Chinese romanization is just like that sometimes see the other thread's samples. If anything it's chinese's fault, at least japanese has kana to tell you exactly how to pronounce stuff.
Plus shifting blame to anglospeakers is pretty unfair, they can't pronounce things correctly, not even words from their own language, it's like blaming the retarded kid in class. Not cool, man.
