an attack sub playing cat and mouse with Kyogre. Bonus points if one or more crewmembers abruptly transforms while they're at it.>>58116090As I mentioned, I calculated that 661 out of 898 non-LMUBP species could dwell in a city's CBD fairly comfortably, and most of the remainder are limited by environmental requirements moreso than their temperament. Add to that how many Legs and Myths prefer to stay as far away from people as possible, or exist in a dormant state until deliberately awakened, and it might not be quite as bad as you'd think. Salamence and Hydreigon will definitely be an issue if they pop up, since they're ultra-aggressive and their territory pretty much comprises an entire country's worth of airspace, but on the scale of the entire US, an occasional fire type induced fire or self-destruct induced unintentional terrorist attack is more tragic inconvenience tier than mass hysteria tier. Ukraine's had worse every single day for several years now.>>58116138>>58116145>>58116302Maybe rather than the justice league, protag can instead form a support group to help transformed humans in his local area adjust to their new normal.
Honestly I think this situation is slowly growing more, dangerous each day the fact kat can understand human speech, means it was either recently or probably when it was she was baby? Not sure but she was confused, when our guy as asked if she was human. Either leading that, or she was just recently turned into a pokemon, but how long ago was that? Idk but seems she is just not caring how she might cause more problems right, now But for right now we have problems with concerning, with the fact people turned into pokemon. And how that might affect their familes and friends Concerning our guy it seems this is slowly taking a toll on him, physically and a little bit mentally. With the mentioning of him as a riolu seems strange, is his memories becoming slowly overwritten. Or confused with something else. it just eludes me that he refers his younger self as a riolu, when he remembers doing stuff as a kid.

Enjoyable stories throughout the thread. Good work all. It's been a great ride.Right now the fiction has a "superhero" air to it, which is fine, but it doesn't quite tap into the difficulties of adapting to a sudden and new Pokemon body. So far, the Pokemon used fit into human society easily. Lucario and Zoroark are human sized andshaped. They're easily able to use the tools humans require and navigate human spaces, but these Pokemon are by and large the exception. Most quadrupedal Pokemon would have difficulties opening using almost every human device, for example. For most humans-turned-Pokemon, it feels though even a simple life would become a huge challenge to overcome. How will they earn money? How will they eat? Are there humans willing to assist these new Pokemon? Can they keep their old job? Their home? Is this a subject we would be interested in discussing?

I originally had Lucario musing about how easy it would be to track him down and tear his head off. And how maybe he had a moral obligation to do so. He didn't act on them, but they felt way too dark so I deleted them. Yeah, that was the idea. Auditory illusion/hallucination because his vocal cords can't produce perfect human speech.>>58125241It's humbling meeting someone who genuinely runs laps around you when it comes to smarts. One engineer I met had laser-sharp eye contact in conversation. Complete opposite of the one that I based this zoro's mannerisms off. Never once looked away when talking with you. 100% eye contact with little other body language. Crazy smart and pleasant enough. But the guy hyper-focused on whatever he was working on or whoever he was talking with.
>>58126185>I didn't want to hard spell it out, but if you didn't understand it that's probably on me for the way I wrote it.I think the confusion arises because he was hanging out at the junkyard with the specific intention of having protag find him, and yet is then shit-scared at being found out, despite initially seeming happy to've been found out. Being intimidated because the other guy invalidates your Pokemon form's advantage is one thing, but it seems a bit of a leap from that to "please don't kill me!" and "this body says you are demonic". That's raw, primal fear, whereas "oh crap, this guy hard-counters my illusions" sounds more like mere strategic calculation.>I originally had Lucario musing about how easy it would be to track him down and tear his head off. And how maybe he had a moral obligation to do so. He didn't act on them, but they felt way too darkI'm not opposed to this on principle (intrusive thoughts happen), but it definitely would've muddied the issue further, making it REALLY seem like it's a type interaction thing. Lucario even has Justified as a hidden ability. Unless you meant it as an interaction between these two species specifically, or at best between aura sensing Pokemon and illusion casting Pokemon, but if so that's still confusing because there's no canon precedent I know of for Lucario and Zoroark having a Zangoose and Seviper-like relationship.Either way, I'd still be interested in seeing protag try to help Mr. Engineer break through that irrational, primal response. If you're wondering why I want him to ask to check out Mr. Engineer's home, it's because 1: It keeps the guy engaged with protag a little longer and 2: It's possible prior to their transformation the son wrote a diary entry or was looking something up on his computer or something like that that may give a clue to his current location. Figure it's a worth a shot before protag's forced to resort to patrolling the city randomly looking for a Zorua aura, anyway.

Of course, the usual /vp/oreon who sometimes fantasies about it would still keep most of their sanity, but if you are just some random person who doesn't know about the franchise, it would be positively terrifying and maddening at the same time, losing your humanity like that to turn into a creature barely known to you. Hopefully they don't blame the guy who kept coming in for work despite getting recently transformed. Hey, don't blame me, they said it wasn't contagious in a normal sense!
>>58126185>For better or worse, I deleted the snippets about Lucario's feelings. I originally had Lucario musing about how easy it would be to track him down and tear his head off. And how maybe he had a moral obligation to do so. He didn't act on them, but they felt way too dark so I deleted them.If you're worried about that you could always dial it back. Less "a part of me wanted to go Mortal Kombat on his ass" and more "a part of me didn't want to trust anything he said, a part of me tensed up when he moved, a part of me was convinced this was all an act.">Yeah, that was the idea. Auditory illusion/hallucination because his vocal cords can't produce perfect human speech.Alright, that's pretty cool. >>58127406>Think I'll rewrite that snippet later. If you're doing a rewrite I'll say I liked the shirt and the buttoning/unbuttoning as a nervous tic. Made him feel like he was clinging to whatever humanity is left. If you're looking to try to expand on that in a way that feels unique to Zorks, maybe when he swaps from the junkyard manager to his Zork body he could instead try to switch his disguise to something that looked like himself, but that keeps fizzling out because there's a disconnect between what the human brain and the Zork brain think of as "myself."
