This is a GROUND-TYPE thread. It's a place where you post about GROUND-TYPES because Earthquake has never not been the best move in the game.

>What's your favorite Ground-type?
>Is Ground your favorite type? If so, how come?
>Ever do a mono ground run?
>Ever build a Ground team for monotype?
>Who's the best Ground specialist?
>>
Also when are we gonna get a Ground/Fairy? It's the only unused Ground-type combo left.
>>
>>58230970
I never really got why Nidoking and Nidoqueen are ground types desu.

Because it's Baragon. They based it on a film Kaiju and Baragon's big schtick is that he's really good at tunneling and causes earthquakes.

In-game reason, uhh...something something Moon Stone mutation.

Ground is a type I don't think much about but looking back at my charts I keep to remember favorites, it seems to be Gliscor. Both are my favorites, definitely, but I'll always have a soft spot for the Gen I Kaiju Rhinos. I still don't understand why they committed to Nidorina going sterile though, especially since it's just annoying in a gameplay sense and it's never brought up in the actual Pokedexes despite all of their information they've put in those over the years

>>58230977
Types were a later development thing so they were a bit looser with what they gave to certain Pokemon back then. Lots of the earlier designs were basically just slapped onto either Ground, Poison or Normal since it was seen as "realistic"
>>
>>58230970
>Gligar, Clodsire and Gliscor are close though
>No, but overall I find it to have a lot of great designs
>never liked mono ground, feels too strong of a type to be interesting.
>Giovani, even beside nostalgia the type's specialist have rarely stood out. I like Rika but that's because she's hot.
>>
It's my favorite type. I've done mono ground runs for almost every main Pokemon game now, I think. Gligar is like Pikachu to me.

Best game to mono ground is BW2, followed up probably by Platinum. BW2 crucially lacks Hippowdon but you get twelve fully evolved grounds that are all solid.
>>
I like Clay. He embodies the type in a way Giovanni doesn't. Just a big, wide, no-nonsense salt of the earth kinda guy. Look at that sensible but eye-catching watch.

https://youtu.be/FESg8fe0wQs?si=F7L3AV92KeoSEoFM

And the official music of all ground types.
>>
>>58230970
Gliscor
It might just be, a lot of my fav mons are Ground
Nah, but next time I do a bi-yearly series replay I might do mono run in Plat
Giovanni or Clay
>>
I like whatever this thing is.
>>
>What's your favorite Ground-type?

I want to say Flygon, but I also like Sandslash, both Nido lines Krookodile, and Sandaconda.

>Is Ground your favorite type?

Nope, that would probably be Dragon. I don't dislike the type, though.

>Ever do a mono ground run?
>Ever build a Ground team for monotype?

Nope.

>Who's the best Ground specialist?

Can't say that I've ever really thought about that.
>>
Diggersby is underrated. Huge Power shouldn't have been a hidden ability. It's like a Ground/Normal Azumarill but it's so hard to use in a normal playthrough because Huge Power is what makes it decent.
>>
>>
Peak design
>>
My favorite ground boi since Sandslash.

I like how it has the tools and stats to be almost godlike, but not exactly.
>>
>>58231188
Good choice.

I like its gloomy expression and the fact that it's appropriately huge. Like as big as a real draft horse. They make a lot of Pokemon too small.

It's been a monster in every playthrough I've ever used it in.

>What's your favorite Ground-type?
sandslash, most huggable ground type by far and that's a hill i can't die on yet because somehow that mon (which is covered in spikes) still doesn't get rough skin for some reason
some contenders include gastrodon, nidoking, zygarde, groudon, torterra, garchomp, swampert, great tusk, camerupt, excadrill, and krookodile, in roughly that order
>Is Ground your favorite type? If so, how come?
yes because i like earthquaking things and because a lot of mons i like are ground type
and likewise I like a lot of ground types, with there not really being any ground types i actually hate at worst
beyond that there's surprisingly a lot of diversity and versatility within the ground type, without sacrificing the typing's reputation of being able to take hits and smash things in response with earthquake/earth power
>Ever do a mono ground run?
yeah, reborn
>Ever build a Ground team for monotype?
i don't think i ever played in any monotype format somehow
>Who's the best Ground specialist?
idk

>>
I like every Water/Ground Pokemon but I think Seismitoad is my favorite of the bunch. I like its big, droopy eyes and it's wobbly smile.

>because somehow that mon (which is covered in spikes) still doesn't get rough skin for some reason

It really should. That or Iron Barbs. I hate it when they give a Pokemon ONLY abilities that work under certain weather conditions. You have to be running sand to get the most out of Sandslash.

