I remember getting it a day early, local shop was selling it and word was going around.
Best base game of the series, the worldwide aspect really made it feel special. Not just the simultaneous release but the ease of use of the gts, the addition of wonder trading, the collecting of vivillon was the most fun I'd had "collecting them all" in a Pokemon game since gen 1, and that's the best part of the franchise for me. I'm also a trainer customization fag, a big introduction for me. Fairy type is cool. I also think XY was a clean and pretty introduction into 3D and I think still the best looking core game aside from Sword Shield outside of the wild areas (and Let's Go).The amount and the design of the Pokemon was admittedly a bit lackluster, as was the relative lack of a postgame. It was also a bit easy even for Pokemon but that doesn't bother me too much since they're all easy, I usually add some artificial challenges for myself.

There was so many new features added at once, I remember horde encounters being pretty crazy and these things that almost sound like a myth but aren't like wild Hydreigon in the last portion of the Victory Road. Playing these games were pretty crazy, specially when I mostly got information from a small circle of friends and casual youtubers that I followed.
My memories were disappointment over the lack of new Pokemon and all the gym leaders getting torn through like toilet paper. Just about the only thing this game did right was the PSS.
