As much as I can't stand GameFreak's fucking blue shilldog, the lead up to DP where Lucario being sealed away in pretty much a literal diamond & Manaphy's egg was essentially considered a pearl being a jewel from the bottom of the sea were almost "prophetic" planned or not.

Though both films were rather mid it doesn't take away from the multi-year hype

I agree. The buildup to Sinnoh was more interesting that what Sinnoh turned out to be unfortunately. I remember the hoaxes of being able to “catch” Munchlax in Gen 3 or recruit it in PMD.
