>>58198801Hippowdon is very cool. Some of the design choices are a bit odd (the feet are weird for example) but otherwise a pretty good Pokemon.
>>58198801I like it, GF should have kept the sand with its model. I remember thinking the female one Bertha uses was shiny.
>>58198801I've always thought it looked way cooler with its mouth open than otherwise.
>>58198833the drastic male/female color difference is pretty cool. It's not all that common in Pokemon even though it's common in nature, especially with birds
>>58198801Hippos are rad but I've never used one
>>58198801I love the design, and the concept of a hippo emerging from the sand and attacking you seems terrifying to me, my only complaint is that it's very abandoned, no Mega with gigantic tusks or a Giga that looks like an island-mountain moving through the desert.
>>58199203Imagine living in Orre. It's taken you years to grow your PokeBeans in such an arid place, but finally, your efforts bear fruit. So half your garden disappears overnight. You see a small mound of earth move—damn Sandshrew! You take your plow and give it a strong blow. Then, out of the ground, emerges the colossal head of a bull Hippodown, "amigo, tu estas reverendamente jodido"But there are no Hippodowns in Orre, nor should there be feral Hippos in Colombia, but life finds a way.
>>58198801I hate how short and broad the 3D models make its mouth.I also hate its stupid asss toes.Aside from that it's great.
>>58198801Makes me think it’s weird that sandstorm doesn’t really do anything for ground types outside of chip damage immunity. Like not even a thunder equivalent.
>>58199387EQ is one of the most spammable moves so it's not like Ground really needs something like that.
Best ground type since dug
>>58199387There is Shore Up (aka Sand Gather in Japanese), but it hasn't gotten distribution outside of Palossand. Not that Hippowdon would use it over Slack Off but still
>>58200471>Not that Hippowdon would use it over Slack OffWhy not?
>>58200472I thought it was worse in other weathers but I guess not.So there wouldn't be a reason to use Slack Off over Shore Up, since you get a benefit under sand and still 50% otherwise.
Are there any romhacks with Hippopotas in them?
>>58198801looks too much like a real life hippopotamus but otherwise it's pretty cool
>>58198801love this lil guygreat bulk, STAB earthquake, and sets up rocks and sand to help its teammates while chipping most enemiesalso does anyone else find it odd how hippowdon is the only ground type that innately and reliably sets sand
>>58198801It looked cool af in the official art and then you realize what it really looks like in most games with mouth closed and no sand pouring out.
>>58198801I like him. Really wanna use one for a campaign playthrough too
Hippowdon is one of those Ground Pokemon that basically fits all the stereotypes of the Ground-type. Just look at that stat line man. Gorgeous.
>>58198801>cash me outside hippowdonEww...
It's Ground-type: The Pokemon. So I love it. One of those blue collar, salt of the earth Pokemon. Reliable, consistent, comforting. The feet are weird. I'm okay with them. Until we got to 3d models I never noticed, all it's sprites look great. Hippopotas cute.
>>58201554ground type is my favorite type for a lot of good reasonsamong my favorite groundmons are sandslash, gastrodon, nidoking, zygarde, groudon, torterra, garchomp, swampert, great tusk, camerupt, excadrill, and krookodilethere isn't a ground type i actively dislike, the ground type is just that consistently goodand it also proves that consistency and variety are clearly not mutually exclusive
>>58201624>>58201554The Ground-type philosophy is summarized completely just by looking at the best move the game: Earthquake. It's power and accuracy have never been altered. It has always been a staple. It is perfect.
The Ground-type is the firm foundation you can rely on.
>>58198801Typical gen 4 fatmon.
>>58200501You can get one in Tourmaline before the second gym.
>>58202575Chonky
>>58198814Its feet are clearly designed so it could actually walk in sand instead falling into.
>>58199360Yup 3D Modeler fucked up a lot.
>>58204679What is the in-universe explanation for Hippowdon being able to live in water?
>>58206537thirsty
>>58206537Unlike some other ground types such as Palossand, Geodude, Claydol, etc, Hippowdown is not literally made of mineral. Its seems to be flesh and blood creature that happens to have earth related powers. It's general physiology, aside from the chambers inside it that store sand, probably mostly resembles a real hippo.
>>58198801This things anatomy freaks me out, a huge chunk of its insides is just an empty space for sand storage. You could put your hand inside on of the holes and where you would expect soft tissue you either find nothing or sand.
>>58198801I like threads like these, where people are just talking about they're favorite pokemon. It's very refreshing.
