The textures are very repetetive. It really doesn't help that they chose to depict patterns inside objects that repeat themselves in a pattern (windows in this, or mountain and water sections in the previous game).

I think the main issue are the models. They're too low poly, and I don't think they ever made any high polies for baking to begin with and instead drew all details by hand.

It's cheaper that way. The game is mass produces slob.

I mean if Digimon made a game that was basically Pokemon then I'd probably get it. I honestly love the evolution trees in Digimon.
Digimon World was great, just the one Digimon though. I just want a fun RPG where I can raise a different team of monsters and swap them out.
Unfortunately Pokemon is the only company in that niche, probably because they sue the hell out of anyone that steps on them detracting attempts.

You know, its interesting how even though Shitendo is trying to patent being able to ride a fictional video game creature that Game Freak is completely fucking lazy when it comes to riding Pokemon. It's always a select few Pokemon as well.

You are the one cherrypicking.
You are comparing one high-angle shot with focus on the Digimons (they focus on backgrounds in other part of the trailers), showing as the background nothing but the ground to not distract you from the focus, with cold lights deliberately chosen to create a sense of unease, with a shot displaying the background and the depth of it for a new dungeon introducing for the first time the underground of Lumiose City, that you are expected to explore (underground tunnel in Digimon is barely 5 minutes long as you cannot obtain new Digimons there, it's a zone for the battle tutorial), with Pokemon to not have an empty background and warmer lights (warmer lights are more appealing than colder lights, but cold lights have their uses). There are still things to criticize on the Pokemon pictures: pipes are octogonal, Klefki has white reflection despite the light being more on the orange spectrum, Inkay is way too bright for a Pokemon in being in a dark zone, making him feel added, even if that's probably not the case, ground still seem to be a jpeg with no normal or bump maps.

Not saying that the picture you used for Digimon is perfect either (shadow could have been sharper for one, but at the same time, Pokemons in your picture have none), but your comparison is unfair and cherrypicking.

OP made a fair comparison of two pictures where the focus is on the entrance of the city, light day for both, same angle for both, the only difference is that Digimon picture is in-game as you can see the inputs in the lower part of the screen, while Pokemon's picture is a selected shot of the game

I've tried digimon and dragon quest monsters and almost every other creature collecting game sans monster hunter stories and pokemon might not be the best but it's still way better than most of these franchises. Yo-kai watch and fossil fighters are the only ones that actually got my attention

There isn't so much to talk about in the chosen picture but if you want me to criticize the Digimon demo, I can. Some ads uses low poly textures in some stores in Tokyo and there are bad reflections from buildings (there are two armored vehicles in front of a building with glass doors, you cannot see those vehicles in the reflection, and even without the vehicles, it seems the reflection is shifted a bit, you can't see the sidewalks but seems to be in front of the intersection).

If you're saying that because my post was long, know that I tend to be always verbose when I write about something. I have the time to choose my words so I try to be as precise as possible, using examples and add things here and there, read myself and repeat. That's sometimes a problem, and not here, because there is a limit of 2000 characters (I know that all too well), I already had a 2-3 people complaining to me about it, even a teacher from my university.

So no, I didn't had my nerve got piched, I just wrote the way I write.
