IF will check every time the function is used even if it is redundant and is recommended to never use it in code, especially for games where things are constantly being checked at times. It's the equivalent of checking a hallway of doors for the right living room but continuing to check even if you have already found it. Switch cases are vastly superior and basically stopping the checks once it was found. In Pokemon, IF and Switch cases can be technically applied for level scaling since it needs to check the event flag if a certain badge has been obtained. If-statements would go the list of all the badges to check how many you own instead of dropping things.
