For anyone with a brain its obvious that they either couldn't get it to run properly on Switch 1 with that geometry, or (more likely) they got scared because of the SV backlash (that PLZA prototype is from 2022) so went overkill and simplified buildings to make the game run at 60fps instead of their usual 30fps (SwSh, PLA, BDSP, SV all run at this frame rate)

That is a good thing and what studios should be doing, HOWEVER, there are 30 years of modeling and rendering techniques that can let low poly, efficient models not look like shit. Like, GF is basically reinventing the wheel and poorly recreating all of the techniques that are built into modern engines. They're just now entering the PS2/GameCube era. Are we supposed to wait for 2040 to get a good looking Pokemon game?

This. Game Freak has no idea what LOD means so they just made a single low poly model for the entire city. Please understand

To add to this, I'm pretty sure they could have made it look better by splitting this large model into sections and only rendering sections that are visible. If you walk between buildings at certain places some other building far away are never visible, so they do not need to be rendered at all. This could then be used to render more detailed meshes on visible buildings for example. Game Freak however is lazy and dumb so they went with the easiest and ugliest solution possible, always rendering the entire city at all times.
