Is it important to be able to catch a lot of pokemon before the first gym?

>>58197305stupid nigga
>>58197292if the games are gonna be about collecting monsters, there should be a variety of available new encounters spread throughout the game things get boring when there are no new experiences
>>58197292Nah>>58197305There's no rustling grass before Dreamyard, that's after gym 1
Crystal has 20, probably the best oldgen distribution
>>58197298I didn’t make this image. If I had, I would’ve included the extra pokemon you can catch in Yellow before the first gym (mankey and pidgeotto).
>>58197292We have more than 1000 pokemon. I don't see the issue in increasing tha amount of pokemon you can catch in the first gym. Just make the gyms harder instead of destroying them with your starter.
>>58197292>BW has 5 Such bad games
>>58197292The Hoenn games have the best pool of early game Pokemon
>>58197292I tend to like to have my full team of 6 as early as possible but it’s not a requirement. Most games have a majority of their early games taken up by older Pokemon I’m not interested in using anyway
>>58197292A bit of a nebulous questions since different gyms (Trial for SM) kinda take different amounts of time to get to.I kinda feel SwSh overdid it, with the Wild Area, but that is kinda it being broken in general, if you are lucky with the weather or dens you get absurd stuff early (and that is not starting on the DLC), and it can be a bit overwhelming. SV technically is even worse but i think the MUH NON-LINEAR helps it cause who knows how long it atjkes before you get to the first gym unless you have the gist of levels down. Recommended order guides are kinda shit cause they usually go by level without considering how many mons are involved, which means they tend to put Titans later then Gyms/Team Star, even though Titans are easier, especially since Arven always helps with them.
>>58197292GS and XY overdo it, BW underdoes it, 8-15 is the ideal range before your first gym. SM is a special case because of how many areas you go through.
>>58197323it's called pacing, you blubbering buffoon. you don't want to overload new players with too many options.
