For 7 generations the only pure flying type was one thats made of air, while all birds are some other type primarily and flying secondarily, do you think thats a coincidence? they just dont give a shit about world building or consistency anymore. corviknight is primary flying secondary steel, which is completely unprecedented before gen 6, its a subtle detail that only real pokemon fans pick up on and goes over casuals heads and yes tornadus is an exception because its made of air so it doesnt need a different primary type. not to mention that its pre evos are PURE FLYING which is doubly unprecedented until GEN 8, so for 23 YEARS this rule went unbroken until the most soulless game in the franchise chose to completely ignore the previously established logic

It's not like all mono fire types are made of pure fire, or all mono water types are made of pure water. They only had that "rule" for flying type because they stuck normal type on the birds in gen 1 before they really had everything sorted out, and then they had to stick with it for consistency even though it didn't make sense. Until they realized it was stupid all along and they don't need to bother holding themselves to 30 year old mistakes. The REAL problem is that they are unwilling to change older Pokemon. ALL of the birds should have normal type removed from them and be mono flying.
