Nuzlockes used to be about a personal story between player and game, and many would share these stories in artistic fashion. It was mostly an artistic thing desu.
It has in recent years been depleted of that and now the main focus is the challenge. So it went from emotional art culture to autism culture.

if you play fr/lg without the nostalgia glasses it really shines through that this game was quickly assembled by gamefreak to complete the gen 3 experience because of the missing mons from r/s/e

it feels slower than the originals despite the qol, the abilities are pointless 90% of the time because most of gen 1 pokemon got placeholder abilities and you are sometimes reminded of it by poison point and static being annoying

sevii islands are extremely empty, why are so many johto mons exclusive to altering cave which is a cancelled event? you really can encounter high level fearows in the end game areas for some god forsaken reason

also dont get me started on version exclusive stuff, some mons are harder to get in fr/lg than in the entirety of r/b/y for some arbitrarily reason. why is slowpoke a version exclusive???

I wouldn't say "In Recent years", In fact i'd say it happened fairly quickly on the slide of "OG Nuzlocke" to present day, and the issue was streamers accelerated it, and obviously they don't want a personal story, they want to spam "content", plus with how Encounters are A LOT of Nuzlockes can end up similar anyway because, particularly in older games, there is overlap between mons on routes that often have higher encounter rate anyway and then the Nuzlocker just actively overgrind to be "safe" cause the don't wanna lose their Iron Man run/Carry Mon.

The only good Nuzlocke story was the first one anyway.

Solo Runs can be neat, but only in the perspective of a larger project that actively compares shit and even then it can be samey if the majority of mons have the same cheese tactic (OH BOY, I LOVE BADGE BOOST!) but there is some mons that perform better then people think or have weirdass non-intuitive tactics on the table at some point.

It also doesn't help that Radical Reddit happened in said recent years, further exacerbating the situation because now nuzlocking was about applying it to its absolute most extreme in bullshit romhacks, since the mainline games were "too easy" on Nuzlocke and thus offered no entertainment value without ungodly handicaps.
