Why do some Pokemon have a high stat in 1 defense only to have the other so awful?
>>58285435hard wall, death by a thousand cuts, humiliate the opponent
>squirtle used bubble
>>58285435I thought that image was gonna rotate for a second.
>>58285435Armor protects you from physical blows but not from fire or thunderbolts
Im so mad this perfect looking Pokemon has a fucking ugly and terrible looking mega.
>>58285468mega steelix is excellent though...
>>58285435do you realize how annoying a Pokemon with 200 in HP, Defense, and Special Defense would be? You better hope Game Freak pulls a Game Freak and give them only offense oriented moves
>>58285435Gamefreak designs stats for flavor, not competitive. This is true now, but was even more true in gen 2.Steelix just looks like something that would be more resilient against physical attacks than energy-based ones.
>>58285468the teeth look stupid when they aren't together but steelix looks amazing otherwise
Steel
>>58285435you should know by now that basically every rock type has always been like this. and most steel types too. it's just how the types are designed because it makes sense from a logical view.
>>58285435Onix was designed to be the easy first boss. Multiplayer battles were originally an afterthought and they had no idea how meta gaming would work. They were more interested in you collecting exotics at the time.
>>58285524There's a middle ground between 200 and 65
>>58286482132.5?
>>58285435so that it can wall physical attacks but be weak to special attacks, so that it can serve a purpose but not be invulnerable. I mean this is pretty basic, right?
>>58285435Some Pokemon, especially Onix and Steelix, are never meant to be used by the player. They only exist to be enemies to overcome.
>>58286757I do wonder if Pokemon would've better off if the idea of catching 'em all was never a conceit from the start.Like if some Pokemon really were reserved for the enemies, and could have stats and moves suited for an enemy.GF seems to feel constrained by this, with shit like Eternamax Eternatus. I get the feeling that even base Eternatus would've never been obtainable if every Pokemon being catchable wasn't Pokemon tradition.
>>58286770Definitely. That was the whole point behind Mew even, it was supposed to exist solely in lore and promotional material and not be findable or obtainable, period, but it got tucked into the game's code at the very last moment since there was space for it after they removed development tools from the data.
>>58286757I remember battling some kid on link cable and his steelix beat my ass so I thought it was really good
>>58286778But would it have made the games better, is what I'm wondering?I feel like catching 'em all was a huge part of why Pokemania took off and what separated Pokemon from other RPG's. Every monster in the game can be used by you.
>>58289128I mean to be fair Pokemon wasn’t the first to do this, but I’m not going to act like SMT was this huge thing outside of Japan until persona. I agree though that having every enemy be recruitable is a major appeal, especially for children. It’s a neat gimmick when you’re just starting to play video games. It was for me anyway, I’ve always loved when you can play as or control the bad guys.
>>58286770>>58286778>>58289254different anon here but I HEAVILY disagree that it would be better with locked-off mons. One of the most enthralling parts of pokemon for novices is seeing mons in the wild AND in the overworld AND in enemies' teams and knowing that you can go out and find it. There are so many people who play pokemon pretty much exclusively for the teambuilding. While g1 had, like you said, mew, and technically the ghost marowak as well was a weird situation, if they started introducing boss mons that were unable to be obtained at all most people would not be interested. I know that in SM people were mad Lusamine didn't fight with her own body (which I totally get, she looked like she was up until she kind of awkwardly lifted up the pokeball...) AND that they DID include them later on with stuff like the starmobiles or whatever, but it's very much antithetical to how Pokemon operates at an APPEAL level. There were so many people mad that you couldn't catch some of the designs from pokestar studios if you recall, you know?
>>58289254Could you recruit every single enemy in SMT like in Pokemon? I never played it.
