You missed the peak.Pokemon was never supposed to stay a 1v1 turn based monster catching RPG. It was just the best they could do on the gameboy. Gen 2 went out of its way to focus on the aspects that capture the imagination because it understood its limitations. Every game after lazily committed to the rpg formula instead of trying to capture what gen 2 wanted to be; an exploration based adventure game.
