I've played up to the Z rank promotion and beat Zach but I'm not really sure how I feel about the battle system yet.

I really really want to enjoy this game. Does the battle system open up eventually and am I just judging too early? As it stands it kinda just feels spammy and feels like it lacks strategy. Especially since you have to manage both yourself and your mon, combined with the kinda janky lock on targeting makes the battle system just feel really messy to me. And I've played all sorts of JRPGs but it still feels like this to me.

Am I missing something? Do I just prefer turn based? Judging too quickly? Please enlighten me fellow Pokechads

People are acting like its the best thing since sliced bread and I can't help but feel I'm missing something or judging too quickly.

I prefer turn based. Real time is more "convenient" for getting rid of wild mons and early game trainers quickly, but for stronger trainers, the thinking and strategy that comes with turn based combat is way more fun.

Hello guys, I really want to play Z-A, but I'm afraid I might find the battle system too confusing and just not for me.

I REALLY want to try the new Megas, but my dilemma is: should I try Z-A, or should I buy the paid version of Pokemon Champions whenever that releases? Because Champions will surely have all the Megas right? But idk how easy it would be to get them in Champions.

We're in the honeymoon phase of a new Pokemon game, I'll give it a week
>>
I prefer turn based battles but it's fine to have something like this for a spin off game

Try Z-A and see how you feel

People were shitting on SV immediately though

new toy syndrome. Anyone still playing pokemon at this point plays ONLY pokemon so this is the first time they've experienced another kind of gameplay.

It's...serviceable for trying something different for a change, but it's definitely not great.

The battle system honestly feels more like Digimon World 1 than an actual real-time action RPG.

I was enjoying it until
>explore wild zone
>get jumped by 3 pokemon at once
This shit is annoying.

Do PvP and come up with unbeatable strategies.

I do feel like it takes time to get used to.

I like the concept, but the execution just feels clunky.

Some easy stuff I wish they had done:

- Have some way to zoom out a bit... Using any large flyer covers the entire center of your screen (Charizard anyone).

- Have some way to cancel attacks. Like a walk here or a simple cancel. Nothing worse than seen your Pokemon auto-chase someone that is running away.

Some more extreme changes that I think would help it feel less clunky:

- Targeting an enemy swaps controls with your Pokemon entirely and roles are reversed (trainer follows pokemon or stays in place). If trainer takes damage screen would still flash red so you'd know to change back. (Though desu I'd prefer they just get rid of the trainer in battle entirely).

Definitely takes time to click. I prefer turn based by far but the real time stuff was a fun detour for this game. They need to just make the mainline turn based faster like it was in Arceus

It's just Xenoblade combat but worse

I felt the same when I played the first 2 hours. I think it takes a while to click and they don't really do a good job of onboarding people who are more familiar with turnbased. But around Wild Zone 2 I started to really gel with the game.

Ease into the new battle system by just starting battles standing still and not moving, don't do too much at once. After that you'll start to gradually learn.

Overall I still much prefer turn based, especially the fast one in Arceus, but the real time combat in this game is something I can appreciate now for what it is. It is different though.
