The second-best generation, in terms of raw fun, is gen 3 (both RSE and FRLG).

Elite 4 starts at level 40, not only making it the lowest elite 4 start by 6 levels, but meaning that you wont be able to use some of your favourite pokemon (ex dragonite) until half way through the postgame without sweeping every gym.Gyms are way too easy and are ordered wrong (kanto is meant to be free, I know, but why is brock stronger than sabrina??) and so much more that gripes me about this game.

I cannot for the life of me tell what is so appealing about these games. Kanto being the postgame was this big hyped up “omg we can go back to our roots” moment which is immediately stabbed and murdered by the fact that not only is kanto devoid of any actual substance besides catching pokemon and defeating underbaked gym leaders, but there is no more story. These games are terrible. Looking good≠playing good. But of course people will praise these games like they’re the birth of Christ himself because “omg hehe i can go to kanto and play through kanto for the 18th time” and “no way my pokemon follows me”. Boring dogshit.
>>58203655I don’t like how the pokemon are distributed in Johto; too much stuff is stuffed into the postgame. I like the introduction of breeding but hatching eggs takes way too long. The phone call mechanic might be one of the worst gameplay decisions of all time, and, I know this is a hardware issue, but the internal clock in the cartridge that allows for the day-night cycle makes it more likely the save file will be erased.
