Pokemania nostalgia thread, zoomers welcome to discuss how they missed out and should kill themselves
>going to the movies was cheap>fast food was cheap>mom wanted me to shut the fuck up once in a while>saw the pokemon movie so many times>always walked down to the burger king in the mall food court afterwards>picked up a gold plated pokemon card each time until I had them all>stop at the B. Dalton on the way out and get a pack of cardsHoly shit life was good. Too bad everything went to shit a few years later. Also I miss Poliwhirl being a mascot.
scalper thread
>>58316159>pokemania hits>grandma gives me packs of pokemon cards for my birthday>church trying to ban pokemon because SATAN and JAPAN corrupting the youth>people banned from brick and mortar stores for bringing a scale to weigh booster packs of pokemon off the shelves>everyone collecting the cards but nobody knowing how to play the gameGood times. I was gifted the gameboy port of the trading card game at one point. It was a great game, taught me the rules, and let me open packs without draining my parent's already empty bank accounts.
>>58316239I opened up a charizard in a venusaur pack at a Sam Goody back in 1999
my mom has a photo of me playing pokemon blue on an old cushion chair when I was like 5 and I'm pretty sure I ate the pokemon cereal
My mom threw away my chonky Pikachu plush from the golden days, wish I still had that thing
>>58316159Anyone remember those Pokemon bouncy balls? I lost so many of them when I was younger. Always pissed my mom off, lmao
>>58316831no clue what you're talking about>google itholy shit I vaguely remember those things
>here are those pokémon cards you wanted, anon
>>58316993I remember everyone hating these things. Now they're somehow an expensive collectable? Whst happened? You literally couldn't give them away at a yard sale back in the day.
>>58317047Literally everything Pokemon is scalped to fuck. This franchise is now for manchildren in their mid-30s who never grew out of Pokemania.
>>58316966>bouncing these balls against the wall until they crack and break>everyone being convinced that's just them getting ready to evolve>everyone freaking the fuck out when it's happening to the mewtwo ball
>>58316966Yeah these. They bounced high as fuck from what I recall so my friends and I would just slam them against the ground and they’d fly off into the streets.
I remember loving Pokemon and then outgrowing it for DBZ because I wanted to be the cooler kid. I just like how Pokemon was derided as just another fad that children will outgrow, and now you have those same kids, now with cash, spending like crazy on it.
What causes grown adults to behave like this?
>>58316966>cut the balls to release the figure inside>figure is now part of the pocket playset
>>58316966I miss how fat Pikachu was.
>>58317334Millennials, 'nuff said
>>58317334Greed. No one it there trying to get one item because they love it. They're grabbing shit by the handful to scalp.
>>58317334Money. For every one they buy, they resell for a profit. Some of these scalpers don't even hold a job. This is their career. Every item they fail to snatch is money that slips through their fingers.
>>58316159man these guys used to be good at advertisingwhat happened to that?
>>58317334this video gives me that same ugly, repulsed feeling i get when i see one of those black friday shopper compilations
>>58317047>nobody wants thing when it's plentiful>everyone wants thing years later when it's rareitt: anon learns about basic economics
I remember I had Mew and Graveler
Got my Ekans temporary tattoo from the grocery store, time to go to the beach with my sick new chair...Gonna blast the TV theme at karate class later...
>>58319042for me, it's diglett
>>58316831So fun yet so easy to lose...
>>58316159In México we got Pokemon pogs in bags of chips and all the kids were crazy for them
>>58316246physical TGC threads are an extension of it
>>58316159Fuck I miss the 90s...
>>58316159Nostalgia is a cancer and anyone who hasn't killed theirs should kill themselves instead.>t. 33 year old who lived through Pokemania and likely experienced far more of it than anyone on this board
>>5832139732 here. I'm not that radical about it but nostalgia is nice to think about once in a while. What always gets forgotten is how restricting and shitty the rest of childhood was. There was certainly much less to do back then than today.Any grown adult who has to go online to say "my childhood is better than yours" is living a sad reality. Same goes for the parents who force their childhood shit down their kids' throats. Just let them play Roblox and Minecraft with their friends.
>>58320991usa had metal spinners randomized, could "battle" + doubled as tcg coins
>>58319042mew , kabuto, seadra, pikachuwent nicely with my tomi jolteon & others
>>58321397kek im 36 & its the only memories some of us got left
>>58321397Then why are you still posting on /vp/
>>58316966FREE HIM
>>58321397Who hurt you?
>>58316159I found a couple of unopened ones when I was cleaning out my closet. The boxes were beat to shit, unfortunately.
>>58317159I lost one on top of my school's roof.
>>58322475Masuda :(
>>58316159i have a Nidoran toy from Burger King and a Sandslash keychain from there too, being a kid during the OG Pokemania was so cool. My brother won a Pokemon bag for carrying your gameboy in a contest and he still has it
>>58316807Did you have the one that lighted up the cheeks when you pushed it's stomach? i had that one as a child, it was really round
>>58316966>>58316831I had a bulbasaur one and i remember trying to free him but i couldn't completely
The good ol' days of just fabricating entire characters and Pokemon to sell books
>>58322872she cute
>>58322872those books were great
I had Squirtle socks when i was a kid and i loved those socks so much but one day a cabinet fell on my foot, blowing my toe off and my squirtle socks got fucking ruined with the blood
I remember having pokemon "comic books" when i was a kid but the "comics" where just screenshots from the anime with dialogue bubbles slapped onto the images. The cool thing about those comics was that they also contained guides for Red&Blue, one had the complete layout of Mewtwo's cave and other for the sea foam islands and getting articuno. Anyone knows what i'm talking about?
