Massive update to their stats, abilities, movepool expansion.Regional Variants are cool for lore, but don't do anything for the original mon. Like Galar Farfetch'd, Zigzagoon, or Hisui Quilfish. Regionals can go into Pokemon Home, Megas cannot. Megas do not give me the satisfaction of completing a living form origin dex.
Fact: The only reason people like megas as much as they do is because following gimmicks like Z-Moves and Gigantamaxes are shit and made Megas look better by comparison. In an ideal world, all of them would have been dropped and regionals would have been expanded on in better ways.

Mons that are already developed and detailed enough are better off getting alts/regionals, which feel less like a retcon of the og design, and more like a celebration of it with a different flavor.Generally, regionals for mons that i like and megas for those i don't would be ideal.
Both suck, give us new pokemon.
