Wait! Mega Sceptile with Shed Tail with be a thing in Champions. Now he wants a better ability than Lightingrod like Regenerator, a better special movepool and some version of Nasty Plot.
>>58217415>Snover used Ice Shard>It's super effective >Mega Sceptile fainted
>>58217415Mega Sceptile seriously should have Regenerator. Its tail LITERALLY regenerates as its whole design gimmick. Both Sceptile and Mega Sceptile also want their attacking stats swapped too, but that's even less likely. At least Empoleon had its ability changed, so a starter randomly getting a new ability isn't an outrageous idea.
Shed Tail is wasted on a mega, it's a support move
>>58217440Supporting Mega is not bad. I think is a neat idea. He has powerful Leaf Storm that lowers Sp.Attack, takes the KO and in next turn BOOM Shed Tail. Plus Shed Tail with Regenerator is fun combo.
>>58217415>RegeneratorGive it to base Swampert first
>>58217415Mega Sceptile's whole think is also launching it's tail like a nuke, it being given Regenerator while also receiving Chloroblast would be a godsend.I highly disagree with people's take of making Sceptile a physical attacker, mostly because that really wouldn't fix it, as well as there already being way too many physical Grass starters, Sceptile would just be a worse Meowscarada, I think a fun concept would be a special attacking Sharpness user, Sharpness does boost moves like Air Slash after all, Gamefreak could make a move called Emerald Blade, which is just a special attacking version of Leaf Blade as Sceptile's new signature and that would be great, just add a few bits of extra coverage for Sceptile and it would be fine, I think with the whole Lighting Rod thing the Mega has going for it, it would be funny if Sceptile could get moves like Thunderbolt, actually, why DOESN'T Sceptile learn Draco Meteor?>>58217464Swampert with Regenerator is ungodly broken, I've seen that in a few fangames and it's utterly fucking disgusting.
>>58217415Lightingrod is not a bad ability especially in doubles but I understand is Grass/Dragon, it doesn't really need it. For example the opponent has Miraidon or Raging Bolt and you have Mega Sceptile and Primarina, protects the Primarina plus Mega Sceptile is faster than those mons
>>58217415Then>Megas upgraded the designs of Pokémon Now>Megas downgrade the designs of Pokémon but somehow they become more broken than ever
>>58217415>and some version of Nasty PlotWhat's wrong with Work Up + mixed offense? Grass / Dragon special STAB + Earthquake
>>58217612It gets hard walled by so many popular Pokemon and you're wasting your Mega slot for it too, you absolutely need those EVs invested in just one singular offensive stat and speed investment is extremely important with how common some extremely fast Pokemon are these days.I'm kinda of baffled Sceptile doesn't get Earth Power.
Give Sceptile Draco Meteor
>>58217688I’m shocked Sceptile didn't get it. Did any of the other temporary Dragon Megas get access to it?
>>58217821No
>>58217821No. Not even CHARIZARD. They’re surprisingly consistent and fair with the only dragon types get Draco Meteor rule. Only exceptions as Mew, Arceus, and Silvally
>>58217821No, Charizard and Ampharos didn't get it in XY, which is why nobody should be surprised that Sceptile didn't get it in ORAS.Draco Meteor's whole niche is that only Dragon types can learn it.
>>58217830>Only exceptions as Mew, Arceus, and SilvallyAll of these make sense as side-effects of Draco Meteor being turned into a TM instead of a Move Tutor. Arceus and Silvally had to actually be Dragon while learning it originally, and Mew's "can learn all TM's" clause supercedes Draco Meteor's clause.
>>58217464Naaw. First off, explosive moves just need buffed again. There's been enough power creep that won't be overbearing. It would help too if more explosive moves were introduced, but that's neither here nor there.Damp is pretty much fine as is. Maybe it could reduce fire damage (to replace the now defunct Water Sport) in addition to its normal effect so that it's less situational.
>>58217440What if they just gave basic Sceptile Regenerator as well?Sadly Cyclizar is a single point faster than Sceptile, but basic Sceptile can still perform other functions in addition to Shed Tail + Regenerator.
>>58217474Sceptile should have been Grass/Electric from the start. Then imagine Mega Sceptile with Regenerator and access to Volt Switch and Choloroblast.
>>58217928This would be pretty decent, albeit Sceptile randomly becoming Electric now doesn't really make a lot of sense, during gen 3s beta Sceptile's line was a disjointed mess, with Treecko and Grovyle being two entirely different lines, Grovyle was weirdly enough a beta version of Archeops and it was Rock/Flying, Sceptile would benefit so much from having either of those types, it's nimble and fast as well as having a surprisingly high amount of Flying moves due to how high up it lives in the trees and it also based on a Dromeosaur, so it being related to birds and flying isn't far off either, and it being part Rock makes sense because it's again, based on a Dromeosaur (aka the family that has Raptors like Velociraptor and Utahraptor and quite a few other smaller carnivorous dinosaurs, some of which became the ancestors to birds), so it have this ancient living fossil vibe, Grass/Rock and Grass/Flying aren't the best offensively but just having an extra STAB to throw around does fucking wonders for Sceptile.Despite my long winded tism post, I still do agree it should get a few more Electric moves.
