What was the point of introducing these and Paradox Pokemon in the same generation? They fulfill the exact same role as regional forms (ignoring that SV also had regional forms).

>>58225695Bc they've been content with just remixing old pokemon for a decade now, whether its through regionals, convergents, paradoxs, megas, gigantamax, or whatever they come up with next.I definetly enjoyed regionals when they debuted but I find the whole thing so tired now, every new dex has to have a dozen or two slots just for redone old Pokemon, and usually they're never done with the kind of effort a new design would have.

Like Sandshrew could conceivably adjust to living in frozen mountains instead of warm ones, Meowth could conceivably adjust to becoming nocturnal and/or becoming tougher to become seafaring. But it's kinda hard to explain how a mole becomes an eel or how a jellyfish becomes a mushroom. So instead they just went for the convergent evolution angle.

I think they realized they might wanna start future proofing a bit when they realized there were now three separate meowth variants they'd need to bring back every time they put meowth in a game, one of whom even has a different evolution....Course this didn't really stop them from giving Tauros THREE other variants that same gen, but hey at least Paldean Tauros kicks ass across all three versions.
