I want to get into Pokemon What is the best order to play them in? Excluding anything before the GBA and games you don't think are worth playing.

>It's been nearly a decade >Still not finished yet
>>58269967Honestly, play through the entirety of Ruby/Sapphire and report back on what you like about those games after doing some of the optional stuff in those games (dex completion, Battle Tower ribbons, contests).Ruby/Sapphire act as great ways to gauge what about the series you like in the same way that Kirby Super Star does the same thing. While people say Emerald is better, Emerald's main difference is a massive post-game area that you might not even get mileage out of.
>>58269975small indie animator, pleas understand
>>58269975It’s been so long I forgot it wasn’t finished
>>58269971this except replace Black/White and Black 2/White 2 with XY
>>58269967Doesn't really matter as long as you start pre gen 8. Wouldn't be bad to start going backwards even. Sun/moon, then xy, then bw + bw2, etc
>>58270290BWBW2 is one of the most complete pokemon experiences you could possibly have in the franchise, if anything he should start with them.
>>58269971Fpbp>>58270290Bait used to be believable
>>58270290This except replace XY with Black/White, Black 2 /White 2 and locking anon in a room where no one has to hear his shit opinions ever again
>>58270290this except not this and what the first post said instead
>>58269967RBY + Stadium is all you need
>>58269967>Excluding anything before the GBAfuck off
>>58269980>While people say Emerald is better, Emerald's main difference is a massive post-game area that you might not even get mileage out of.What if I just ignore the post game then?
>>58271499really depends what kind of player you are and what you're looking for out of the game. some people just like the chill, adventure rpg vibe of the story campaign. other people like the competitive and strategic endgame of building strong teams to tackle difficult battle scenarios. I would suggest giving the latter a shot at some point if you want to see everything the series has to offer, but probably just start with playing through a few of the game's stories first.
>>58269967Start where it starts. Red/Blue.>Nothing pre GBAWhy?
>>58271499If you just want to play for the “story” or whatever then doing this>>58269971And ignoring the post game is fine.If you want to actually experience pokemon don’t skip the post game and add pokemon colosseum and xd gale of darkness before or after emerald. If pokemon breeding is too autistic for you then its fine to gen for shortcuts or gen mons in general. After BW2, assuming you want more of the gameplay and battle experience then XY, ORAS, USUM are all fine experiences as well. SWSH after that decides to drop the post game content entirely, force exp share and SWSH doesn’t even have all the starters so your interest there may wane. There is some post game content in SWSH if you buy the dlc and dynamax adventures is an interesting Co-op experience but thats it. SV is basically the epitome of all the bad things + open world slop but the battle system is still preserved and the pokemon lineup is better than SWSH.
>>58271517Basically this OP. The pokemon “experience” is mostly in the post game content for games like emerald and Platinum because of the battle facilities, but that requires proper team building and training which is obviously not for everyone. The post game is completely casual in the case of games like FRLG, HGSS, BW and BW2, however, in the case of HGSS, platinums battle facilities are re-used. In FRLGs case theres a shitty battle facility at the end of the post game that I consider optional.ORAS, Platinum and Emerald also have the hyper autistic pokemon contest challenge if you’re into that which is another timesink on its own
>>58269967to me the absolute must-play list is:>Emerald>Platinum >HGSS>BW>SM>PLAif you're having fun play FRLG, BW2, SWSH, and SV, they're all good.i think BDSP is a reasonable sidegrade to Platinum but most people don't.i also think USUM is a direct downgrade from SM specifically for ruining the story which is generally highly regarded, but again this is controversial.the only games i wouldn't bother with at all except out of morbid curiosity are XY and especially ORAS.have fun OP :)
>>58271499I say this pretty much all of the time to people but when the credits roll, there are many different cases where this is not the end of the game and Pokemon is one of them. When the credits roll, the only thing that actually happens is that you have added a star to your trainer card, and there is more than one star to add (four in total, actually). "Post-game" as a term is actually already pretty disingenuous because of this and I've never liked that term.Becoming Champion is logically the best place to put the credits because it's pretty much at the end of the scenario (and I can't argue with the giant THE END screen at the end of the credits) but in addition to becoming champion, your efforts are also awarded in pretty much the same way by the game in the following ways:>Become a master at all contests in the game>Win again 50 trainers in a row at the Battle Tower>Complete the Hoenn PokedexThe only one of these not locked to postgame stuff is the contest mastery. Technically you can complete the dex as well, but you may not be able to if you are emulating these due to version exclusives, so for you will would just have to catch all you can in the version that you pick, which does require beating the Elite Four. But to answer your question, playing Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald is pretty much mostly the same if you ignore the postgame, the only real addition comes in the form of having noticeably more Double Battles in Emerald, which if you haven't played a Pokemon game at all, definitely shouldn't be the start for you (not because they are hard but because most of the series is primarily single battles).
>>58270300> BWBW2 is one of the most complete pokemon experiences you could possibly have in the franchiseThen why is it completely pointless to play over gen 4 and 6?
>>58269967Pick any one game that came out before X and Y, and pick one between the original pokemon red, blue, or crystal. After that, don't play more games, watch the anime instead.
>>58272175>pointless to play over gen 4 and 6?Said by no one
>>58272254>taking bait this cheapmaybe eugenics wasn't such a bad idea
>>58272160A few additions to this post:Emerald mixes the plots of the two Hoenn games that came before it, so instead of going against Team Magma or Team Aqua, you instead go against both teams as you are caught in the middle of their fights as a third unaffiliated party. In Ruby, you go against Team Magma and in Sapphire you go against Team Aqua.Emerald also locks you out on contests until you get to Lilycove City and in Ruby/Sapphire the progression suggests that you can participate in contests as soon as you hit Verdanturf Town, which is about 2 badges in as opposed to 6 badges in Emerald. This is all to say that I don't think you should make it your goal to get the trainer card stars, you should instead play the game as you see fit while checking out these optional goals and see what you like as there are a bunch of releases that go in different directions when it comes to side content things.Ultimately every entry point into the series is a good place to start and there are very few games that I would not recommend someone start out on, but I say Ruby or Sapphire because in addition to the standard games, they are in my opinion the most well-balanced in the series for having a few non-essential things to try in tandem with support for cross-console compatibility (Pokemon Colosseum/Gale of Darkness) while also having a fairly unique mix of things to try in those base games. It's also very easy to say "you should start out on [insert overrated version] here!" but a lot of the times these versions recommended are recommended as such for their post-game content or alters to the base versions, to which if you are not going to touch that much or recognize anyways feels lazy to recommend otherwise.
>>58272254What reason do I have to play gen 5 over gen 4 and 6?
>>58272407You can catch Maractus!
which one? i cant decide...
>>58269967Play a romhack they are a better experience. I'd recommend emerald legacy for your first game
>>58269967FireRed or LeafGreen, Emerald, Platinum, HeartGold or SoulSilver, Black or White, Black 2 or White 2, X or Y, then Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire. Don't bother with anything past Gen 6. Besides that, I'd say to give the GB games a shot even if they are a bit dated.
