why can't we have a fun tryhard competitive hack where we aren't given multiple 450+ bst pokemon and every single held item before beating the second gym leader? what's wrong with having a held oran berry be challenging? make the rare single stage shitmon actually great in the early game cause it dwarfs the prevos. i guarantee that by the time you reach flannery, your team can be practically unchanged from then till the elite 4 since everything is optimized. the movesets are kinda in the right direction

Level caps keep starters in line with the rest of the shitmons. For lucid in particular things like heart scales and stones are still locked off behind midgame

I prefer custom teams that try to fit a theme than let's see how annoying we can make this fight kinda teams.

i feel like a problem is, if you want a lot of battles, you'll get exp and levels way faster. that either means more level caps or evolutions happening earlier. i think more difficulty romhacks should prolong the time spent in a pre evolved state by raising the level requirements. maybe you could also start adding egg, event, old gen, or even entirely new moves to levels 50-100 since the progression at that point is pretty barren

yeah that's actually a genuinely good idea to include egg/event/oldgen/etc moves in level up movepools, for QOL reasons and because it'd be lame to have to give up your mon you've used frequently since you got it just because to get an optimal moveset you have to breed a new one
there's generally not much in there past the 50s for 95% of lines beyond maybe a few very strong moves per mon, if they even get anything past that point
obviously for sanity purposes it'd be dumb to put weak moves in the upper half of the level range but you can always put the weaker moves in the earlier levels