>>58128052>if it took place in the ruins of what was once a modern city centuries after said apocalypse.I've been worldbuilding something tangentially related - a Pokemon city with ca. 1990 technology that is unknowingly built on top of the deeply buried ruins of long-forgotten human civilization. I wrote a few posts about it earlier in the thread. I'd love to run a tabletop campaign set in this city (probably using Explorers of Fate), but my weakness as always is overarching story and plot ideas.>>58128078>that spoilerActually genius
>>58128162>I've been worldbuilding something tangentially related - a Pokemon city with ca. 1990 technology that is unknowingly built on top of the deeply buried ruins of long-forgotten human civilization.Sounds like a fun setting to write about. I really wish I had more time to write out those sort of worldbuilding ideas I had over the years, for me, the hardest part seems to be writing all of those ideas out in its entirety. Doesn't help either how busy I usually am with IRL stuff, but who knows, perhaps some day I will continue on writing from all the idea notes I scrabbled down over the years.
>>58128162>>58128078>spoilerOkay, that makes a lot more sense. Also, why wouldn’t a Zoroark be able to vocalize if a Lucario can?

Unbothered. Moisturized. Happy. In his lane. Focused. Flourishing.>The sight of the Snorlax made you feel conflicted. You felt annoyed by the fact that you weren't able to take your car to work, but on the other hand, you wanted it to stay for some reason unknown to you.>Maybe it was nostalgia you didn't know>What you did know was that you needed to get to the station>You considered getting yourself some rideshare but wanted to check if maybe your friend could drive you there>Fortunately for you, he was not only up but ready to go.>He'd be at your house in 30 minutes, as he was running errands in the morning.>Plenty of time for you to get ready, eat breakfast, and drink some coffee while watching the morning news.>The morning news didn't add much to the situation, mostly things that would be described as trivia at best.>The only thing of note was some safety guidelines made by government "experts," which could be summarized as "do not approach the pokemon and call 911".>Either way, it meant overtime.>As you were finishing eating your eggs and bacon, your phone buzzed.>You picked it up.>"What on God's green earth is that thing in your driveway?" asked your friend in a confused tone.>"A Snorlax", you answered with confidence while finishing the last bite of your breakfast.
>>58128930>You closed your door behind you as you left the house.>Your friend parked his car on the opposite side of the road due to the fear of the 'lax.>There was no traffic in these early hours, so you just crossed the road with a slower gait>You shook hands and then took a look at his car.>You were still in amazement that that piece of junk managed to pass vehicle inspection.>Either way, you thanked him for showing up.>"No problem, my sleep schedule is gone either way," he replied. "Guess that's the benefit of doing freelance work".>He pointed at the Snorlax with his finger and said, "When I was driving here, I saw one of those blocking 2 lanes on the opposite side of the highway".>"Were there any police or firefighters trying to move it?" you asked.>"No. Either nobody reported it yet, or it just showed up on the road moments before I drove past it." he answered with a somewhat disappointed tone.>Curious about the Snorlax, your friend asked, "How long has that one been blocking your driveway anyway?". >"Today it would be the second, possibly the third day. I noticed it yesterday, but it might have been there one day earlier, and I just didn't notice it because I was beyond tired after returning from work and having to deal with a miniature Godzilla and her kids destroying the city.">You assumed, he saw the aftermath of the event on TV or the Internet, maybe even drove past it at some point. >Either way, your answer seemed to have quenched his curiosity, and he didn't want to dig into the subject anymore (at least for now).>Instead he gestured for you to get into the car.>The drive was relatively uneventful as you spent your time chatting about some more normal, non-pokemon related subjects.

>>58124689I have rewritten that Zoroark snippet. I much prefer this one. Pastebin has been updated to reflect the change.>The trickster struck out his chest, mimicking your own stance.>”How was it?” Zoroark asked, staring ahead.>The vulpine pokémon sounded distinctly masculine.>”Still getting used to everything.” He added.>As soon as you looked back at his cerulean eyes, he stared at the ground.“How was the… disguise? You got me.” You admitted, smiling.>You would have been tricked if you were human. No denying that.>Then again, a month ago you would’ve laughed if someone told you zoroark were real. >The zoroark let out a long breath he’d been holding.
>>58130200>”Fantastic! Just, j-just Fantastic” He said, twirling a lock of his long, red and black-tipped hair.>He spun it around in circles with his hand.>The illusion flickered and disappeared as he got his breath back.>”G-Gimme a sec, okay?” He asked, holding up a claw.>”Way harder than it looks to...”>He gestured where the fakes used to be. >”You know.” >Zoroark gasped for air like he was midway through a marathon. “I bet.” >It wasn’t too different from your own practicing. >Incorporating aura into punches and kicks exhausted you.“What are you doing here? Not exactly safe.” “Aggron are real territorial, you know.”“And I don’t think to police would-“>”Waiting. For you.” Zoroark said, handwaving your other concerns away.>…“What? Why?” You asked.>…>Zoroark’s theatric demeanor tapered away.>”Ho’kayokayokayokayokay….”>Still, he chose not to look you in the eyes.>Whatever it was ate at his pride.>It was deathly silent, aside from the dull bonking aron heads on the other side of the junkyard.>”I need you, okay? I need your help.”>You could hear Zoroark’s heart pounding.>He sounded on the verge of a mental breakdown.>The crack in his voice was unmistakable.>Letting go of his hair, he went to buttoning, and unbuttoning, his dress shirt.>”Figured you’d swing by here, okay? Keep tabs on ‘em. Saw you fight whatever it was.”>He gestured toward the other side of the junkyard.>”That or, you know, I’d get your attention somehow.” >Briefly smiling, he snapped his claws.>A small blue firework flew just above his hair. >The cerulean flares bursting into the head of a lucario and fluttered away.>A Lucario signal? >You smirked at the thought.>Glad you ran into him here. >”I, uh…”>He made eye contact with you.>”My kid’s gone missing, okay?”>Oh. “Jeez…” >”It’s been days and, God, I have searched high and low and…” “Jeez, I’m sorry, man.” You added, for what little good it did.
