ITT: Pokémon that aren’t the size you imagined they were.I used to think that Meganium was one of the largest starters because it’s based on a Sauropod, but it’s actually a bit of a monlet. It’s funny seeing how dwarfed it is by Lapras.
>>58270413Nidoking. The guy's like 4'8. I always imagined him as being building sized as a kid.
What are some mons that ended up LARGER than you thought? The eeveelutions come to mind for me.
>>58270413
>>58270433
>>58270413Appletun being the size of an actual apple pie makes him really lame, I expected him to be at least cow sized first time I saw him
>>58270447Gastly is a lot bigger than one would expect too
>>58270433Knowing Sylveons are malamute-sized makes me want one. Absolute good boy material. People also underestimate the size of Togekiss, but that's one I was always aware of, so I personally am not surprised by it.
For some reason Wailord is 20ft bigger than the biggest blue whale ever recorded.
>>58270413>a 10 year old Japanese boy>being 5'10"
>>58270447>Gengar is slightly smaller>gets little sausage arms instead of awesome Rayman hands>in current gens loses Levitate tooIf I was a haunter, I'd be as stubborn about not evolving as Ash's pikachu.
>>58271476wtf are you talking about?
>this tiny lizard apparently has the power to reshape the geography of the earth
>>58270413Explains its stats a lot.
Are Pokémon with the quadruped body shape measured head to tail? Because it’s really hard for me to picture Venusaur being so massive, even including its flower, that it would reach 6’7” tall. LGPE seems to agree, as he’s a lot smaller than many of the other Pokémon when they follow you. I like him a lot more at this size, I think he’s cuter.
>>58270532Appletun is a hefty dragon, bigger than cake
>>58272016It's woefully inconsistent.Bipeds are measured to the tip of their earsQuadrupeds are sometimes measured vertically to shoulder, and sometimes horizontally from nose to tail tipSnakes are straight up measured in lengthSomething like Gastly, it's unclear if the fog around it counts. And something like Primarina... I don't fucking know.
>>58272050Primarina is standing height when on its back flippers, so length technically
>>58271913This is the most unbelievable thing about the Pokemon franchise
>>58272017Appletun is supposed to be 1'4", which is absolutely tiny to the point that it's kinda ridiculousThat plushie got it wrong but the design does look way better at that size
I imagined emboar to be much bigger than the average trainer. But as it turns out, it's actually shorter on average.

>>58271990I'm sticking with the old anime's vision.
>>58272275though I do think there's a bit of jackassery with the precision. How the fuck does one know how big that anime groudon is to the inch?I bet whoever made that (a redditfag apparently) grabbed a random frame from an episode with groudon in it, that showed them and the trainers roughly together, and counted pixels.Knowing how scales in the anime work, doing this would only be valid, to only within a few feet of precision mind you, for that one specific scene (probably just that one specific frame even), and no more. For another similar scene, you would get different results that vary wildly, depending on how big the animator wanted to make the pokemon and the trainers for that frame. Also, if you're using a trainer as a benchmark, you need to know how tall they are, which is its own separate can of worms. For many anime scenes, its pretty much impossible to tell with a higher accuracy how big they are, other than "bigger than normal by a lot" or whatever, because its not a sure thing, its a continuum. Claiming otherwise is retarded. There are exceptions to this, such as pic related (based on some charts from the teraleak that explicitly say what they are, so I have high confidence in it), but they're few and far between.
>>58272426Use Pikachu as a reference for scale
>>58272484Oh no, Babidi has possessed him!
>>58272426I'm pretty sure that 120 cm wasn't even the only height they used for Ash in those documents. I remember one that was in the 130s.
>>58272224is this from the teraleak or something? why isn't there a source listed?
>>58272555sorry for the spamIt -is- a thing from the teraleak, and I inserted the path into the doc itself since apparently the path gets mangled in posts.
>>58271924>gf ensured that evolving haunter into gengar would only be done by people who didn't care about his or her monsThank you based gamefreak
>>58270433Silvally is 7'07 for some reason, which is really weird because most art of it and Gladion together have it large dog-sized like you'd expect>>58272275Groudon is probably the most inconsistently-sized Pokemon of them all>>58270413I actually made this a few days ago. I know they probably want exact size measurements for animators, but this makes much more sense to me
>>58272903Intraspecific variation would make your scale very reasonable, I think it would be perfectly fine. Though for some reason IRL animals are given bizarrely specific measurements too. Why do we know that jaguars are >a body length of up to 1.85 m (6 ft 1 in) and a weight of up to 158 kg (348 lb), taken from wikipedia. Why 6'1"? Are we so sure that there are no jags an inch longer? why SPECIFICALLY 158/348? Shouldn't it say it's the high end of the measured range, not "They weigh up to EXACTLY this much"?So, I dunno. People are retarded.
>>58272903>shocked glalie and bronzor are that heavyimagine being this stupid online
>>58272507I didn't see that one, you have a link?
