GameFreak from Gen 10 onwards are using a new engine called Pokemon Engine X, a successor to the Pokémon Engine they’ve been using since Sword and Shield
>>58398649Was it designed for backwards compatibility with Switch 1? Any idea if this engine started during 2021/2022 when they were targeting SV for Switch 1 and "Pro" models? Or is it 2023-2024 era, once they got Switch 2 dev kits
>>58398649NINTENDO
>>58398678No
>>58398649looks like palworld
>>58398678Started it in 2023, no backwards compatibility with Switch, built off Unreal Engine 4
>>58398649Sure hope it looks and runs better than SV. It looked like shit because the engine is ass. Hope they optimised it better.
>>58398649OK. Will this new engine mean they'll go back to having every Pokémon usable like they did before gen 8? Yes or no.
>>58398649Looks like shit
>>58398842Ay, like one of those cheap steam games that most likely has malware in it.
>>58398649This is a stock town asset scene from the Unreal Marketplace. I have that too.
>>58398742Interesting. Especially with ZA originally planned for Q4 2024, and the DLC+Champions targeting 2025. They've never launched a new generation of games exclusively on next-gen hardware, without there being a budget hardware option. The price of the base Switch 2 isn't coming down anytime soon, and it's unlikely there will be a budget console ready for Q4 2026. Without a 2DS or Lite model, it's not going to do those big holiday Pokemon numbers. I can't see Pokemon selling their next big game to such a small audience. Nintendo has always bent over backwards to ensure there's a cheap hardware option alongside Pokemon, maybe they'll offer a deep-discount Black Friday deal, really play into FOMO, just to ensure little timmy gets his Pokeyman game and stays in the Nintendo ecosystem. Maybe Nintendo will leverage Shiver Entertainment to make a custom Switch 1 port. They specifically bought a studio who specialize in custom made downgrades, and Pokemon is their golden goose. I could see them doing a Hogwarts Legacy style downgrade on Switch 1, rather than hamstring Game Freak again. It avoids all the issues we saw with them targeting Switch 1 for ZA and SV, and avoids a situation where Gen 10 has limited reach or appeal because kids are priced out of it.
>>58398961I fully expect Nintendo to raise the price of Switch 2 after this holiday season. To offset this, I also believe Nintendo will reveal around August or September of next year a cheaper Lite model for the upcoming holiday 2026 season, and bundle the next Pokemon game with it, possibly even make a version of the system a Pokemon 30 anniversary special edition.
>>58400408Thermals are an issue with S2. Packing it into a smaller form factor wouldn't be cheaper, battery would suffer, and it would run too hot. They're better off lowering cost of base console
>>58400408Switch isn't that expensive is it? As a poor third worlder I got it day one so fat burger kids should be fine.
>>58400479*Switch 2
>>58398678>Was it designed for backwards compatibility with Switch 1? the switch 1 is more than 10 years oldshut the fuck up and buy a switch 2 already, you're dragging the entire franchise to the ground just so you can play your games on your fisher price tablet
>>58398678They already have 2 gens on the Switch. Why the fuck would they do a third?
>>58400479It’s relatively cheap but still pretty hard to find in stock
>>58400494Because it's the best selling system, and the S2 pricing has proven to be an issue
>>58400524Woop dee doo, SV can't even run on the Switch 1. The franchise can't evolve if forced to release to it.
>>58400433>Thermals are an issue with S2. Packing it into a smaller form factor wouldn't be cheaper, battery would suffer, and it would run too hot.It took them 2 years to come up with a smaller, more efficient and cooler SoC for the Switch 1 to make regular units cheaper to manufacture and the Lite even possible so while a S2 Lite is inevitable, it will probably not be out in a few years until they can start manufacturing those revised smaller chips.
>>58400622The Switch 2 SoC is 8nm. We've been on 3nm for a bit now so a 3nm revision to reduce size and increase battery will be sooner or later.
>>58400622Yeah, I expect they'll try to drive down the price purely through scale. Or sell it at a loss once there's enough exclusive software to make up the difference. >>58400601We care how it runs, but the sales tell another story. 10m copies of a functional game versus 30m copies of a broken game.
>>58398649nobody's mentioning that their new engine is just a wrapper around unreal engine lol
>>58398961its gonna sell like hotcakes regardless. it's pokemon post pokemon go
>>58398961>Maybe Nintendo will leverage Shiver Entertainment to make a custom Switch 1 port.why the fuck would they do this when they want people to buy their new hardware? your assumption is that they care about Pokemon sales numbers more than they care about their new system taking off which is just false
>>58400639>The Switch 2 SoC is 8nm. We've been on 3nm for a bit nowthat doesn't really mean anythingswitch 1 soc was 20nm and rev2 was 16nm, despite 7nm already being a thing
