It's a pretty awful type in general as it gets embarrassed by dark and only is super effective against 2 types, one that is pretty mid and only one legendary actually has. Meanwhile fighting loses to fairy anyway so why wouldn't you just run fairy instead of psychic which doesn't get embarrassed by dark AND also having dragon immunity? Both are resisted by steel too so not even that's an argument. Then there's how its "coverage" most of the time is a 70% accuracy move. What's even more sad is that it still somehow sucks even with knock off and pursuit getting hard nerfed. So yeah Mewtwo is okay, but he's good despite his pure psychic typing. Not because of.
