For the backlash to "deal more damage", like you dream of, the target demographic would had to have been late teens-young adults and the franchise would also have had to have lost ALL its casual market from day one almost 30 years ago, for the current band of "late teen-young adult" players to have been the ONLY market available to them, thus able to impact their bottom line in any fashion.
But kids are the target demographic, causalfags DON'T give a fuck for looking at 600 PNG's in a video game consecutively and the rest of us who aren't autistic dregs of humanity either divested themselves fully from the thing at that point and moved on with life or continue to buy and play the games yearly, ignoring the noise from the feeble.
