Playing this game really puts how weak gen 2 pokemon are into perspective.
Maybe back then.Today there's a surprising number of them that do well. Ho-Oh made top 16 at Worlds and Entei appeared in several high placing teams in reg I.Then there's Smeargle and Tyranitar, sure Ttar doesn't enjoy the same status it historically had, but it's been good for a long time.
>>58214107They're not weak. The game doesn't give you enough XP and you have to grind if you ever change a Pokemon from your team.
>>58214107Game Freak purposely made Gen2 Pokemon so much weaker than everything else because they wanted GoySlopCrap to flop since at the time they didn’t want to make Pokémon anyone and wanted Nintendo to end their contract with them. But toddies were too stupid to know they were being insulted and bought it anyway so Game Freaak was forced to keep making Pokémon. It since Sugimori wanted to return some coolness to Pokemon he made sure even subsequent generations as much stronger. Thats why Gen 2 only region with such weak shitters, it’s the freak misfit of Pokémon
>DUDE COLOSSEUM IS LIKE SO CHALLENGING BECAUSE IT FORCES YOU TO USE A LIMITED SELECTION OF SHITMONS!!>ignore shitmons>spend entire game spamming Bite/Toxic with Umbreon and Psybeam/Screens with Espeon while never switching>is as piss easy as mainline gameswoooooow so peak
>>58214167Doubles was a pretty new concept and hadn't been fleshed out as much.Certainly the children playing the games were not figuring out that there's an extra layer of strategy to winning the battles.
>>58214107Because G2 is conceptually just a complement, it's not designed to operate independently of Kanto like Hoenn is.For example, if you remove all connections to Kanto, pre-evolutions and evolutions like Steelix and Scizor don't exist, leaving you with a dex of about 50 mediocre Pokémon and a few good Pokémon like Tyranitar or the legendary beasts.Even the gym leaders reflect this dependence on Kanto.
>>58214183Yep, Gen 2 was Gen 1 leftovers that didn't make the cut. That's also why the designs felt very consistent between those first 2 gens though.
>>58214183Fixed
>>58214175Having multiple party members in combat was the standard since the 80s. Sometime they had 5 or even 6 fight at the same time.
>>58214214Did the AI bot break?
>>58214183>Uh, no, you don't have 50% more cake than me>If you cut out the ingredients that my cake uses from your cake, you'll barely have a cake, so therefore I have more cake>Nooo what are you doing, you're not supposed to play the post-game, it DOESN'T COUNT, it's not content because it's OPTIONAL and based on things that were thought of in MY GAME>STOP USING HERACROSS AND FRIENDSHIP EVOLUTIONS AND RARE POKÉMON, THAT DOESN'T COUNT, YOU CAN ONLY USE YOUR STARTER AND AMPHAROS AND EASY TO FIND POKÉMON, NOBODY WANTS TO GO INTO AN OPTIONAL DUNGEON
>>58214219No, anon is talking about jrpgs in general. Double battles were only new to pokemon specifically, having synergy and combos with active party members was far from a new concept to the genre. The slightly older players who'd grown up a bit since gen 1 that Colosseum specifically targeted with its deeper mechanics, older protagonist, and darker themes should have seen that kind of thing before and been able to figure out how to do that with their pokemon. Please for the love of god play something other than pokemon once in a while. I love Colosseum, but it was never some totally unique experience nobody could figure out back then. The people getting stuck for hours and relying on grinding were just dumb kids who didn't know the mechanics yet.
>>58214471At least you explained what anon could not, you're a gigantic faggot though.
On the non-chance it has full home support on Switch 2, I'm going to beat it with 6 reasonably strong guys dumped in at level 30 and use trade boost EXP to fix the level curve.
it was a fun gamenot perfect, but they made a different kind of rpg using pokemon which i appreciate
>>58214137How would making Gen 2 Pokemon weak help lower sales? You think anyone under the age of 20 cared about the stats of Pokemon they caught?
>>58214227Once the credits roll I want nothing to do with the game. Pokemon simply doesn't have fun gameplay, it's all about being immersed in the trainer's journey, and once you take that away you just have emptiness. It's especially bad in gen 2 because of the level curve, the extra gyms are piss easy while Red is overleveled and there's nothing to grind on in between except for the weakmons in Victory Road and Silver's weaksauce team.
>Gen II was designed to failvs.>Game Freak are actually bad game designersWhy is the latter never brought up? They made up most of GS on the spot in less than 2 years after axing a year of development. The fact it was still fun was because it was heavily leaning on everything Gen I established, same and especially with Gen III and IV
>>58214212>replacing two pokemon on lance>neither is one of his three dragonitesare you retarded?
>>58214133>box legendary>normal legendary>pokemon who can learn every move>psuedo legendary
>>58214136didn’t realize i was making this mistake til i got to the purification shrine, i spread the xp pretty evenly so i could purify a bunch and then realized i didnt improve my level gap in any meaningful way when i purified them lmao
>>58214107If we had another game with double battles with the current Pokemon it would be incredible
>>58214167I have played many official Pokemon games using only Delcatty, and Colosseum is without question the hardest one. Enough of this “all Pokémon games have literally the same level of difficulty” cope.
>>58215009Are they not in gen 2?Are these categories not featured in other generations?
>>58214877If it were just game freak being bad at game design, every game would have an unplayable broken level curve, an embarrassing bland roster of shitters that even sugimori hates, no identity, and a lame story. johto games are the only ones to have any those problems. It cant even be inexperience or else Gen 1 would also have those problems. Why would game freak start with perfection in their first game, randomly forget how to make games in their second, then make good games afterword. Intentional sabotage is the only possible explanation.