>>58130213>Zoroark rubbed his temples, momentarily stopping the buttoning and unbuttoning.“Did he change too?”>He waved his arms for emphasis.>”It doesn’t make sense.”>”This isn’t rational, okay!?”>He paused, muttering to himself while again looking anywhere but at you.“Us being pokémon? No, it doesn’t make sense.”>Zoroark went back to his shirt.>”He’s better’n me. Better at pretending, okay?” >”H-He looks like me but smaller, and he’s got a li’l tuft of a tail now.”>”Zorua, you see, you know…”>”You know?” He asked, unsure if you knew what his son would look like.“Same colors as you, but on four legs, yeah?” You asked back.>The kitsune nodded furiously. >”Aw, thank Christ… Did you play the games?”>You nodded.“You?”>”Never. Simulators was all I touched. Never much of a game guy.”>”Harry did though…” Zoroark trailed off.>Zoroark shook his head. His long, red mane slowly followed suit.“When did it happen to you?”>”29th. Same day it happened to Harry.”>”Just… Woke up like this.” Zoroark stated, looking at his claws.“27th for me. Same deal. Happened while I slept.”>You really were one of the first.>Maybe the first.>You thought a moment, and spoke again.“Tell the police?”>Zoroark raised an eyebrow and glared at you.>”Really?”>”C’mon, hell was I supposed to tell them?”“Point taken.” You acquiesced, holding your paws up. >Zoroark rubbed his frustrated brow. >”Doesn’t make a lick of sense…” “I’m with you there.” >”No, no, it’s...”>”I’m still me, okay?”>”I remembered my job, I know my formulas, I can still design blueprints…”>In the blink of an eye, he was human again.>He held a toolbox, wore the same button-up shirt plastered with the company’s logo, and had a hard hat atop his head.>His face was… blurry.>Without thinking you cringed and backed away involuntarily. >You weren’t sure if he knew how inhuman the face was.
>>58130229>”Harry, just… couldn’t talk okay anymore…” Zoroark struggled to say. >The illusion melted like wax. >How common was this, you wondered.>You prayed this wasn’t happening everywhere. >At least that brionne had her family looking out for her.>”Just right outta sight. Poof!”>He sniffed the building mucus back.>”I read you can see life auras.”>”That true? Got some magic like me?”>”C-Can…?”>”Will you help?” Zoroark asked, on the verge of both tears and begging.>He clenched his eyes tight and grimaced. >Zoroark smoothed his dress shirt, flattening the creases and contours made by his fur beneath.>If that was an act, he would’ve earned an Oscar. >You put a paw forward.>Thankfully, you didn’t get electrocuted this time. >>58128078Nice idea. >>58130295>His face was… blurry.>Without thinking you cringed and backed away involuntarily. >You weren’t sure if he knew how inhuman the face was. That sounds like A grade Uncanny Valley right there, which is a neurological response to a human face looking wrong that only another human would get, because it's meant to be a defensive measure for "This thing is like me, but something is horribly wrong". Some shit with neanderthals hundreds of thousands of years ago or something probably.Meaning, there's more human left in this Lucario than he probably even realises in the moment.Good shit writer anon, been the first time in a LONG time I've been reading through someone else's fiction excitedly and wasn't cringing myself with the stylisation (or typically lack thereof) of the choice for wording forcing my way through.
>>58130295No offense but this one was miles better. It feels much tighter. You can explore into the type difference stuff later but the dysphoria of being able to illusion yourself into your old form, but also knowing you’ll never truly be human again and having foreign thoughts intruding in must be terrible. Piling the a missing child on top would be pure agony. I wonder if he’s a single dad. If the kid is young enough, he might just be winning the best Hide and Seek game of his life. Or maybe he’s acting like he’s living inside the game.I wonder if the engineer has been taking a methodical/scientific approach to developing his illusion skills. Maybe “working from home” while developing them. Something like>cool! I can just come up with exactly what’s in my mind without CAD or drafting and show it to people exactly like how I imagine itBased on the mini-fireworks display and muddied face, it might be more dependent on emotion than he thinks. As an engineer, the bit about clinging onto the book knowledge as representative of his humanity was really meaningful. When I think about the idea of getting TF’d, that’s where my mind always goes.
>>58130714Glad you're enjoying it.Read enough cringe and you get better at avoiding most of it when getting creative.>>58130901>No offense but this one was miles better.None taken. I feel the same way.Writing, painting, CAD, doesn't matter what I'm working on. Sometimes a creative thing doesn't come together, if at first or at all. Nothing wrong with killing your work and taking another swing.
>>58130295I also liked this a lot better. The mini fireworks display is adorable.
>>58129578I guess the logical next step would be for police bro to have to deal with weird but ultimately banal and not immediately life threatening situations related to Pokemon.>>58130295Credit where it's due, this is an out of sight improvement. I notice protag hasn't asked Mr. Engineer his name in the re-write. Perhaps this time it could get an opportunity to finally give protag a name as well? Just a thought.>>58130714I should probably go ahead with writing something myself purely so I can get you to gauge wether it's cringe or not.>>58130901Pokemon are deeply emotional beings and their powers are heavily impacted by that emotion, it's true. What's nice though is it's not as irrational or selective as it is in humans. They tend to feel the emotional spectrum more fully and aren't as prone to repression, masking, or unhealthy coping mechanisms as we are.
