what if pokemon could be double-typed. Not dual-typed, but having the same type twice. Like an electric/electric mon, or dark/dark, or psychic/psychic, and it would double STAB, resistances, and weaknesses. Seems straightforward and pretty reasonable, imo, for some mons to be "especially" elemental, or whatever. I could imagine the regis all being double-typed because of them being literal golems. Tornadus too, probably. And maybe some random mons that are more elemental, like Tangela's line, Munna's line, Tynamo's line, the Hitmons maybe, Vanniluxe becoming Ice/Ice after evolving cus of the 2 heads lmao, Hippopotas line, Grimer's line, maybe a couple others. Might be cool. What do you think?

>>58244566this argument has never made sense
>>58244224Imagine if Mega Aggron became Steel/Steel and got 4x weaknesses to Ground and Fighting again, LMAO. And a 4x weakness to Fire. Wait, I wonder if Filter would make it worth it? It powers moves down by 25% so that would make it, what, 3x effective? Might be good for all those double resists actually.

>>58244224>Tangela's line>Munna's line>Tynamo's line>the Hitmons>Vanniluxe>Hippopotas line>Grimer's linewow, these actually feel like reasonable ways to distinguish them. Gives stuff like musharna and muk a way to stand out from hypno and alolan muk, makes vanniluxe have a reason to exist, makes eelektross's meme status way more interesting, and hippowdon being double Ground would not only improve it but seems so thematically appropriate. VERY cool. And the regis too, those make perfect sense to be doubled up.
name a Rock/Rock mon, quick
>>58245835RegirockAlso Gigalith could work too, imagine if it got double the spdef boost from sandstream
I wouldn't mind more elemental mons occasionally anyway. Make a slime that's water/water, a will o wisp that's fire/fire, a fern springing from the ground that's grass/grass, a proper ethereal incorporeal spectre that's ghost/ghost, another gremlin/goblin critter like morgrem or sableye that's just straight up evil that's dark/dark, and we definitely need SOMETHING that's a bug/bug, idk what, maybe a "true bug" based regional bug, maybe something like an aphid.
>>58246520how do we not have a slime pokemon already

>>58247226>thread conceptPokemon can currently be mono-typed or dual-typed. What if they could be 'dual-typed,' but with the same type for both primary and secondary types? How would certain mechanics like Adaptability, Sandstorm/Hail spdef/def raises, or whatever else be affected by Pokemon having "double types" by default?>teraA gimmick where, once per battle, you can alter a pokemon's existing type to be a single type of whichever you had selected, preserving the Pokemon's initial 1-2 types for STAB boosts while providing either a third STAB type or a boost to the Pokemon's existing STAB type if it's the same as the one you tera'd into.>These are not the same thing at all and you're a moron if you can't tell the difference. Literally the only similarity is>you can get a higher STAB bonus for both - maybe, if that's how it would work for double-types.
>>58247387>no you see it's somewhat different!Yes that's the point. Your idea is already touched by Tera. Not exactly like that, but it's already done. You are a retard.
>>58247420Tera is a mid-battle mechanic that can be applied to every pokemon that can raise the power of one of your types if you swap your current typing to be that one typethis is if you could encounter wild pokemon with this innately, with all that entails:>another 18 type combos that "haven't been made yet">weaknesses and resistances doubled; electric/electric is 4x weak to ground, takes 1/4x from electric, flying, steel. Not just 2x and 1/2.>STAB can either be doubled, applied twice, or only applied once based on how it was implemented (for your small brain, that means either 2x like tera, or 1.5x • 1.5x which makes 2.25x (which is the current tera+adaptability boost, iirc), or staying at 1.5x)>how this might make certain mons more distinct, like helping to separate similar lines like munna from drowzee, where one is Psychic/Psychic and the other is Psychic, or give kantonian grimer a slight buff to make it more comparable to alolan muk; Poison/Poison compared to Poison/Dark.You are genuinely mentally deficient if you can't grasp this obvious, fundamentally different idea. You don't even have to like it, I just want you to stop being too stupid to understand it.

>>58247606Really? Why? I can't imagine it would cause that many problems. What do you think would be annoying?
I thought Tera made the 'mon monotype? Like instead of Ludicolo being grass / water it just turns it to [electric] or whatever the fuck. Does it add a third type, what the fuck does Tera do exactly?
>>58247687Tera completely replaces your type. Ludicolo goes from Grass/Water to mono-Electric. But, it still lets you keep STAB from your previous types, so Ludicolo can still use Grass and Water moves with the extra power. That's pretty much it. You can tera into a type you already are, too, which is where a couple retards are getting confused. If Ludicolo tera'd Grass, he'd go from Grass/Water to mono-Grass, and because he has STAB on Grass already, Tera gives him extra power for Grass, so he can do 2x instead of 1.5x damage with Grass moves. Still keeps the 1.5x on Water. No idea why so many anons itt have been misunderstanding it, it's pretty simple (unless we're talking about tera-stellar, that's pure nonsense.)
>>58247582>waaaaSo you can't read, that explains a lot.
>>58247673Well, what counts as a Dragon/Dragon? Regidrago? That thing is more of a Dragon than Dragonite? Or a Bug/Bug. What would make a specific bug more Bug than current Bug types?
>>58244840>I DON'T CARE>well I dunno anon you cared enough to respond to what I said>THAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE
>>58247769idk regidrago, being a construct made of draconic energy, makes sense to be double dragon imo. And it's not like a combo not making sense has ever stopped gf from making that type, right? Like why is Alolan Sandslash Ice/Steel? What does a Normal/Dark-type mean and why are there so many now, you know? What even is a Normal/Dragon? So idk, making a particularly buggy bug seems pretty easy to make a bug/bug imo.
