Fire should be orange
Fire should be orange as the color of flames and Fighting should be red as the color of blood.
I think they made Fire red so it could better represent the red/green/blue color triangle the starter Types are going for. But the majority of Fire Types clearly lean more towards being orange and I can't think of a single justification for Fighting being represented by orange
In a slightly different reality these easily could have been official Type colors

Fighting was more of a dark brown than red
They dabbled with fire being red orange earlier on so it's not that drastic a change
While I'm there they actually swapped rock and ground too
Rock went from dark to grayish brown
Flying went from periwinkle to cornflower while the rest are mostly the same

While orange works better for fire because most fire is orange, not red.That said, in the context of the actual games, with fire being one of the 3 starter types, having it be red makes it fit better alongside green grass and blue water, since those are the RGB colors.
