>>58236305even from my place of bias as a graphic designer with an intense interest in limited color palettes, i think you're way off the mark with the color trimming on hawlucha and malamar. if hawlucha's mask used colors from its original palette the mega would essentially lose the only thing that distinguishes it from its original design. even if it would be prettier to look at, in its current state it looks like a falconry hood which a) is a clever twist on the mon's inspiration and more crucially b) is an object that does not have to match the colors of the bird wearing it. i don't particularly feel the need to explain why this also applies to the luchador aspect of the mon, i feel like that part is self evident. with malamar, the whole point of the mega is to amplify the cuttlefish color hypnosis angle of the design, which is something the animals do by flashing the entire spectrum of colors, not just a visually appealing 3 color gradient. the rainbow is literally what makes the design work. likewise, if the head tentacles weren't lopsided and off-kilter it wouldn't look like a massive brain, seriously undermining alien-supervillian element of the design as well. i don't agree with you on dragonite or victreebel either but i can let that slide because either way it's jusy nitpicks, but i think your suggestions for hawlucha and malamar in particular would seriously defeat the intent of their designs, much to their detriment, all in the name of trimming down their color palettes, which isn't always the right move, even if it often is.
