It's kind of funny we only really get thematic teams for the elite four when there are actual limitations(though lance is still monotype funny enough). Original Flint really should be the standard but Platinum couldn't even keep him that way.

He does actually use those in his rematch fight. Which is more of an issue with how GF handles remakes. Does make me wonder if there would ever be an idea of actually remaking the gens so that you can backport pokemon, mechanics, and story elements from later gens in ways that would make sense. Probably not since it would require a lot of work to look at the regions and actually think about what changes would work and what would be overreach. Like Gen 1 alone would need to take into account pokemon that are in kanto in Gen 2, the connections to Gen 3 that FRLG set up, and even mega evolutions if you want to go that route and it could balloon to the point it goes too far.

Really I'm not sure how this was ever an issue, like I gotta wonder how far they got into Sinnoh before they realized the region had two fire types including the starter and they just never decided to correct that despite also choosing to make an elite four member a fire trainer, and have that one specifically show up in the story. There's a lot of layers of mismanagement there.

Game Freak always makes a step forward and two back, I was disappointed by how they handled that shitty Altaria kit and how a Flygon or Kingdra would have been better, then they also fucked up his Dragonite in the rematch, 5 PP Draco Meteor making it a sitting duck for the rest of the match, GF staff doesn't seem to play their own games when at least most of Battle Tower late mon kits are somewhat threatening.
Same shit happened with Steven rematch in ORAS, and none his E4 took advantage from their mega evolution passives either. A fucking Carbink and Archeops...
