soooo why where triple battles abandoned again? it seems like their pretty interesting and allow for cool team compositions
>>
who the hell is damien
>>
>>58252559
Prease understand, small indie developer, having 3 pokemon AND a trainer on screen at once would be too hard so we had to get rid of them for SM ;-;
>>
>>58252559
i don't really know (laughs)
>>
>>58252559
it's just doubles except you instantly lose if you lost the pokemon order coin flip

garbage gimmicky shit no serious competitive player actually played
>>
>>58252628
>garbage gimmicky shit no serious competitive player actually played
but enough about Gen 6+ gimmicks
>>
>>58252628
Oversimplifying it. It was nice to have in small amounts in the story. Sky battles were dope too. Gimmicky short and sweet battles between friends are fun too
>>
The real crime was scraping inverse battles.
>>
Too hard to balance with all the modern mechanics for little payoff

>>58252628
The fuck are you talking about, there's nothing coinflippy about triples, it's easily the most skill based format with how many positioning options there are
>>
>>58252559
Triple battle was a boring concept
6vs6 now that's something that could be interesting
>>
>>58252718
>6vs6
How would it work
>>
>>58252637
This. Imo triple/rotational, inverse and maybe even sky battles are more fun and tied to the combat than "press button for this epic animation" like megas, z moves or gigamax. despite appearances i actually liked the tera more
>t. never played VGC or competitive
>>
>>58252559
They just don't mesh well in Pokemon compared to doubles. The Pokemon in the middle is just getting dogpilled and dying while the other two on the edge have little interaction.
>>
>>58252717
>it's easily the most skill based format with how many positioning options there are
I don’t think triples was ever explored seriously on a competitive level it was mostly just people fucking around with sturdy Shedinja and other funny things. If you forced it to be comp it’d probably just be perish trap and such nonsense
>>
>>58252559
>why where triple battles abandoned again?
too much lag
20 fps or less
>>
>>58252717
>there's nothing coin flippy about coin flipping if you should put your pokemon left or right
>>
>>58252559
Starting from Sun and Moon, the trainer models appear during battles. This makes every trainer battle require more processing power since you have to load 4 models instead 2 in single battles and 6 instead 4 in doubles. They would have to load up to 8 models in triple battles and this is why the feature vanished from SM and didn't come back. Hordes also vanished together with triples. That said, Z-A shows that they could get triple battles to work now since there's a 4P battle royale mode and hordes are back.
>>
>>58252559
I vaguely recall this led to some really miserable battles involving stalls or some cases where battles REALLY dragged out
>>
>>58252559
Futureproofed high poly models on 3DS + trainers shown in battle starting in Gen 7. Should've returned in Gen 8.
>>58252751
Triples, but with front and back rows.
>>
>>58252751
Entire team on the field at once
Everyone can attack everyone
>>
>>58252559
The Shitch Poo would literally blow apart trying to run triple battles
>>
>>58252559
I would like them better if you could hit anyone from anywhere, aka just doubles with one more. but no they wanted it to be different and "balanced" enough to be worth including.
>>
Triple battles sucked, but rotation battles were awesome.
>>
>>58252559
Lag. The 3DS games lagged a lot.
>>
>triple battles
>rotation battles
>sky battles
>hordes
>all gone
holy shit how has the series regressed as its technical limits expanded
>>
>>58253172
This. The game would explode with stuff like hordes
>>
How come hordes only came back in PLA when I get gangbanged by 4 alpha Garchomp?
>>
>>58252559
they never emphasized them enough to begin with. there are maybe two memorable triple battles in the games they appear in, the charles fight is the only big one
compare that to tate & liza, the teamup with steven, the sinnoh traveling buddies, and just the sheer quantity of mandatory double battle fights in gens 3 and 4.
>>
>>58252559
they made the 3DS lag too hard and got left behind in the dust of history, simple as
>>
I feel like at this point in the series wild encounters should be randomly between 1 and 6 and you should be able to choose a preferred format when battling any given trainer.
>>
>>58253351
>I feel like at this point in the series wild encounters should be randomly between 1 and 6
i will accept this only if you can throw pokeballs without needing to whittle the horde down to a single pokemon
>>
I really would have liked Triple Battles to have never left the series after their introduction, like with how Double Battles never left after being introduced. Triple Battles are so fun with three Pokémon at once, resulting in needing to manage positioning and range.

Also, it would have been good if the Wonder Launcher was kept too.
>>
>>58253367
of course, this should go without saying

Rotation should be the standard format for VGC