>>58129873They would've done, yeah, although I don't plan to lean TOO heavily into the analogue nostalgia since it's a little overdone. In any event, I figure there would likely have to be several broad categories of controller designs (and the same thing with TV remotes and the like) to account for different body plans. Indeed all sorts of manufacturers would produce their products in a variety of shapes and sizes to meet the needs of a society where "one size fits all" is not merely dubious as it is in real life, but utterly impossible. I imagine some furniture packs even being cleverly designed to be able to be assembled either as one large piece or two or more smaller equivalent pieces.
I was think of giving protag the name Brandon or James , and the dad of the zorua. David or Jacob something simple like that.

>>58130295”Hey, Henry?”>”Like I said, call me Hal, okay?” The zoroark reminded you. ”Everyone at the plant does.”“Right, sorry, Hal.” You answered.“I can see you again.”>His invisibility wasn’t perfect.>Looking hard enough, you could see something in the light wasn’t quite right.>Most people would write it off as a mirage.>It reminded you of seeing fake water on hot road.>That was when he wasn’t tired.>Now you could faintly see the outline of the dark-type.>Light bent at wrong angles and half-shadows appeared where his invisibility should have erased them.>He was lucky you were in the alley. >Hal scurried to the darkest alcove and relaxed his concentration. >The nearby discolored, well-worn dumpster kept him hidden, but sweetened the air with a pungent foulness.>You wondered if his sense of smell was heightened like yours.>In that moment, you could have done without it.>He was supremely uncomfortable.>Hal gulped air like a drowning man and played with his shirt buttons again.>Part of his discomfort was no doubt the extreme effort it took to maintain the cloak.“Hey, you made it further this time.” You congratulated.>The fox said nothing, remaining doubled over in exhaustion. >You kept watch while he recuperated.>Foot traffic was light on the sidewalks. You didn’t expect anyone to walk through.>There was an old and scuffed metal door nearby.>A backdoor to some antiques shop.>Perhaps that raised his anxiety. “Hey, nobody’s behind that door.” You assured him, sensing nobody on the other side.“Cashier’s bored and at the front register. You’re good.”>Hal gave you a thumbs up.>Oh, he did have thumbs, you realized.>Didn’t look like it back at the junkyard. >Man, that’s convenient.>You waggled your “thumbs”. >Wasn’t the best term for them.>Looked the same as the other two digits on your paw-hand, just with a little extra wiggle-room.>And that was a godsend.>Made grabbing most things possible with one paw.
>>58139937“Much further?” You asked, noticing Hal no longer panted. >”Four blocks. Maybe five?” Hal whispered. “We keep going that way, okay?”>”You ready?” He asked, eager to move.>You weren’t.>You wanted to talk more.>But you would have been blind to not notice how little Hal wanted to speak.>A stark contrast from the junkyard. >He would have continued talking your ear off about light refraction and dispersion had you let him.>You got close to the red-haired kitsune and exhaled.>Hal hid you both from view.>His cloak may have worked on your normal vision, but that didn’t mask the aura in every living creature. >You stayed close, using aura-sight to keep pace and keep track.>Unlike your escapades these past weeks, Hal kept to the ground.>He was speedy, but you ran alongside without difficulty. >Concentrating on keeping you both obscured took focus.>It was more tiring than the exercise, by far. >His stamina, like yours, was leagues better than when you were human.>Even with his newfound athleticism, you’d bet on beating him if you had to race.>And a fight.>Those zoroark biceps were skinny.>Down a hill and beneath the acorn trees you jogged.>With deft footwork, Hal avoided every fallen nut.>He ducked beneath any leaves in the way.>And his paws avoided the chalk hopscotch path marked on the ground.>Not a thing was out of place as he passed by.>You wish you could say the same.>Worst case scenario, people would think an odd breeze brushed all that debris down the sidewalk.>You entered a high-end residential neighborhood. >The dens here were much nicer than yours.>Uh, houses. >Houses. You corrected your thoughts again.>”Nice houses…” You murmured.>Hal’s panic was instantly visible in your unsight. >It seeped out like a dull, gray ink being smeared across paper.>He looked back at you for a moment, worried you’d give his position away.>You never drove here as a human before.
>>58139945>The view was far nicer from ground level compared to the rooftops. >If you could afford to live here, you would.>Yards looked immaculate, paint was all fresh, roofs looked new, and decorations were tasteful. >Traffic was light too.>A lovely white sports car was the only vehicle that passed you.>Suddenly, Zoroark veered hard right, onto a lawn.>You almost ran past, and quickly corrected yourself.>Vaulting the wooden fence, you followed Hal into the backyard of a beautiful two-story house.>All the blinds were drawn.>A sprinkler moistened the grass. >As the stream swung around, it noisily splattered the slide and swing of a wooden playset.>Hal slowed down near the back door, huffing and puffing but maintaining the facade.>He leaned against the house with one hand, and buried his other deep into his hair. >Ten seconds of rummaging later, he pulled out a wallet and a keyring.
