Do you want more visual variation within individual Pokemon species, or is it a good thing every e.g. Bulbasaur looks exactly the same (save for shinies)

there should be multiple alternate color palettes that while rare are much more common than shinies and they should ditch the gay sparkle effect. Some palettes would be more common in different areas like white ones in snowy biomes, tan in sandy biomes, etc. The wide color options will inject alot of personality into teams and individual pokemon, and more importantly it'll fuck over shiny hunters by making their super special 5000 resets natural shiny weavile into a common occurance, dealing a fatal blow to shiny autism.

there should have been individual variation in species since at least gen 6. It is ludicrously easy to make 3 models - a baseline, a "minimum extreme", and a "maximum extreme" and have the game select different points of the model to place somewhere in that range. Can also include leaves/feathers/spikes with a random placement filter very easily and slight individualistic variations, like sugimori eyes vs slightly bubblier ones or whatever and have them be selected at random, too. This is something that games have been doing since 6th gen... as in since 1999. Color schemes are the easiest option too because they can literally just feed the texture through a +/-1% rgba filter and have alt color schemes be baked in alternatives that can ALSO have those variants. It would be trivial for the largest media franchise in the world, but alas, game freak is simply a small indie company.

The examples in the OP are pretty weird, but I liked where Stadium did where the mons had different colorations based on their nicknames, sometimes subtle and sometimes really blatant. It would be interesting to see wild mons naturally having that kind of range in color even though I guess it'd defeat the purpose of shinies.

>defeat the purpose of shinies
Yeah the color ranges in Stadium 2 did make the shinies much less interesting aside from the sparkle but it make the Pokemon feel more alive with those minor variations (instead of cookie cutter copies of each other)

Every individual Pokemon looking identical to its species was huge for the branding, it's a big reason the designs are so iconic, if you had multiple variations competing for attention within each species then it'd be a nightmare making merch and toys
>prefer the spiky black Bulbasaur over the red sleepy one and the yellow grumpy one
>TPC can only afford to make merch of the baseline one otherwise they'd have to make 20+ combos for each species and a ton would go unsold
>refuse to buy Bulbasaur merch because there's no spiky black one
>had the variations not existed, I would've been satisfied with the baseline one

pokemon polished crystal does this. wish more romhacks do this too

Who the fuck wants variation?
We just want ALL the Pokémon in the Pokémon game.

>TPC can only afford
Stop.

That's today, I'm talking historically when they'd be making budget-conscious calls, technically being able to pay for something doesn't mean you can afford it when your goal is maximizing profits and tons of the less popular variants would go unsold

I want the slight hue shifts from stadium to be the default, and pokemon with patterning should get the spinda treatment.
>>
>>58254827
I genuinely hope they do something like this someday. If Spinda can have multiple random patterns, so can every other mon

I can accept 2 palettes only for species but really wish Pokeballs could be personalized and I don't mean those cases they used with stickers for sparkle effects. What I mean is letting us design a Poke Ball pattern even share and download them from other players. Make it have a base catch rate of a common Poke Ball so the other Balls don't lose their intended utilities but give us that choice. Maybe you could apply it to a "Blank Ball" and create them with resources at an Item Printer like the one SV introduced. I'm sure many players would be happy to have certain colors or patterns even on regular run of the mill filler chaffmon. If full design freedom is too much freedom because it could be used offensively, at least railroad some patterns and let us have a color wheel to choose from for coloring several parts
