Until you reach the desert you have to use lame vanilla ass encounters like lillipup and blitzle if you don't want to overlevel your starter and trivialize the entire earlygame. Just makes the first 2 gyms really boring. And not to mention there's a big stretch of the midgame where you're just not getting any noteworthy encounters (gyms 4-5). It's like every area before the 5th gym that isn't the desert is chalk full of shitters that just aren't fun to use. Idk this is just what I've found trying to teambuild in these games. Because of this BW are easily the games I come back to the least, even though I do really like other aspects of them