>>58272050Pokemon is not consistent, period. They are drawn to the size which is needed for whatever given scene/medium
>>58273013Why would glalie be that heavy? Isn't it made out of ice? ice is fairly light because it has a lower density than its liquid state.
>>58272931>Why do we know that jaguars are a body length of up to 1.85 m (6 ft 1 in) and a weight of up to 158 kg (348 lb), taken from wikipedia. Why 6'1"?Because that’s the largest size we found, obviously. If we find a bigger one, we’ll increase the number.
>>58272903This system is nice, but it would have needed to be implemented in like gen 4 at worst sadly
>>58273043You don't understand, the language used is vague and imprecise, which is very frustrating. It should say>Jaguars have been measured with a body length of up to 1.85 m (6 ft 1 in) and a weight of up to 158 kg (348 lb)instead of what it says right now. VERY important distinction that takes very little effort but is somehow omitted. It's frankly embarrassing every time I hear it because anything about zoology should be treated as a rigorous scientific endeavor, but it often isn't. Like this.also yeah before you say it, autism, I know. I'm still right though.
Charizard and Salamence's sizes in the games massively disappoint me. I much prefer their anime sizes.
>>58270413It’s the tiniest of the sauropod/pleiosaur Pokémon, though Tropius is surprisingly small as well. None of them come close to the reality.
>>58273793It would make more sense if these were actually shoulder heights
>>58273793tropius really needs to be the middle stage of a 3-stage line...
>>58273793>>58270413Cute portable Dino!
Bump
>>58273037That's because all Pokemon innately possess the ability to control both their size and weight, hence they can shrink and expand to any size as necessary.
>>58271971The sheer size of blue whales is pretty terrifying even though I know they're not aggressive creatures. I saw a life-size model of one, and I felt a very primal fear being near it, which I don't usually experience. Something very odd about seeing life at that scale.
>>58275391They're the largest animal to ever exist on the Earth, as far as we know. No dinosaur was larger.
>>58272491bibidi babidi buu
i wish they stuck with the idea that pokemon could be affected by gigantism and become colossal but its extremely rare
>>58275760Wasn't there a giant Tentacruel at one point? Also a giant Gengar and Jigglypuff?
>>58273039Because it’s still a giant ball of ice
>>58275773>TentacruelIt was the episode Misty got Horsea>Gengar and JigglypuffAlazakazam too.
>>58275760>i wish they stuck with the idea that pokemon could be affected by gigantism and become colossalEvery Pokemon can do that naturally, size alteration is canonically something all of them can do.
Is this a good representation of Golurk’s listed height of 9’2” in terms of the anime?
>>58276124that could be almost anything
>>58276124Meloetta saw the Golurkenis/Golurkussy.
>>58272426the birds always get me. I always mentally thought of them as around the size of a bald eagle or a condor so when I see them portrayed as fuckhuge it always gets me even when I'm aware of it.
>>58276538I guess its worth noting that, as >>58272507 implies, this is a lower bound, so they could very well be even bigger than that.Though, the Lugia actually lines up decently well with its description in >>58272224 that says Lugia is measured from beak to tail - that would make them look about as big as they are in that chart.Though I did see a shitload of posts from awhile back claiming ash was 140cm, which I also did, and I guess is a decent upper bound?I guess it depends on what you like.
>>58275829did the calcs and the weight was like half of what it should be, lmao, guess I just don't deal with ice enough
>>58272140>>58270413Most starter mons aren’t that big. I guess because they want them to be your partner who could follow you around with relative ease.I’m around 6’ tall, and the only starters with a height bigger than that (not counting megas) are:>Serperior>Feraligatr>Torterra>Venusaur>Inteleon>Blaziken
>>58271971i saw one of these guys from an airplane once, shit was insaaaaaane
Every single pokemon is ridiculously tiny because they're sticking to random numbers they put in the pokedex 30 years ago and it sucks
>>58275940Fuck off.
>>58277659it's true though
>>58277668Don't waste people's time with halfbaked nugen nonsense.
>>58270413>ITT: Pokémon that aren’t the size you imagined they were.None of them are. Most of them are way too fucking small, some of them are way too big. Pokemon sizes and weights were one of my biggest pet peeves as a child since I constantly interacted with plants & animals growing up and I knew how big or small, or how heavy, a living thing "was supposed to be". I even made little charts for my headcanon sizes.

>>58270413I imagine the anime didn’t help with this
>>58277795its a decently made chart and I didn't really believe at first that you made that image.also admittedly I wanted to see if there were any big birds there
>>58270413>weighs about as much as an average clydesdale>is now the heaviest completely normal pokemon
>>58270433Same
I choose to believe Wailord's given size is its height, not length.
>>58270413Issue is that sizes of Pokemon are measured so inconsistently - sometimes it's height from feet to top of head, sometimes it's body length and we can assume that some are measured at the withers like most quadrupedal animals are, but obviously we don't fucking know which is which.
>>58278431>>58272224probably the best possible answer we've got