>>58215243colosseum was harder than xd gale of darkness? i haven’t played xd, admittedly, but i always thought it was the other way around
>>58215393It was inexperience and they were way in over their heads. Gen 2 was development hell.Iwata saved them.
>>58215393Almost like the game changed directors midway or something, cause the quality was pretty consistently bad afterward
>>58215243is it the same Delcatty that you've transferred up through the generations?if not, how many do you have?do you leave one in each game, or try to keep them with you in the most current one?what do you do in a game before you have access to trade or transfer in a Skitty or Delcatty?do you use Skitty as a pseudo-starter and let it evolve in its own course, or do you try to go straight to Delcatty?honestly one of my favorite posters on /vp/
>>58215419It is a different Delcatty each gameUsually I hack in Skitty as the starter, which can be easily done with either the universal Pokemon randomizer or PkHex. The exception being Colosseum and XD because there are no Moon Stones in those games, so I started with a Delcatty in those games.
>>58215009>They don't count.....Because they don't
>>58215513>this region is weak>yeah well the pokemon supposed to be strong are strong
>>58214107Dogshit boring games nobody bought
>>58214133not even back then. In game the only issue with Gen 2 Pokemon was availibidfliy because GenWun Pokemon are easier to find, in and pvp Gen 2mons were just as srong as Gen 1 mons outside of weird outliers like Snorlax. The idea that Gen 2 pokemon are abnoramlly weak and always that way is a fairly recent revision propagated by shills who use Gen 2 their go to scapegoat to deflect rom the flaw of new games, and nu-fans who eat it up since Johto's gone the longest without a game so they're less likely to know the truthl (and if if the ones who know the they continue since shitting on Jotho makes their nu-region look better in comparasion. Gen 2 only statd falling behind around Gen 6 when KANTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO shilling got out o controll and the Hoenn shitters all got saved with meags. And everything from Sinnoh onward is either a bloated BST evo, or minmazed as fuck
>>58214212>lance>dragon trainerkekthis board
>>58215405Colosseum has the more difficult main campaign than XD. XD has a much much easier start, and the final boss can be cheesed with Shadow Lugia or Shadow Snorlax. It does not start getting to the same level of difficult as Colosseum until Gorrigan. What you might have heard about is the post game/extra contentColosseum has two Mount Battles, one for the campaign and one for the battle mode. XD only has a campaign mode Mount Battle. The CMB(campaign mount battle) for Colo is pretty easy, not a single fight is harder than the final boss of the campaign itself, as no one has Pokemon higher level than Evice's. XD's CMB is harder, having higher level Pokemon and better put together teams, giving the player an extra challenge after the campaign is over. I have not played the battle mode version of Colosseum in a long time, so I do not know if that is harder than XD's. Also XD has something called the Orre Colosseum, which is series of level capped Colosseum battles , that is likely the hardest piece of single player content in any Pokemon(that plays like the mainline ones atleast). So XD does offer harder content but only after the main campaign, which is easier than Colosseum's main campaign.
>>58215500what did you do before Gen 3, before Delcatty existed?what drew you to Delcatty in the first place?
>>58215638I am a Gen 3 baby, Colosseum was the first Pokemon game I played. I fell in love with Delcatty when I saw Venus use one on her team. I have never played the original gen 1 or 2 games, and I do not really want to since they have been remade as versions I can hack Delcatty into.
>>58215650Correction: Colosseum was the first video game I ever played
>>58215650>>58215654thanks for answeringI see you get weird shit from other posters sometimes, so thanks for trusting that I was really just interested
>>58215716yeah you are welcome thanks for asking
>>58215729nta, but I can respect someone who's found 'their' thing. Pokemon or otherwise. More power to ya!
>>58215405Colosseum is the hardest pokemon game by far. Mostly due to the cheating ai that knows what you will do and responds accordingly >have fire type vs water type>Switch to grass type>Water type used ice beam! The ai starts cheating about half way through the game, this does not happen in xd. The teams you encounter during on citadark and Mt.battle are technically better but they are easier to overcome. I would say XD edges out colosseum in terms of difficulty due to its much tougher mt. Battle which has lv70 pokemon in it(game ends at 45 so you'll have to grind) but the battle mode version of Mt. Battle in colosseum is so brutal it takes it by a mile if you plan on taking it on you have to use powerful pokemon and so not much to choose from in colosseum. One quirk about the game is it doesn't quite understand ghost pokemon so misdreavus is a solid option despite its stats. The legendary dogs and tyranitar + metagross are almost must haves though
>>58215608Look I'm not a gen 2 hater or anything, nor am I saying there are no good gen 2 pokemon but there are a lot of bad ones. I actually really like their designs and wish some of them didn't need the evolution they got but most dont even have a stat that goes above 100.
>>58215524you mean like in every single region ever released?
>>58214183And their teams look like shit>>58214212This is much better thematically
>>58215243I'm just wondering, were you overleveled?
>>58216682Yeah, quite a lot in the main games, though less so in Gens 5 and 7. Colo and XD I had to be overleveled to stand a chance.
>>58216682I only used one Pokémon so I did become overleveled quite quickly, there is not a good way of avoiding being overleveled playing like this. >>58216693Wait did I make this post? I am pretty sure I did not but I do not disagree with this post at all.
>>58216693>>58216693Yeah I didn’t make that first post, weirdAnyways, XD is considerably easier at the start, and the start is always the hardest part of a solo run because you are not overleveled and have one Pokémon. So XD was no problem for me. Colo proved more difficult at the start.
>>58214107Tyranitar, Skarmory and Blissey were all S-tier back then tho