GO before they started adding nugen shit was the closest we will ever get to pokemania pt.2https://youtu.be/S9LZZugYUmg?si=grndo8mGqDwr_f6R
when i was a kid my cousin was the "rich kid" with transfer paks for the stadium games and somehow he once got a freaking Mew on his pokemon yellow cart and he always made up shit, he told that he got the mew from Giovanni by giving him a lv100 ryhorn
>>58316159
>>58322901https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pocket_Monsters_Film_ComicI think this is probably what you're talking about
>>58322912I have few of these and a Venusaur case for them. Can I make some money of it?
>>58322915yeah, they looked just like that! cool
I doubt anyone remembers the spelling/phonics books that existed
>>58316159https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfgfQPA6oPI
>>58322928I had a pokemon encyclopedia for the og 150 and then a new edition came out with an early showing of some of the Johto mons
>>58321438The best childhoods are when a trusted family friends share some of the media from their younger years with you, without forcing it on you. I'm 30, and I remember when our babysitter let us borrow their old NES for a while. I think it only had the Mario+Duck Hunt cartridge, but it was a ton of fun to play. I still have a vivid memory of discovery a secret in Super Mario Bros. VS for the gameboy color (the 4-2 warp), then having my mind blown when I found the exact same secret in the original game.
>>58323057yeah, it's cool, i lived with my grandmother as a child and i grew up watching Bonanza and The 3 Stooges with her on TCM
>>58321438>32 here. I'm not that radical about it but nostalgia is nice to think about once in a while. What always gets forgotten is how restricting and shitty the rest of childhood was. There was certainly much less to do back then than today.Much less to do? What about the local mall (on the verge of extinction these days) where you could hang out with friends? How about the local park (again, going away thanks to so much urban construction) where you could play sports with your friends, bike, etc... Other stuff like arcades (remember those?) or being able to hit up the local ice cream or fast food and have it NOT cost a fucking arm and a leg? Growing up in the post-Cold War pre-9/11 era was truly the best.
When was the core phase of Pokemania over? Did it extend to movie 2? It feels like movie 2 was already in the post phase.
>>58324138I love that this is the same shit the lost generation would say about the gay 90s a century ago, but still applies.
>>58324166Nah movie 2 and new pokemon hype kept it alive until gen 2 was in full swing.
>>58322671s a m e s i s
>>58324138Kids still do all that shit now, just replace Pokeshit with Minecraft, Roblox, and social media. I don't know about you, but my weekends were always taken up by extracurriculars, along with all of my friends. What you're describing is a stereotypical view of how American teens spent summer vacation.>ice cream or fast foodOur parents always made lunch and dinner for us, so we ate at home. >>58324166Movie 1 was the peak of the hype, then it steadily declined. Between movie 3-4 is when it noticeably cratered and you were called a faggot for still liking Pokemon.
>>58316159It sure was great!
https://youtu.be/K783SDTBKmg?si=BKE5HHL6EGf_9jQUI wonder. Can younger generations even perceive why this was one of the most epic thirty seconds relative to Nintendo period?
>>58326241I remember going into theaters for movie 4 and it was bare fucking empty.
>>58326275Yes, see every Smash reveal since Brawl's teasers in 2007
>>58326287Opening night?
>>58324166Core phase was until 1999. Pokemon was still popular until around 2001. Nobody particularly wanted Crystal when it was releasing on an outdated console (GBA had released earlier than year in the West) and the movies were getting pretty fucking terrible and Pokemon was no longer special enough to just draw kids in.
>>58326309Smash has a lot a hype, and was the literal birth of the platform fighter. But before any of that, it was an answer to a prayer. Nintendo were getting their asses kicked in US sales by Sony & Microsft in the late 90s and early 2000s. They lost Square-Enix in the N64 era then sold off Rareware in the GameCube days. They had an identity crisis back then. Mature games were in demand, and you can how bad it was for Nintendofags being a /v/tard (equivalent) back then. Imagine CoD & FF fanboys flooding here at twenty times the rate Digimon does today.Anyways, the main takeaway is that OG Smash fans are devoted, mostly because of deep ties to early intense culture. No one in their right mind would want to go back, but no one should want to forget it either.
>>58322912I remember that I liked putting these in my mouth...
>>58322912a friend of mine who was the rich kid in school had a bunch of these plus this giant pokeball-shaped laucher with a magnifying glass and a light that would project the pokemon printed on the marbles on walls (really poorly)
>>58316159dam nthese things are cool would like to get some made out of real gold probs worth like 100k or something though if they existed kek
>>58317334these people probably dont even like pokemon theyre just buying to scalp them, i saw some video where some fags went into costco and bought like their entire stock of pokemon cards to resell its just so rude when there are people who will buy them to actually own
>>58326988>Pajeet franchise brings out the pajeet in people. Again.More news at 11.
