Has anyone seen the art on this poster before? I have this one and the matching one. Bought them in chinatown probably 10-12 years ago and I just wanted to see if anyone could shed any light on the artwork. I’m assuming the ones being listed are unofficial/unlicensed art but I can’t find these designs anywhere online. What do you think? Does anybody else have this poster or the other one with the rest of the 151? Hello? Why did I have to wait 300 seconds to make this thread?
>>58289764A few of the mons like Chansey look kind of ripped off from existing Sugimori artwork. Given the Japanese text though and the cool way the design groups the mons by evolutionary family/specifies the level they evolve it's maybe possible these came from a guidebook or something (maybe not official, but also maybe just a more obscure official artist).
can you scan it?
>>58289803Thanks for the insight dude. Do you know where I might be able to dig for these artworks online? I really couldn't find this original 151 list anywhere
>>58289825Honestly the posters I have are hanging on my kid’s wall and I don’t have a scanner big enough at my disposal. I took these pictures off of an ebay listing I found which is the only place online where I could find this image. I’ll take a picture of the other poster tomorrow and post it here. It’s better than this one, first half of the dex not covered in giant pikachus.

>>58289833Maybe looking for Japanese Red/Green-era guidebooks or possibly gaming magazines and seeing if any have art that matches? I tried doing a quick search just now for Japanese merch featuring the 151 that might use the same images and nothing similar came up immediately, but the design of the poster does make it seem like that art and info was taken from some kind of reference guide. Also re: the question in the OP, I think I vaguely remember seeing this poster before too since the Pikachu images arranged that way feel familiar, but I don't really recognize the art either. Like aside from the mons that seem to be copied from other art, these don't seem to be commonly used even for bootleg stuff.
>>58289891>>58289803Found it! It was in the back of Let’s Find Pokemon! 2. I grew up a huge pokemon fan, borderline obsessed. How did I never see these books?
>>58289922That's awesome you found it so fast! I never read those books either and wouldn't have thought of looking there.
>>58289931Ebay listings were more useful than shitbag google image search
If anyone wants to know, the artist’s name is Kazunori Aihara and it is official pokemon art. Looks great!
