It freaks me out though that were 6 when XY came out are 18 now and old enough to post here, like, literally never knew about the age when Pokemon was good.
People who came in late also WONT remember because they will never have the old games as their "daily driver" games so to speak, and only appreciate them through main campaign playthroughs / Nuzlockes, rather than as something you play every day and get the most out of the world / postgame content.

This has nothing to do with the quality of the games btw, its because Americans who bought pokemon games as a kid all started to enter high school or certain middle schools around that time where you couldnt like Pokemon anymore due to various social expectations , and then by the time XY, SM and Go came out everyone was getting into college age or adulthood where you can like and buy whatever you want, plus the MCU and Big Bang Theory "normalizing" nerd culture, so everyone felt it was acceptable to buy pokemon games again.

Nothing beats the buggyness of early Gens kid. Fucking Gen 4 had a newly discovered bug not a month ago, for fuck's sake (the gift that keeps on giving). Kids today don't know what bugs pre-release SV had,because the egregious ones got patched and the rest came from emulation on non-native hardware (something that doesn't affect kids whose mummy buys them a games console to play the game on).