>>58139950>With some effort, the Zoroark nudged the key in and opened the door.>His invisibility spell dropped the second the door slammed shut.>Wow, even the mudroom looked nice.>The natural light was dimmed by curtains, but it was a spacious place to hang up coats and take off footwear.>The rug beneath was coarse, but pleasant on your paw pads.>Two filthy pairs of boy’s shoes, stained heavily with grass and dirt, rested on a shoe rack.>Next to them were an adult’s dress shoes and some steel-toed work boots.>A hardhat with a neon vest was draped beside it.>Hal plopped on a bench, getting his breath back.>He twirled his housekeys in a vibrant red claw.“Can’t believe you carried that stuff in your hair.” You chuckled. “What if it jingles?”>”Don’t when it’s deep.” Hal puffed between breaths.>”Gotta keep ‘em someplace.”“Uh, yeah…”>Well, you didn’t have a huge mane. >People stored things in weirder places.>And you certainly hadn’t heard them make noise.>Who were you to judge?>Settling down, Hal looked up and down your lucario body.>”Huh…” The zoroark thought aloud.>”Where you keep yours?”>You scratched the back of an ear.“I, uh… Leave my window unlocked.”>Never before had you received such a look of disappointment.>>58137837>>58137912>>58139114Keep it up, policeman!>>58137134>ideally i'm tf'd into maractus like my wifeInteresting choice>>58135459>>58135514Gotta bless with a little Lycanroc green, Anon. You keep talking about it!Best thread I've been part of in ages. Love your comments.
>>58139975Sorry anon, I wish I could write up something. I’m good with ideas but just can’t string them together for more than a few lines. I’m glad I can inspire others!>>58139670Interesting. Good thing the boys in blue got to her before our resident blue dog.

>>58139114Seems the Salazzle hasn't been working on developing her Pokemon abilities as much as protag and Hal have if she's still clumsy just moving around.>Take her to the station?Sometimes, though, they tell me to bring the Pokemon to the police station and I'm like, "No. There's Feds in the station.""Yeah Feds make a nuisance of themselves at the station...">like she was forcing herself to drink it.Now this is interesting. Is she desperately trying to stay awake for some reason, or is this an attempt to cling to her humanity by maintaining her former self's coffee habit? Your writing was pretty shaky at first, but I reckon it's starting to come into its own.>>58139945So Mr. Engineer... or Hal, rather... has less raw power but more grace than protag. It'd be fun to see him defend protag from something protag is weak to one of these days.>>58139950This is sounding like a good place for a humans-come-Pokemon support group to meet and plan their activities from, like a slightly nerdy Batcave sponsored by Texas Instruments. Maybe protag and police bro's stories will intersect eventually and we can also add Salazzle to the squad. Her pheromones are an issue, but she may be able to learn to control them and doesn't sound like the type to use them maliciously. Plus protag and Hal aren't even in the same egg groups as her.Ha. Hairventory. That's great. Bros should consider investing in shoulder bags. Closest thing you'll get to MD's treasure bags.>>58139975>The rug beneath was coarse, but pleasant on your paw pads. There's me being jealous of protag's beans again.Hmm. Only seem to be Harry and Hal's shoes here. Single dad? That might explain why he actually has money...>Never before had you received such a look of disappointment.Heheh. The relationship between protag and his rich autismo friend (and perhaps autismo friend's kid) feels like it could have the potential to become the emotional heart of this story. They've got great chemistry already.
>>58103709>>58137860Alright, so here's the first pic that friend drew for me. I mentioned beanbags for the home, but for formal settings, like the parliament, I came up with the idea of padded podiums large enough for big quadrupedal Pokemon to get comfortable on, with an adjustable desk that bipeds can sit at in the normal way. Probably the podium would have to be a bit higher off the ground than he drew it, but that's why the ramp is there in any case - to let small Pokemon up.This particular Yanmega politician is buzzing angrily about not having been informed of a critical development and instead first hearing about it in the news. He's wearing a suit and tie because it's funny, but by and large clothing would work the same way as in Friendship is Magic - considered as an optional luxury in most settings and at best recommended rather than mandated in formal settings.I have a couple more pictures to post, but other small bits of world-building I came up with include:- Chimecho like to hang from flagpoles and banners in the city, particularly "welcome to the city" signs, where they'd double as greeters. - Actually stole this one from Tumblr (I know, I know) - dangerous workplaces often have an Absol in charge of safety. OH&S or compliance is a common vocation for them, as across the city their danger sense is saving lives every single day. I know technically it's supposed to be natural disasters, but OH&S Absol was too much fun not to include, so I decided it was okay to fudge a little.- The one good idea that webcomic I mentioned had was that Psychic and Dark types would form the two strongest factions in politics. The former are highly intelligent and naturally manipulative, while the latter are the hard counter to that. There is tension on both sides, however, as Dark types are also a frequent sight in the city's underworld, while Psychics dominate white collar crime. Malamar are basically natural super villains and most heartily embrace that fact.
>>58141127It sounds like the Malamar are basically this settings’s Vogons.Anyway, I’m voting Dark party every year. Goddam psychic types thinking they have the right to intrude in the privacy of people’s minds but won’t reveal what’s been going on with Espeon’s Island!

>>58139950It seems like the engineer gained a grasp of his Zoroark powers fairly quickly. Did he consciously, for example, decide to hide his keys and wallet in his mane or was it an instinct from his new Zoroark self?
>>58141759>sounds like the Malamar are basically this settings’s Vogons. No need to worry, the city definitely has a Palafin or two protecting it from such threats.Speaking of entertainment clichés, picrel contains an example of a popular science fiction IP in the city. While I was originally envisioning a much larger spacecraft with a number of gunports that would each have a dynamaxed Pokemon in them, my drawfag friend spectacularly misinterpreted me and accidentally came up with something I liked way better. The ships are small, one-seater affairs instead and they fight via the pilot dynamaxing and standing on the outside of their ship to do Pokemon battle with the dyamaxed pilot of the opposing ship. This particular Toxtricity is clearing himself a path through an asteroid field, to the immense dismay of the locals.Slightly expanding on that underworld thing I mentioned, I had an idea for a mock-up game menu for this setting done up in that old diorama-style you see in a lot of 90s gams (where you're clicking on parts of an image to select menu options, rather than a list of labeled buttons). In a back alley chopshop, a Weavile with a spiked collar and bracelets leans against a graffiti-covered wall, tilting his head and smirking at you when clicked. They hand out low level street gangster-type missions. In the back of the place, a Tinkaton at a work bench hammers on car parts, looking at you quizzically when clicked. They sell you stuff to improve your vehicle (private cars exist, though are not nearly as prevalent in this Pokemon city as they are in an equivalent human city). Off to the side, a Toxtricity plays his chest in place of a boom box, throwing up the horns when clicked. They'll randomize the music for 1P. Finally, in the middle is a Purrloin doing welding work on a car, lifting their welding mask and looking annoyed at the interruption when clicked. They give a lot of lore about the place, their work, and the pride they take in it.
