I’ve been replaying some of the older Pokémon games, and honestly, Paldea just feels bland and monotonous in comparison. I’m not even talking about textures, just the world design itself. Mainly because it has no impressive landmarks that really stand out- especially landmarks that actually mirror real-world ones. The only thing I can really remember are a few towns that had cool aesthetics and lore to them, but outside of that it's all green grassy fields. In comparison, I've been playing through Pokemon Y in preparation for Z-A, and there are tons of landmarks that make Kalos unforgettable. You have things like Reflection Cave, Glittering Cave, Prism Tower (even though that is a gym, it's still memorable and striking), the manor on route 6, the mega evolution tower in Shalour City, the Kalos Powerplant and Lumiose Badlands. Then with Sinnoh you tend to think of places like Mt. Coronet, the Safari Zone, Snowpoint City and Temple, the lakes.Unova had the Dream Yard, Reversal Mountain, the Marine Tube, Chargestone cave, etc.
>>58211530Scarlet and Violet just has Mesagoza, that one art city, and Cascarffa that I remember.. and Mesagoza is probably my least favorite area out of any Pokemon game- to the point where I actively avoid it. Most of the place names are forgettable and outside of things like Area Zero and the starting route, it doesn't really feel like any of the areas were constructed carefully. I think most of it had to do with this game being their first open world game, and that they went from designing tight areas with interesting landmarks to open areas that could be approached at any angle. I feel like the DLC for Scarlet and Violet ended up handling the world design a bit better, as Kitakami and Blueberry Academy feel more detailed and interesting as locations. Especially with Blueberry Academy including references to both Alola and Unova within it. I'm hoping at least that Gen 10 will have a more interesting region that sticks in the mind.Am I the only one who feels this way?
>SV thread Sharty thread
>>58211532I agree with everything but I feel like blueberry is worse with it if anything, it feels more like a mini Paldea and the fact they don’t take advantage of the underwater school setting for some cool “dive” moments or swimming minigames sucksAlso no bond episodes with brair 0/10
>>58211530yes, it's the poorest, blandest, easiest, most forgettable, and emptiest regionThe towns are empty, the people are ugly, Pokemon centers were reduced to glorified gas stations, not enough trainers to support a battle facility, and they can't even afford a proper league. They were too true to the latinx theme
>open world is shitmore news @ 11
>>58211530>>58211532>>58211549>Paldea is le forgettabble >Despite it has more drawings than BortnovaLmao

Paldea as a region unmistakably sucks, barely any notable landmarks, no sidequests or anything of the sort, caves all have the same identical visuals and it took the DLC for them to do something interesting, towns are all completely devoid of interiors and by extension any interesting NPCs, turning them into glorified menus you have to fly to. The game was an okay open world romp but the actual region is completely devoid of anything worthwhile, minus one or two standout areas that just happened to look good visually, but still had nothing to do in them. A mile wide and an inch thick, it's too bad.>>58211570SV's greatest strength was its NPCs and plot but that's not the same as the region itself being any good. As an example, replaying Johto games are fun despite there being very little in terms of story and NPC dialog compared to that of SV, but places like Ecruteak with its two towers, Olivine and the lighthouse, the Rocket Base, Dragon's Den and Ruins of Alph are all make the region stand out far more to me than Paldea did with its empty plains and barren mountains.
Oh but dude I love the iconic location known as fuckin… east province area three
>>58211590>every human artwork from every generation combined is still just under Gen 1 Pokemon
>>58211530It's really funny how the Elite Four quiz asks you a question about which town a specific gym battle took place in, as if anyone would remember any of them.
>>58211530>just the world design itself. Absolutely agree, even Galar is much much more memorable. Idk who's more forgettable between Hisui and Paldea
>>58211530The Open World is so god damn bland, nothing interesting happens in it nor do the Pokemon actually feel like they interact with it.
plass ruined pokemon with open field unity maps
>>58211794SwSh did, not that PLA is much bettter.
>>58211530>Crater of Paldea>Grand Olive Orchard>Million Volt Skyline>Colonnade Hollow with Water Garchomp>Cascarrafa with its cool placement
Normal trainer battles may as well not exist in SV. You do them to get rewards from the Poke center guys. Eventually you're just running around low level areas looking for the one guy standing out in a field so you can one-shot his level 13 Shroodle and go get your eviolite. It's busywork. You don't even do it for levels because you don't need to. They just exist.
>>58211532No, I don't remember anything about Paldea other than Area Zero. The only memorable parts of me for SV in general were Area Zero and the Expansion content. Kitakami was kinda comfy and I enjoyed the Blueberry Academy stuff, but as far as the region and environments go, it's joint with Galar for the most forgettable region.
>>58211530It felt the opposite for me, a very engaging region compared to previous games. Take Alola for example, it might have le tropical aesthetic as an identity and whatever, but the region itself is as tedious as possible, every area feels like a chore. In SV you are given the means to explore as much as you want, there's TMs and specific spawn points that encourage you to actually walk around other than just heading straight to your objective, so I'd hardly call that monotonous. And there are lots of nice spots and locations, provided you care about looking for them. It's like you guys lack the awareness to realize you paid full attention to the older games you played as kids while you have zero patience for newer games.
>>58211530The whole game just feels like a fake fan game
>>58211839No because SWSH wasn't technically free roaming or large open space to wander
>>58212545>there's TMs and specific spawn points that encourage you to actually walk around other than just heading straight to your objectiveAnd while bumping repeatedly into every single mon on the way
>>58212545It's just a bunch of a shiny goodies on the ground. After only a bit they just become worthless. You can just make TMs anyway. The game over feeds you resources. Picking up a rare candy means nothing. They're worthless. It's like picking breadcrumbs off the ground. It's busywork. Your brain shuts off. It's probably not good for you.
>>58211533what this means
>>58211530the environment was mostly forgettable save area zero and a few cities like others have said but idk i just enjoyed running around and finding out what mons lived where and adding them to the team. hell you get so many options before you even reach mesagoza that it's hard to not go on a full exploration of the optional area to the side just to see what you can get
>>5821157099% of that is Iono hard carrying the entire rest of the Gym Leader cast.
SV has a giant hole in the ground that looks cool as shit but that's about it
>>58211570Is that a gym leader from motherfucking CANTHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
>>58211561Fake news
>>58211530The thing I hate the most is single use TMs.
