What are some of your favorite theories over the years that have ultimately proven to be untrue? Recent or retro, anything is fine so long as it's deboonked.

One I haven't seen mentioned much in recent years is one that I think was probably inspired by Monster Rancher, specifically that Pokemon were bio-engineered weapons created to fight in a war, presumably the one Lt. Surge fought in.

It's no surprise this one fell off, it was only really a viable theory for one or two generations. In gen 1, it was believable- Mew was the only "ancient progenitor" type Pokemon, and if you accepted his existence you could say all Pokemon were developed from him. Furthermore, real world animals still existed, lending credence to the idea these strange colorful beasts were a recent addition to the biosphere slowly replacing those that lack wacky abilities.

Of course, with Johto came Ho-Oh and Lugia, two more Pokemon with historical ties, and Unown, occupants of ancient ruins marked with their forms. Hoenn brought the Regis and the Super-Ancient Pokemon, plus more mundane relicmons like Claydol. And Sinnoh gave us the llama in an innertube said to have created all Pokemon, which was a nail in the coffin so final it probably wasn't even needed. But, as a tot at the height of Pokemania, it was fun to speculate.

Some asshole years ago lied about a Raikou being catchable in Pinwheel forest on black and white. I was dumb enough to believe the faggot.

I remember some fan theory back in gen 1 or 2 about how aside from mew and mewtwo there was a mewthree you could catch somewhere. We were dumb kids.

ZodiacCHADs... We lost....

that persisted until xy added the mega mewtwo forms. I was 100% convinced mega mewtwo y was mewthree until they revealed it was a form change.

That Cyndaquil wasn't a rat then we saw it along with the other rats in that official art

Cyndaquil is a porcupine. Mistranslations are not canon

Zodiac fire types/Prehistoric grass types/Weapon-themed water types was the funniest example of out-of-control patternfagging I ever saw. It led to some fun fan designs too.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone did have it in mind and kept it going in the middle years between cindaquil and croc, it seemed like too many to be a coincidence.

Just beat the E4 100 times without dying anon

Based knower.

I read on GameFAQs that if you bred two shiny Gyarados together you'd get a shiny Magikarp that would evolve into a Golden Gyarados and spent quite a while trying to make it happen back in GSC. Still a little salty about that one.

there should honestly be different types of shinies with different conditions to get them. golden shinies should be a percent chance when both parents are shiny

>he thinks mewthree isn't real

I remember those weird faded Pokemon from gen 8 that everyone thought was a new "albino" type of shiny, before Game Freak patched them out. Very curious what was supposed to be happening there.