>>58139114>You started to think.>Mostly about the situation before hand.>The Salazzle continued to cook without even seemingly acknowledging your pressence.>In a way she became far less jittery, only really jittering when she was drinking coffee.>You could see that she enjoyed the process of cooking.>But your mind was already trying to find solutions to the problem you were faced.>The idea of transporting her anywhere was out of the question.>If she pulled the stunt with the door inside a moving vehicle, it would end badly.>Even then, if you'd somehow gotten her to the station, any item containing metals capable of corrosion would be at risk.>You had no other choice than letting her stay.>Even if it still didn't feel right leaving her alone.>She was clearly suffering.>Like she was constantly in a state of denial about her current situation.>Repeating a lie with hopes it becomes true at some point.>Forcing herself to drink coffee despite clearly not enjoying it.>The constant bipedal movement despite a Salazzle normally moving on all fours.>In her less jittery moments you could see bruises on her white skin, making you question if those were caused by falling off the stairs.>The isolation from the outside world so no one would perceive her as a monster.>There was no other way to say it, but you felt sorry for her and what befell her.>You'd wish there was a support group for people like her, but as of now there were none.>Maybe you could get a psychologist to see her, but you were not sure how she'd react.>You kept spiraling within your thoughts, but something broke you out of them, as all of a sudden you felt something tugging at your trousers.>It was the shiny Salazzle, and she pointed you towards the table with 3 cups of coffee on it.
>>58142983Poor thing. It’s weird to remember Salazzle are only just under 4’ tall, shorter than an average 8 year old.
>>58139975>”A-Are you sure?”>Slowly, you nodded your head.>”Okay…”>Hal looked on the verge of tears.>”C-Check again?”>You swallowed down a sigh.>He didn’t know how easy it was to spot aura when you meditated.>But you had to be patient. >”Please?” The zoroark clasped his hands together.>Were the situations reversed, you’d have asked the same.>You humored the dark-type, closing your eyes and exhaling again.>Long and slow, precisely the same as a minute ago, you opened your mind to aura.>You and Hal stood out in the spacious living room.>Around your crossed-legged, meditating form, Hal circled.>He examined you from all angles.>Hal radiated wishful thoughts and curiosity. >A thin red claw reached out, but stopped short of touching the aura appendages rising from the back of your head. >Widening your search, you saw the same as before.>Insects crawled on the shady side of the house.>The grass, bushes, and flowers gave off the auras you’ve come to expect.>The sea of plants was broken by a squirrel hopping at random intervals.>A crow landed on the gutters.>Two children biked down the sidewalk, shouting to one another.>Hal crouched low behind the couch as they passed.>The neighbors’ homes had people… Cats… Dogs… And a pet iguana…>Peering further was hopeless.>Was it possible to track down one, singular aura among a city of tens of thousands? >Every life was unique, but if it was possible to hone your senses to such a degree, that was years of training ahead of you.>This time you sighed, coming back to reality.>Hal made eye contact, the first time since talking in the junkyard hours earlier. >You shook your head side to side.>He was too hopeful>And hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.>”It was a long shot, after all…” Hal mused, rubbing his temples.>He’d prayed his son had merely hidden himself inside the house all the while.>Some zorua behavioral instinct, or a game he was playing, he hypothesized.
>>58143546>Hal mumbled something about never letting his son out of his sight again.>Much as you wanted to leave and continue searching, Hal needed time to recuperate.>The trip to and back from the junkyard thoroughly exhausted him.>You spent the next hour sharing stories since losing your human forms.>He sat in the armchair, forcing himself more upright and humanlike than his new spine perhaps allowed.>You sat back against the plush couch.>Compared to the one at your place, this was heavenly.>Unfortunately, your tail was just as annoying to sit against.>But mid-conversation, inspiration struck.>You moved between couch cushions, and slid your tail into the gap behind you.>Finally, you could sit comfortably.>How long had it been since you talked with someone like this?>It hadn’t bothered you for weeks.>You went days without talking to people before, but never for this length of time.>Maybe lucario handled solitude well.>Only now did you realize how starved you were.>Your new bodies changed the both of you more than physically.>And Hal swore it changed his boy the most.>His normally talkative Harry wouldn’t say a peep after the transformation.>Strange physiology aside, you were all far more agile and had incredible endurance.>Hal was no biologist, and couldn’t explain your incredible healing rate. >He hadn’t injured himself since the change, and had zero desire to test the possibility.>He’d convinced the plant to let him work from home, saying he needed to watch Harry, and that a sickness hit the household.>Which wasn’t technically a lie.>The kitsune happily shared how much the company valued his work. >He was essential and indispensable. >You couldn’t say the same.>But if you had to pick between your old job versus your new body, it wasn’t a contest.>Mid-webcam meeting a week ago, Hal shared, his disguise started melting. >He unplugged his router passed it off as a shoddy internet connection.>Hal noticed the mental shift too.
