I’ve been on a huge GBA pokemon game kick recently and now I’m going to take on the battle frontier / trainer tower. I also plan to eventually port these pokemon forward to play on the battle subway with a friend, so I’ve been EV training in FireRed and… holy crap this is grindy. I’ve just been killing paras and pidgey over and over, it really does feel like the South Park bit. The one thing I have to give the 3d pokemon games is that getting “competitively viable” pokemon is a lot easier.

>>58280821honestly, no, I don't. I just use pksm. sorry, but that kind of grinding is just not fun especially in 10+ year old games when I just want to jump into battling. I will still often bred for natures and maybe even ivs the old fashioned way cause idk, that at least requires a bit of strategizing, but fuck grinding for evs. it's just a time sink.
>>58280821also if you still want to feel like you did it legit, you could move or clone your pokemon into a newer game, get their evs there, and then move the, back with pksm/pkhex. moving pokemon forward isn't necessarily a one way trip anymore. if you're playing on a 3ds for example, you could move pokemon to xy, super train them, and then send them back with pksm. it's still technically illegal, but you're still getting the evs in a legit way. I think it's still a waste of time imo but if it helps soothe your autism I guess.

>>58280821Yeah of course. My strategy is usually to train on one specific Pokemon species so that the EV yield is always the same. Then I count how many EVs I've earned based on how much PP I've spent. Expend all moves, write down the EV count somewhere, then repeat.>>58281929ngmi

I guess to be fair, I'm never just EV training, I'm mashing A while watching videos or cooking, but still, it's very very tedious.
