I think they are some of the best designs ever but. . .

They really dropped the ball lorewise with them. They are all clearly meant to be serperate creatures. There should be a single mouse that can be male or female, then when it evolves into Tande it loses the gender because your mouse found a mate and is now male and female. Then when it evolved again it still has no gender because they just had kids that could be either gender.

Tande/Hold you would just be one of the mice and someone else would have to be the others or they would just be originally Pokémon and you are suddenly possessing one part
