what was the mindset back then of refering to the feature as "nickname" instead of just "name"? Wouldn't "Would you like to name your Pokémon?" create a better emotional connection?Pic attached is just because I find it interesting
>>58230383They probably didn't think much of it. Anyway your pic lacks the "Nounverber" category.
All of my Pokemon are named after>Professional wrestlers>Food>United States cities>Wouldn't blahblah make a more emotional connectionI don't think so. Functionally you're still doing the same, you still give it a name. It's identical.
>>58230383None for mythology names?I that might be one of the most common.
>>58230383I like nuzlockes with naming themes. One theme was my favorite Survivor castaways and another was Supernatural characters, the TV series, not the genre as a whole. Thanks for reading my mini blog
>>58230383Where do "Dux Bellorum" and "Bellaphim" fit on that chart?
>>58230383I've been letting my girlfriend name them all. Some good gems, like Tailface the Girafarig, Chisel the rock ruff, and a lot of others.
this dude thought about naming his team after phone apps but not popular characters? And I don’t mean regular human-sounding ones, I mean shit like Gandalf or Obi-Wan
>>58230383Pokemon presumably name their children similar to how we do, but because we don't speak Pokemon we can't figure out what their real name is, so we give them nicknames based on our own preferencesEither that or their species name is meant to be their actual name, and they use other methods for individual identity
>>58230588PMD implies the latter. It’s funny seeing PMD OCs going sparkledog tier with physical traits, when the actual games would have shit like Ursaring x2, both generic Ursaring named Ursaring and with distinctive personalities to discern them.
Can someone give me some good nicknames for both male and female Serperior? I always just defaulted to Prince...
whoever made that op image has off-the-charts autism levels
>>58230606>Noodles McTool>Mackenzie>Slick Rick>The Scorpion>Serperiorer>Dick Dale and the Deltones>Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's a Giant Grass Snake>I Raped and Killed a Woman in Pensacola, Florida in 1987. This Isn't a Joke. >Regal>Pesto
>>58230606>>58230673>MalePrincess>FemalePrince
>>58230606Male => King CharlesFemale => Marie-Antoinette
I nickname every single pokemon I catch. Sometimes I have themes [for example, all spidermons get Alice in Wonderland names and all Haxorus family mons get Swan Lake names and no I couldn't tell you why] but at this point aside from mons I plan on actively using in some capacity its just whatever pops into my mind first so its a lot of Adjective-y or Verb-y.I think my magnum opus is Myco Tyson my catcher breloom though.
>>58230383>what was the mindset back then of refering to the feature as "nickname" instead of just "name"?that's a good questionyears ago you would have likely gotten an intelligent answer from here, but not anymore
>>58230383So far I've done Dictators, Pharmacuitical drugs and Street drugs, and Sam Hyde's "names" from the Peanut Arbuckle sketch. When I was a kid my mon's were mostly unnamed.
>>58230383Because "naming" implies ownership and an inability for a pokemon to form an identity of its own, and it's been established countless times that people don't "own" pokemon nor are they supposed to"Nicknaming" on the other hand is how you address someone without imposing on their established identity (nicknames can even derived from their identity altogether instead of overwriting it) they're what (you) call an equal as a friendly casual thing
sometimes i'll name them after animals like "DOG" "HORSE" "SNAKE"
