Linear, turn-based titles are a relic of the past.
The Pokémon series must progress, giving the players what they want:

They wouldn't put this effort into this "demo"/"spinoff" just to scrap most of the mechanics next-gen.

I might add both Legends games had differing battle mechanics, but ewe all know the BW remake IS going to be trad battle engine, thus with all likelihood, Gen 10 will have it also and once again the Legend battle engine will be left behind in Gen 9. That Champions is sticking to the tried and tested battle engine is yet another point in the "trad engine returns" column.