I love sand teams but sometimes I just wanna throw Sandslash in somewhere.
>>

rough skin for sandslash, iron barbs for snowslash since that one actually has metallic scales, and yeah everything you said also applies to the alolan form since really it's virtually the same besides typing, preferred weather, and slightly more minmaxed stats, which I don't think can get any more minmaxed without sacrificing something important because 450 BST is pathetic by several generations ago' standards
while we're at it get rid of the shitty inconsistent at best weather evasion abilities from both forms and give tough claws instead
the mon best known for having huge claws and "slash" in its name should have tough claws, it's incredibly obvious
and with those simple changes you can have your sandslash be good at slashing things or deterring physical attackers in addition to keeping the option to be fast under weather
also adding ability diversity helps avoid weird situations involving the mon getting banned from some smogon tier it's not good in because it happened to have no legal ability, like with alolan sandshrew being NUBL in generation 8

I do wish that GSC had Giovanni as one of the Elite Four members as the Ground Type specialist since that game has none
Having the regular Rhydon, Nidoking and Nidoking kaiju trio but with Donphan and Steelix as his 2 last
Replacing Bruno because he's just the same as gen 1 and Giovanni being the last trainer before the Champion
You could argue it doesn't make any sense story or character wise but I think it would been a cool moment and the gen 2 elite four members boring and forgetable anyway
>>

>GF has to be saving it for something special.
they give unused types to literal shitmon and don't revisit single or two-use types given to literal shitmon ALL the time, it'll be some random 1-stage 405 bst mon based on those stupid holiday gnomes with a gimmick that changes its ability based on terrain and that'll be all you get for another 20 years.

but Stunfisk could have benifited from an evolution

Megas are a popular topic of discussion atm.
How much do you like our current designs? What are your hopes for Mega Excadrill and Mega Zygarde?
I don't think any of the mega designs are standout. Swampert would be B if it didn't have such a weird posture. I already preferred Onix's design to Steelix's, and Mega-Steelix still trends in the opposite direction for me. I don't actively dislike it though. Garchomp is fine, but unremarkable. Camerupt and Groudon are the best of the lot, but I don't really love either.

It was in gen 3. It had a lot of mons I liked at the time like the Nidos, Onix, Marowak, Gligar, Swampert, and Flygon. Donphan's minigame in Stadium 2 was also fun.

Mannnn. It's still a ground-type in my heart. I've done mono-ground runs with a Pupitar strapped with an eviolite the whole way through just to stay honest. He gets to evolve in post-game.

Mega Swampert is an A or an S for me. I love it's heavy, lurking posture. It looks like it's weighed down by the weight of its own arms. Flawless design. The only thing I hate is that it only gets swift swim. It's a great ability but I have to run rain.

Steelix is an easy A or S too. Love it. Welcome on my mono-ground sand teams. Love the crystallization that's happening with its body.

Those are the only Ground megas I use. Very excited for Mega Excadrill. High hopes, expecting a new mega ace for me.

Ground type best type!
>What's your favorite Ground-type?
Cubone, but Sandslash, Garchomp, Krookodile and a ton of others are high up on the list as well-
>Is Ground your favorite type? If so, how come?
Yeah, I think a lot of it is aesthetics, I just really like browns oranges and yellows. Also there's a certain hardiness to most of them, that I like.
>Ever do a mono ground run?
No, but I usually allow myself to have multiple ground types, whereas I try to keep it to one offs for every other type
>Ever build a Ground team for monotype?
no
>Who's the best Ground specialist?
generic ruin maniac. Archeologist is a cool vibe for ground trainers. But I also like the ones with a more wild west vibe.

We need more Ground/Psychic mons. Claydol is one of the few support mons available to the typing.
Also, I've never been more confident in suggesting that Claydol needs alternative abilities to Levitate and one of the abilities it should get is Well-Baked Body. Purely on a thematic basis, I can't think of a more fitting ability. But it also happens to be pretty good. You could play mind games with your opponent over what immunity it has.

ground/fairy ninetales variant that sets sand when
some good reasons:
>ground type's only fully evolved sand setter is hippowdon and there should be some more variety/redundancy in case hippowdon gets dexcut
>it'd make a cool parallel to the ice type regional forms of sandslash and ninetales, which abuse and set hail respectively, so why not have a sand version of that duo as well
>desert foxes are cute
it could have big ears like a fennec fox too
maybe it could also have its attack and special attack swapped to be a physical counterpart to the special attacking regular/alolan forms. besides foxes are predatory animals, making it a physical attacker would make sense
also on the topic of ground type variants of KANTOOOOOOOOO mons, I think regular sandslash should get a buff that'll actually matter by making it part fighting type and replacing sand veil with tough claws and scrappy because i think great tusk at home would be a fun idea for buffing it
