Yeah, it's called "accepting your opinion is not the one taken by the majority of the fanbase". If they wanted it to be your wet dream turned reality, they'd have made it so, if the rest of the fanbase cared about it that way. They didn't, thus Game Freak leaned into what people liked about the line. Same reason as Mega RaiY ended up being Mega Pikachu (maybe the other too, but I prefer Y, blow me) because people care more about Pikachu than its ignored evolved form (that Game Freak lampshade it in-game puts the cherry on top).