>>58142527What a happy Zork. Having thumbs would be a huge boon to the mental health anyone TF’d.
>>58143552>Fooling his coworkers made him feel a real sense of accomplishment.>It was like finishing a great blueprint design, he claimed.>You could not relate.>But you got the idea.>Physical exercise made you feel accomplished now.>His hair puzzled him greatly.>The length was obnoxious. It draped to his shins.>But he was an engineer. >The last thing you wanted in his line of work was long hair. >It was an immense safety hazard.>While he tied it together with a stretched and strained scrunchie, he couldn’t bring himself to cut it.>He’d held scissors to the locks, but described it as “like trying to bite off your own finger.”>Couldn’t be done.>He’d instinctively put things in his hair to hold them know, even over using his shirt pocket.>Hal’s anxiety also spiked if he wasn’t veiled in an illusion outside.>The only reason he worked up the courage to reveal himself to you was the extraordinary circumstances.>Then he shared what was, by his own admission, the weirdest feelings he had.>His son was missing. >Gone, without a trace.>Barely a clue to go off of.>Unable to contact the police.>Unable to contact his mother.>And to make things worse, his son seemed as good, if not better, than he was at conjuring illusions and disguises. >Anything could have happened.>And yet…>Harry snuck out, evaded his father, remained hidden…>Any good dad would feel like dirt.>Should feel that way…>But no. >Some part of him was…>Proud.>>58142527Nice zork. https://rentry.org/HerdingCats#part-2Herding Cats part 2 is out. Some good stuff happens to Ben in this one but don't worry he still hits his head a bunch.Special thanks to >>58113282, thinking about your post gave me some clarity on how to proceed. I'm happier with this part than the first.Let me know what you think. I haven't been replying as much since I don't have much to add but I've been enjoying everyone's stories a lot. It's cool there's a little ecosystem of these now.>>58140044I feel like that when I get started but sometimes when I get going it starts to feel like an engine. It might be easier than you think if you give it a shot.
>>58143581>Bonds between these Pokémon are very strong. It protects the safety of its pack by tricking its opponents.>This Pokémon cares deeply about others of its kind, and it will conjure terrifying illusions to keep its den and pack safe.It may be the Zoroark instinct to feel pride that his little kit is talented enough to go out on his own, but they better find him soon. These foxes are strictly pack animals and you don’t want an angry parent’s instincts leading him to do something he might regret. You know, they could make a movie out of something like that.
>>58140044If all you can write is a few lines, then write a few lines. The more you do the easier it becomes.>>58142983"Damn I wish someone'd gotten that Lucario's number...">>58143115Protag is taller than a normal Lucario. That'd sure suck...>if you had to pick between your old job versus your new body, it wasn’t a contest.Hear hear!>>58143581This is great. Hal's experiences with his new form here are exactly what I want from stuff written from a Pokemon's perspective, transformed or not - how they experience and perceive the world differently than we do.>>58143914If there aren't any clues as to Harry's location among his personal effects, the next logical thing to do would be to check out places he liked to frequent.>>58143898A little ecosystem is exactly what we want. Pleased to see you continuing. I like how Ben is so obsessed with Cops that it's literally his happy place. A case of writing what we know, perhaps? Shit, now I wanna do a cat face emoticon...In any case, I see he's focusing more on developing his catness rather than his Pokemonness. Makes sense considering the surrounding stimuli. I like it. It's different. It sounds like there's a cat flap, so Ben might have to try being a little bit more adventurous eventually, especially if he wants to eat properly.
>>58142537These next two pics relate to the status of Slowpoke's evolutions in this setting. Pokemon don't eat meat in MD, so I figure Shellders generally aren't going to be going around biting Slowpokes at random. Instead, there'd likely have to be some process in place to match Slowpokes with willing Shellders, and the thing with that is that Slowpoke is a very common Pokemon, so it likely wouldn't be practical that all or even most Slowpokes would get to evolve. When willing pairs ARE found they'd be at liberty to try out both the Slowbro and Slowking forms to see what works best for them (Slowking usually wins for obvious reasons). Slowking become guardians and stewards of their kind in this scenario, working to streamline the process in order to get as many willing Slowpokes and Shellders paired up as possible.Drawfag friend, in his youthful genius, proposed a family reunion between a Slowking and the Cloyster parent of the Shellder on their head... only for the Cloyster to discover to their disgust and horror that both now share a sincere love of terrible puns...Cloyster: "So, how's life as a Slowking been treating you?"Shellder crown: "Pretty good, actually! I have been enjoying it a bunch!"Cloyster: "I imagine. You seem far happier than when you were a Shellder."Shellder crown: "Yeah, well. I guess I got more shell-f confidence now!" Cloyster: Top picrel is their face when.Shellder: "C'mon, Dad, we're just trying to help you... come out of your shell...!"Slowking: "Maybe he just needs a few PEARLS of my wisdom..."As for the bottom one, I honestly just wanted to have the Vaporeon lazing on an office water cool from the 4th of July Eevee thread be canon in my setting...Slowking: “Hey, Vapey! Water you doing?”Vaporeon: “Just take your water and leave.”I like to think Slowking and Shellder make those same puns and that same awesomeface everywhere they go, to the point you could make a Brodyquest vid about it (remember that old meme?)
>>58143898Nicely done anon. Regarding >>58113282 I had thought his apathy was supposed to be from him being a stoner as referenced by his girlfriend hooking up with him for weed. I like that he has more concern now and realizes how utterly bizarre it is that he is now some fictional beast designer by a video game company. It’s too far off to practically worry about, but imagine finally evolving into an Incineroar and finally getting back onto two legs.