>>58217415I wish we'd get more art of Mega Sceptile Christmas tree
bruh
>>58218111I've actually seen many Grass/Flying Sceptile concepts, and Grass/Rock is what I'd love to see on a regional form. Grass/Flying could also somewhat fit with the weather theme of Gen 3.>Groudon causes Drought, which boosts Blaziken's Fire STAB>Kyogre causes Torrent, which boosts Swampert's Water STAB>Rayquaza causes Air Lock, which doesn't really benefit Sceptile in-game, but matches thematicallyMeanwhile though Grass/Electric would allow Sceptile to benefit from both Drought and Torrent>Instant Solar Beams in the former>100% accurate Thunders in the latter
Mega Sceptile is the coolest Mega
>>58217415I actually kinda like lightning rod for it since it makes mega sceptile nearly impossible to paralyzesure its not the best ability for it but thats valuable on its own for a pokemon with 145 speed
>>58217415I think rather than giving it Nasty Plot and a whole special movepool, it'd be better to just switch its Attack and Special Attack.Sceptile's physical movepool is better than its special movepool and it has Swords Dance.Gamefreak is willing to retcon abilities, and I think retconning base stats would be much less obvious to casual fans.
>>58219518Sceptile getting turned into a physical attacker would just make it a worse Meowscarada or Rilaboom, plus we already have 5 physically focused Grass starters, all of which have far better move selections than Sceptile and way better abilities to boot.It just needs better special coverage and despite it realistically never going to happen outside of it's Mega (not like Dragon is a good STAB these days), a secondary STAB that doesn't suck, plus it's way easier to shut down physical attackers in general. Gamefreak has made an otherwise horribly bad Grass starter good in the past by giving it a tolerably usable niche in giving Serperior Contrary+Leaf Storm, Sceptile just needs a small push to achieve something.
>>58219674Not that Anon, but you make a good case for keeping it Special-focused.Guess the issue is that, since its movepool is so Physical oriented, you'd have to add a LOT of Special moves just for parity. Why go through all that effort adding tons of moves and what-not when just swapping two stats is good enough? One thing though that could work is to introduce a new ability that somehow makes Physical moves use Special Attack.Couple of ways to do it:>Any attacking move uses the Pokemon's highest attacking stat>All Physical attacking moves specifically use the Pokemon's Special Attack stat, but remain Physical>The Pokemon's Attack and Special Attack stats are combined and used for both Physical and Special Attacks>All Physical attacking moves become Special moves.
Why does mega Sceptile shoot fucking christmas trees? Who asked for this, and why?
>>58217415But I like Lighting rod on it.It makes it unique.
>>58220067>Guess the issue is that, since its movepool is so Physical oriented, you'd have to add a LOT of Special moves just for parity.Earth Power alone would go a long way.And don't tell me it doesn't fit Sceptile, fucking Sunflora can learn it.
>>58220206Sunflora has roots for feet. Sceptile on the other hand has always been described as a primarily arboreal Pokémon.I'm sure you could find other examples of Earth Power being given to less justifiable Pokémon, but that shouldn't be used to continue a bad practice.
There is no fixing mega sceptile without at least two of these:1) buff grass offensively on the type chart2) change its stat spread3) Massively change its movepool4) Giving it a good abilityThere are just way too many things going against it. Grass being the second worst offensive type on the type chart. Dragon being a meh offensive type on top if its non-existent synergy with grass. Mismatch between movepool and stat spread. Fucking lightning rod on a mon 4x resisting electric already. If any grass starter wanna make it offensively, they need some broken shit in their arsenal like leafstorm+contrariant or grassy surge+grassy glide
>>58220166It's a conifer. Conifers are found in forests. It's the forest pokemon. Stop overthinking this.
>All of these retarded fanfic abilities instead of just making it physical
>>58220441Or you're Meowscarada and not only get Protean but also get absurdly retarded coverage like a 120 power Ice move in Triple Axel just because.Seriously look up Meowscarada's movepool and compare it to Sceptile's, THE FUCKING CAT SOMEHOW HAS BETTER SPECIAL COVERAGE THAN SCEPTILE and it's statspread is nearly identical, except it's a physical attacker instead and 3 points faster, as if Gamefreak wanted to spite the poor gecko raptor specifically.>>58220567You turn Sceptile physical and slightly tune it's stats and it's literally just Meowscarada, hence why I brought it up in a few past posts, Sceptile would not cut it on the physical side when squared up against the other physical Grass starters, Torterra has Shell Smash and STAB earthquake, Chesnaught is not great, but it is a good glue mon that can completely shut down certain Pokemon thanks to Bulletproof, Gengar being a good example, Decidueye has a better type, it's generally pretty bad, but it hits really hard and can actually pull off guess games if it's physical or special, Hisuian Decidueye is a fantastic physical attacker thanks to Scrappy and it's bonkers signature move, Rilaboom hits fairly hard and has amazing utility and Meowscarada is just Sceptile but better in pretty much every way imaginable outside of niche stuff like having Dragon coverage. Sceptile becoming physical would not fix it, AT ALL.
>>58220441Well put. I still hope Sceptile gets something to redeem it competitively.
What really needs>Skeledirge has Torch Song a special move to increases Sp.Attack anytime. So how about a Dragon move that increased anytime Sp.Attack with name Draconic Rocket >More set up moves >Ability like Regenerator or Contrary>A new Grass version of Volt Switch>Weather Ball
