So after the conclusion of Gen 1's story, Lorelei disappears. In Gen 2, Lance and Bruno are still around, Bruno still a member of the Elite Four while Lance has become Champion (presumably after resigning his spot). Koga has left his gym to join the Elite Four, and the League now has two new members, Will and Karen. Agatha's absence makes plenty of sense - she either died or retired. In fact she might very well be one of the old unnamed NPCs that we meet.So what happened to Lorelei? Did she resign her spot? Did she leave Kanto and Johto to travel abroad? She's one of the only masters from Kanto to go unaccounted for in the sequel.

In the gen III postgame, it's implied that she feels a sense of guilt, at the possibility of her hometown being harassed by the team rocket grunts while she's away and unable to protect it. So I guess that's the excuse for her absence in future games. In gen IV she would be at Four Island.
