I picked this Game Boy Color up relatively cheap on eBay so I can relive my lost childhood and cope with my meager existence. It has been a long time since I held a GBC but I don't know if it feels right. The seller mentioned some "discoloration" but it seems like the battery cover is almost an entirely different shade than the rest of the brick which makes me think the case has been replaced. Can anyone identify whether this is fake or not?
>>58184805Looks legit to me. You're an old man, now, with old man hands. If the last time you held a GBC was as a child, with your underdeveloped child hands, then of course it will feel different. If you have to have some fun look into kit upgrades for backlit screens and rechargeable batteries. You can go further with custom printed cases, but then you run into the whole ship of theseus debate.
>>58184805>Can anyone identify whether this is fake or not?The case and the battery door have both been replaced, that's why it's cheap. It's common, and if you're OK with it just bid accordingly.
>>58184829>If the last time you held a GBC was as a child, with your underdeveloped child hands, then of course it will feel different.This. It was never a very ergonomic device to begin with but as an adult every gameboy model besides the advance (non-sp) hurts to use for more than 30 minutes, they're only slightly better than phones because at least the buttons are physical and they have some depth to them for grip.
>>58184805>almost an entirely different shade than the rest of the brickThe composition could be slightly different because they're two separate pieces.
>>58184805Who the fuck cares. You should be questioning more why you're trying to cling onto childhood like this. >muh lost childhoodGrow up faggot
>>58186158oh boy fred flintstone's home tough day in the mines?
A re-shelled Gameboy Color isn't going to hurt anything. The main knockoff fake is pretty obvious, and if they're shoving in a funnyplaying FPGA Gameboy kit with a custom shell they would be losing money. I'd be concerned more about how new the cartridge is.
>>58184805I still have mine from when I was a kid I should get it out. I haven't played Dragon Warrior in forever
>>58184805i think they just left the battery cover removed in the sun for a while, probably on accident, just discolored a bit is allenjoy, imo Crystal is the most fun of the era before GBA, shinies and the first game with sprite animations wowee
>>58186325Don't forget the battle tower!Everyone forgets the battle tower :(
>>58184805In my experience the barcode sticker isn't usually used on a reshell, if the plastic case feels flimsy in your hands, then it would be a reshell, the battery cover could be a replacement or an original from a different console, my own GBC that I got for cheap years ago was missing one so I got a replacement for it.
>>58186774a neat precursor to cooler facilities to come, but def a necessary first stepi forget are there even any nice rewards from it in crystal?
>>58187001Nope!But they were challenging as hell back in the day. I never understood why people say gen 2 has no postgame when that tower took me for fucking ever as a wee lad.
>>58187075what was your goat ‘mon (or ‘mons) for that anyhow, was it curse users
>>58184805It seems legit. The plastic for the battery cover should feel about the same as the rest of the plastic, even if it's discolored.More importantly, look into buying a soldering iron and gbc battery holders. It'll make it super easy to swap batteries. Buy the white ones, not the off-white/yellowed plastic ones because they're brittle and snap. There are also devices and software nowadays so you can hook your gbc game up to pc and save all your data so you don't lose it every decade.I still like using my gbc, it fits well in one hand. Brought it to work during my last pokemon run and others started digging theirs out too.