>you now realize that the elderly, the terminally sick, the mentally disabled, the newly born, and the physically handicapped are also potential victims to be turned into pokemonDoes becoming a Gardevoir mean you no longer have to be on dialysis? What happens to a 105 year old when they turn into a Heliolisk? Can Chesnaught still have autism? If a paraplegic got turned into an Empoleon what happens?
>>58145565In a high concept story like this, you can generally get away with one element of your story having no more rational an explanation than, "It's magic - I ain't gotta explain shit", particularly if it's the catalyzing element that causes the story to happen. In this case that'd be, "People are falling asleep and waking up as Pokemon, with more people finding themselves transformed over time".Given that that's this story's "one", you can kind of interpret the answer to this question however you want. The condition of one's new Pokemon body aligning with the condition of the preceding human body is the most grimdark possibility, but it seems just as likely everyone who transforms gets a young, healthy body. Although even then you might decide that it doesn't cure mental illness. Or maybe it does, since we already know everyone who transforms experiences significant psychological changes. The only requirement is that any hard-and-fast rules you DO wind up establishing about how the transformation must not be violated moving forward. The audience will suspect their disbelief for your fantastical premise, but contradicting yourself will break their suspension of disbelief. There's some wiggle-room if you can provide a rational explanation for why a rule is being violated, but with something like this that may be unlikely.
>>58145565Simple new body = fresh body. The consciousness is what is transferred and then adapts to the new form and mind.

It read, "Do you enjoy the coffee?">"Yes, you could say I'm quite fond of it. Thank you," you answered, following with another sip of coffee.>The answer made her jitter with excitement this time.>She quickly returned to her tablet to ask another question.>You remembered how her personality was described by the neighbor, and in this moment she matched the description one to one.>It was like she almost forgot that she was a pokemon.>She turned her tablet over to you with the second question.>"Do you maybe want some sugar or milk with your coffee? How about some snacks or cake?"
>>58144497>A case of writing what we know, perhaps?Nah, I picked Cops because it was the first show I could think of that just ran on and on for hours. If I were writing what I knew he'd be watching the Simpsons>In any case, I see he's focusing more on developing his catness rather than his Pokemonness. [...] Ben might have to try being a little bit more adventurous eventually, especially if he wants to eat properly.Damn, you just predicted all of Part 3. He'll get a chance to develop his Pokemonness soon, Litten just has a much more limited skillset than something like Zoroark or Salazzle so there's only so much I have to work with.>>58145283Yeah, I needed to make it more obvious he was in denial about the situation, not just oblivious to it. Deep down he knows it's bad and could get worse, he just doesn't want to acknowledge it.He actually doesn't smoke, he's just scruffy looking and mellow so everyone assumes he does. This is me writing what I know.Incineroar is one of the few Pokemon that get five whole fingers, too. That would be an important goal to work towards if this weren't obviously going to fix itself in a few days with no effort needed on his part.Thank you guys for reading it!>>58148156Speaking of denial...

A Salazzle, to be specific. Strange as it might see. We currently don't know what caused this to happen, but there is an ongoing investigation into the subject". You answered using a calm tone.>She quickly returned to the tablet to ask another question, far more frantic than before.>This time the question was about if there are any others like her>"To the police's knowledge, there is one other confirmed case of this happening in town. There are also many unconfirmed cases, with one high-profile case", answered your colleague in a more professional but more authoritative tone.>Her breathing became more frantic as she was typing the next question, like preparing for the worst.>"What is going to happen to me?" she asked.>"As of now you are going to stay at your house. We do not currently have the means to transport you safely anywhere", you answered.>While the first part of the answer seemingly calmed her down, the second half made her hyperventilate.>She started writing something again, this time shaking like an earthquake.>"What do you mean by 'transport'?!" >>58144538Reason I keep fretting over whether people are interested in this stuff is that I don't want to clog a great thread up with shit nobody wants to read. However, I only have one more picture to post, so I might as well do that at least. This one's a WIP since drawfag friend got busy with college. We see an Emolga detective discovering that a seemingly disused warehouse is in fact full of dormant Golurk lined up like battlemechs. In the final version of the image there will be Sigilyph suspended from the ceiling as well. Both of these Pokemon are characterized in their dex. entries as obedient, manmade automatons who keep vigil over ancient human cities. Even in the post-apocalypse, they extend that same loyalty to the Pokemon cities that have come to supplant the human ones. They can sleep for years... even centuries... until needed. The few times they do awaken, their fragmentary memories of humans are dismissed by most as senility owing to extreme age, but it is in fact merely a consequence of the fact that they always find themselves awakening in a world very different to the one they left behind, only ever learning a snapshot of what the world is now like before they inevitably return to their slumber once again. One of my sillier small worldbuilding ideas, and yet paradoxically one of my favourites, involves an expansion of the idea presented in The Slugma Powered Home. Certain fire types (particularly Slugma, but also Sizzlipede and Rotom Heat among others) live on the premises of the factory they work at in a special dormitory above the plant with metallic surfaces - expressly designed to be as comfortable for the most extreme temperature fire types as possible. There they can relax without having to worry as much about having to actively control their heat output. Many find this preferable to modified regular housing, especially as Slugma is slow and this makes commuting even more painful than it is for most folks.

Not enough to seriously threaten supply chains or infrastructure (provided Pokemon aren't actively destroying it) as of yet, but it's still a lot, and human civilization is gonna start falling apart FAST if the rate of transformation increases exponentially.Alternatively, the rate of transformation might be linear. 3.5 million every, say, three weeks would mean it'd take 14 years for 10% of the world population to transform, which MIGHT be slow enough to allow the world to adapt. Or the transformations could be "clustered" and our town is merely a hotspot, with the global rate being much lower. Our town might even be the epicenter of the entire phenomenon, with your odds of transforming decreasing the further away from our town you live. That last one's liable to have a lot of consequences for protag and the others if true though.
