They will never have another protagonist return. Being "silent" has become Red's thing, so it'd be redundant to do the same with another protagonist, and making them talk would mean giving them a canon personality.

Red also came before gender options, and they don't want to canonize one gender over the other

and how are they going to do that? Connect to your 3DS? Someone choosing Harmony doesn't mean they want Serena or they had chosen Serena previously
