If only the whole game was more like this part. It actually felt like I was playing a Pokemon game. And when they mentioned other routes and towns it made me think how awesome this game would be if I could go there instead of just the city. I really want them to make a game that's like this, but with an entire region to explore and more dungeons. SV didn't have anything like this.It made me want the game to just be starting, because it was finally like a classic dungeon that was pretty easy and kinda short, but wouldn't be bad for something more towards the beginning of a large-scale game. But I knew the game was almost over and this one part was all I was getting, which sucks. Fuck all the bullshit we did in the city the whole game. It all felt like filler. Then at the end you get a little taste of what an actual 3d Pokemon game could be like. The sewer part was alright too, but this part really made me feel the potential more because it was more like I was really playing a classic Pokemon game just in full 3d. Fuck man I hope they really make an actually good 3d Pokemon game sometime before I fucking die because I've been dreaming of shit like this since gen 1 and wanting it on n64. I think this one part is the closest I've ever felt to playing a classic Pokemon experience but in a proper 3d engine.
>>58486125I just want them to make a game that takes notes from this part and is in the traditional format with routes, more dungeons, an entire region, and npcs that spot you and battle you in the dungeons and routes instead of just at night in battle zones. And none of the pussy shit where you have to walk up and talk to them like sv. They could also make the world "open" in the way that gen 1 was, where you only really have to do the first few badges and the last badge in order, but the world opens up once you get surf and you can chart your own path. Not the modern "no boundaries" open world where you can touch every edge early and realize it's just big, because I don't really think that works as well for these games, unless they figure out how to do it better than SV because that was just boring to me. Largely due to just being able to reach all boundaries of the map and just seeing that you've explored everything and it was mostly large, pretty empty caves and mountains you just climb to get really high and stuff with some Pokemon scattered about to catch. That style isn't as engaging to me.I really think they could make a truly amazing 3d Pokemon game that people have been wanting to play if they keep going in the direction that we got here. But they have to want to actually build it instead of chasing the cheapest, safest game they can make to maximize profits. So it seems unlikely. This part of the game showed me that the potential is definitely there though.
>>58486130This part isn't some 10/10 masterpiece, but it shows what they could make instead of locking us in one city doing bullshit busywork. Unfortunately I think gen 1 on Game Boy still felt like more of an adventure than this latest game because there were more areas to explore in a world that felt more open which is what I want from a Pokemon game. Not just a 3d open area with Pokemon to catch, because just catching them isn't the only part that makes the game fun. I mean it is fun to catch the Pokemon, but the sense of adventure and distinct places to explore and classic dungeons makes it even more fun.

>>58487241>without random encounters its incredibly blandI think it could work better if the areas were larger, not necessarily talking about the size of the rooms, but maybe more rooms/areas in each dungeon. I honestly didn't think having the rooms where pokemon spawned were too bad. it's just that there's so little of it. then the way they ended the part with a mini boss battle wasn't a terrible either. that's why to me it came across as something that would be an early game taste in a larger adventure. unfortunately it's at the end of the game.>>58487261It kind of gives me hope that they have interest in doing something like I described, or they're just being spiteful and making fun of us for wanting something bigger.

And none of the pussy shit where you have to walk up and talk to them like sv.Colosseum and XD are probably the closest to what you're asking for OP. I've been waited years for Gamefreak to take the foundation of those games and add a typical Pokemon RPG adventure on top of it. Unfortunately, Gamefreak doesn't interested in making that kind of experience when they can cobble together some half-assed slop and sell it to tens of millions of people who just want their Pokemon fix.
>>58487938>Colosseum and XDyou know, I actually did play those a long time ago and thought about mentioning them. but they're kind of 3d in the same way X and Y were, where it's mostly top down with fixed camera angles (I'm not saying this is bad at all and I appreciate those games, but hear me out). so the graphics themselves are 3d, but you don't have control of the camera and it doesn't play much differently than the gb-ds games. sun and moon and sword and shield were basically the same besides swsh's garbage wild areas. it's kind of like we still haven't gotten a traditional pokemon game that's fully 3d in the same way that mario 64 and ocarina of time made the jump to 3d if you know what I mean.
>>58487997Mario 64 wasn't really a traditional Mario game either. It wasn't until 3D Land that the traditional formula went 3D.
>>58487997basically this one area of the game made me feel like I was finally playing a game boy pokemon RPG that was 3d but only for a moment.
>>58488016that's true actually, the game doesn't even have super mushrooms or the same level format. but from what I remembered from barely playing 3d land, that also had a fixed camera angle.
In a way, some 3d games with fixed camera angles can feel like a purely graphical upgrade. Sort of like a (technical) next step up from prerendered backgrounds. Mario's a bit different because it was originally built for a pure 2d plane and really uses being 2d intentionally. With Zelda and Pokemon, the top down view always suggested more spatial depth even early on (yeah, Zelda 2 is an exception since most of it is 2d side scrolling). It's almost like classic top down RPGs always wanted that extra dimension but were limited by the hardware, and that constraint created their own style of gameplay people love. Grid based designs can absolutely be meant for 2D, the way Mario is, but you can still bring these series into 3D without losing the small things that made them special.
>>58486125Honestly Lysandre Labs felt exactly like something out of Colosseum/XD without the flood of trainers. They did a good job in placing it near the end of the game for lore reasons, too.
>>58488471>near the end of the game for lore reasonsYeah it totally makes sense why this is at the end of the game. I mean the size of it and difficulty of it would have been a great start for a larger scale Pokemon game.

>>58487938>Colosseum and XD are probably the closest to what you're asking for OP. As someone who went through Colosseum recently, there's only two dungeons and the latter is a slog.Mirror B.'s cave is pretty lengthy and entertaining, but the lab? The lab is fucking terrible. It just keeps throwing fodder and more fodder over and over again till you get tired of this sluggish battle system. Idk if DX is any better I haven't gotten to it yet.
